In Horizon Forbidden West the Shieldwing Glider allows you to glide through the air, like a parachute. It’s needed to complete some Tallnecks and Cauldrons and generally makes traversal easier throughout the world.
How to Get Shieldwing Glider
The Shieldwing Glider is automatically unlocked after 4th Main Quest “The Embassy“. Simply advance the story and you will automatically unlock it after the 4th quest, there’s no way to miss it.
To use the Glider: jump and while in midair hold 
to open the glider. It lasts infinitely until you hit the ground. You won’t take any falling damage while using the glider.
There is also a trophy “Complete a Long Glide” for gliding 60 seconds uninterrupted, which is best done after the story once you unlocked a Flying Mount. Then you can fly really high up in the sky and glide down.
