Echo Shell is a crafting resource in Horizon Forbidden West. It is used to craft Tear and Knockdown ammunition.
Item Description: A container of compressed air used by machines to generate a powerful sonic blast.
Echo Shell Location:
- Bought from Salvage Contractor in Greenswell.
- Bought from some Hunter Merchants, for example the one in Scalding Spear.
- Dropped by machines that use sonic or compressed air attacks. For example, Skydrifter has 100% drop chance, Longleg has 100% drop chance. You can farm these repeatedly by fast-traveling between machine sites.
- Sometimes found in Resource Chests (random).

Just killed three sky drifters and no echo shells probably would update this post to just long legs

Did it a second time jumping back and forth between sites and no echo shelll they were apex skydrifters but that shouldn’t make a difference. They must not have 100% drop rate or even a 30% at the rate I’m going.. have you listed the correct flying bird let me know just did this in order to farm and it doesn’t work.

When to another skydrifer site and all had echo shells the skydrifter site below “Rebel Outpost: Shining Wastes South” will NOT drop you echo shells. Not sure why weird glitch maybe?

Apex skydrifters have a 0% chance of giving you echo shell. Regular skydrifters have a 100% chance of giving you echo shell. You can see this in the machine notebook. Push square to switch between the Apex and regular skydrifter variants. The Apex and regular longlegs both give you echo shells.

Longlegs work best to collect Echo shells, in my experience. As previously mentioned, Apex skydrifters don’t give echo shells, so they don’t work great once those start to appear. Also, if you leave the concussion sac on the long leg (the chest covering) you get four echo shell total (instead of just one). Clamberjaws and Apex Clamberjaws also give echo shells and give extra if you leave the concussion sac. They typically take me longer to defeat than long legs, however.
