Horizon Forbidden West has 3 War Totem Locations. War Totems are a type of Collectable. They aren’t needed for any trophies but they do count towards 100% game completion. They are little God of War Easter Eggs within Horizon Forbidden West. Each looks like a statue of someone from the God of War franchise. Collecting all 3 unlocks the God of War Facepaint for Aloy.
There are also clues near their locations that Aloy can pick up with her scanner, then follow a track from there to the War Totem. However, you can also head straight for the War Totem to skip the search.
None of the War Totems are missable. You can still find all of them after the story in free-roam.
This guide lists them in the same order as the in-game Collectables Menu so you can easily reference the ones you are missing.
War Totem #1: Totem of War
The first war totem is found inside a hut, resembling the hut where God of War (2018) started. It looks like a totem of Kratos.
War Totem #2: Totem of Youth
The second Totem is found on the big island in the far west of the map (San Francisco). This is unreachable until Main Quest 13: Faro’s Tomb. The totem is sitting on a small bridge. It looks like Atreus from God of War (2018).
War Totem #3: Totems of Brotherhood
The third and last totem is found in the south-east of the map, at a beach near a Glinthawk site. It’s in a hole in the sand.
Reward
As a reward you unlock the God of War facepaint for Aloy upon collecting the last War Totem. You can equip this at any Painter merchant, for example at Scalding Spear settlement.
That’s all of the War Totem Collectibles in Horizon Forbidden West.
