The Promontory is a Side Quest in Horizon Forbidden West (HZFW). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Promontory side mission.
Location: Plainsong
Quest Giver: Bree
Quest Level: Level 17
Requirement: Reach Plainsong
Reward: 4250 XP, 2 Skill Points, Utaru Protector Face Paint
Mission Info: Kalae, the newest member of the Chorus, is presumed dead after undertaking a dangerous pilgrimage to The Promontory. Her Husband seeks answers, hoping to lay his grief to rest.

- Go to the base of The Promontory
- Kill the machines
- Examine the bridge
- Examine the footprints
- Go to The Promontory
- Examine the Stone Tablet
- Investigate The Promontory
- Scan for the Dye Trail / Follow the Dye Trail
- Examine the Broken Branches /Follow the Drag Trail
- Examine the Corpses
- Kill the Stalker / Kill the Stalkers
- Grab the Killer’s Seed Pouch
- Return to Bree
- Go to Summerwind
- Find Kel / Talk to Kel
Starting Location: Plainsong
Go to the Base of The Promontory
In Plainsong talk to Bree. He asks you to find out what happened to his wife, who presumably died during a ritual at the Promontory. Her corpse was never found, only her instrument. Her body is thought to have fallen into the river. Go to the Base of The Promontory.
Kill the machines
Once there take care of the machines before continuing your investigation. Nothing spectacular, just a few weaker machines.
Examine the Bridge / Examine the Footprints
Investigate the area near the bridge where the instrument was found and scan the footprints there.
Go to The Promontory
Follow the trail under the arch and keep climbing up towards the top of the cliffs where you will find The Promontory area.
Examine the Stone Table / Investigate The Promontory
Go to the Stone Tablet and investigate it, afterward 3 purple markers will appear for you to scan. The one to the left of the Stone Tablet, the flowers, is what you are looking for.
Scan for the Dye Trail / Follow the Dye Trail
Just a few meters away you can find the beginning of a Dye Trail which you can follow with your Focus but the Trail ends very quickly.
Examine the Broken Branches /Follow the Drag Trail
Where the Dye Trail ended you can find broken branches, which are a sign for someone getting through there. You also find drag trails there, which Aloy follows.
Examine the Corpse
Aloy finds the Corpse of Bree’s wife and another one, presumably the killer.
Kill the Stalker / Kill the Stalkers
The killer, who strangled Kalae, was killed by a Stalker herself who now is after you. Once you defeat the Stalker another one will appear, so take care of both the Stalkers.
Grab the Killer’s Seed Pouch / Return to Bree
In order to identify the killer, Aloy grabs the killer’s Seed Pouch and brings it back to Bree. The killer is quickly identified as Kel’s apprentice.
Kel, however, disappeared. She went to a small settlement called Summerwind just outside Plainsong.
Go to Summerwind
Aloy heads to south to Summerwind.
Find Kel / Talk to Kel
Once there go up the structure there and find Kel. Kel had Kalae killed because she wanted people to leave their lifestyle in Plainsong and move somewhere else. Kel wanted to practice damage control before Kalae could convince others of her idea. Kel herself ate some poisonous berries to kill herself and dies just before Bree arrives.
This finishes The Promontory Side Quest in Horizon 2: Forbidden West.
