Horizon Forbidden West How to Scan the Bulwark

Scan the Bulwark is an objective of The Broken Sky main quest in Horizon Forbidden West (HZFW).

This objective can seem like it’s bugged, but it’s not. The objective marker for it is just in the wrong place and it’s misleading the player.

First you must take the lift down to the bottom of the Bulwark (or glide down using the glider). After the elevator reaches the bottom, walk straight ahead for 25-30 meters/yards until the objective “Go to the Observation Point” changes into “Scan the Bulwark”. Then turn around and face the Bulwark, which is the settlement from where you took the elevator.

Stand in the exact spot shown in the map below:

Now press to enter scan-mode. The Bulwark itself will show a yellow objective marker at the bottom of the elevator, but there’s nothing to scan in that spot (misleading waypoint). Instead, when facing the Bulwark, you must look up and to the left to see the orange outline of another object inside the Bulwark. Scan this. See the object in the image below:

This will complete the “Scan the Bulwark” objective and triggers a new objective “Find a Path up the Bulwark”. Aloy will also say a few lines of dialogue. If this doesn’t happen, you may not be looking at it from the right angle. Try to replicate it standing exactly in the location shown above and scan from there. If you’re standing too close or too far it may not register correctly. So this isn’t bugged, it’s just a case of misleading waypoints.
