Hogwarts Legacy Percival Rackham’s Trial Walkthrough

February 6, 2023 by FranciRoosters 6 Comments

Percival Rackham’s Trial is the twenty-third main quest in Hogwarts Legacy. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of Percival Rackham’s Trial Main Mission.

Requirement: having completed The Map Chamber, Level 11
Reward: 260 XP, :bronze: That’s a Keeper
Quest Info: Professor Fig and I had to run off goblins we found at the tower. They clearly suspect the tower has some significance. My ability to see traces of ancient magic allowed me to discover the entrance to the first trial. I completed the trial and fended off the ancient guards protecting a Pensive memory.
The Pensive revealed a story about Isidora becoming a professor at Hogwarts and trying to use ancient magic to take away pain. From there, I returned to the Map Chamber and discovered that another Keeper’s portrait had been revealed. This one belongs to Professor Charles Rookwood. He told me to watch for swirling traces of ancient magic throughout the world. Professor Fig wants to find out what Ranrok knows.

Objectives:

  • Meet Professor Fig at the Tower
  • Investigate the Goblin Presence
  • Get Past the Goblins
  • Search the Tower
  • Find the Entrance to the First Trial
  • Enter Percival Rackham’s Trial
  • Complete Percival Rackham’s Trial
  • Learn the Trial’s Secret
  • Return to the Map Chamber
  • Speak to Fig and Professor Rackham
  • Speak with Charles Rookwood

Starting Location: Percival Rackham’s Trial

We’ve reconvened with Professor Fig and spoke to Percival Rackham once again in the Map Chamber to learn of the existence of three trials, a gateway to mastering ancient magic.

Meet Professor Fig at the Tower

Warp to Jackdaw’s Tomb floo flame in the Forbidden Forest, east of Hogsmeade. Hop on your broomstick and then fly to your destination. If needed, wait for or talk directly to Professor Fig.

Investigate the Goblin Presence

Follow Professor Fig towards the ruins and right before going up the first flight of stairs, cast Disillusionment to become invisible. This mission also unlocks Petrificus Totalus, the Petrification Charm. To use it, sneak up on an enemy undetected and then press :square: to incapacitate a weaker anomy or significantly damage a stronger one. Stealthily clear up the camp of some enemies until you’re forced into combat.

Get Past the Goblins

Eliminate all goblins and remember to use the corresponding color spells to dispel enemy shields.

Search the Tower

With the threat eliminated, explore the camp before entering the tower. Now enter and climb up the tower, looting as you go, and talk to Percival’s portrait at the top.

Find the Entrance to the First Trial

Go back downstairs and stand on the yellow waypoint to spawn an ancient magic pool. Press :square: to investigate.

Enter Percival Rackham’s Trial

Step through the portal, then hold :square: / :x1: to enter the first Trial

Complete Percival Rackham’s Trial

Sprint along the hallways and head downstairs as soon as you’re able to. Press :square: to investigate the pool of ancient magic. Near the pool is also a small chest.

Now walk through the portal that spawned and open another two chests both left and right immediately after it.

Now proceed to the next room, the one with a big empty archway. Go past it and open the two chests in the room. Now interact with yet another pool of ancient magic then proceed through the portal behind you.

Proceed to the next room and defeat the Sentinels.

Once the Sentinels are no more, check the right side of this room for a side room leading to a chest. Now return to the main room and use Accio on the platform to pull it towards you.

Navigate to the right side of the room (the one with an Accio hook on the wall) and interact with the pool of ancient magic.

If you notice, the room we were just in has changed, allowing you reach other ledges with chests. So, grab these before stepping through the portal.

Step through the portal to find another chest then step through it again. Board the platform again and use the hook behind the portal to get past it.

Continue on, defeat the Sentinels, and go down and up the stairs.

From up the stairs, pull the platform towards you to be able to interact with the pool of ancient magic that’s in mid-air.

Now drop down and cross the portal, making sure you enter it from its blue side.

Now pull the platform you were just on towards the middle of the room (halfway through the ledges with the stuck platforms), past the knelt sentinel, then climb up the stairs again and pull the platform towards you. Then use the hook on the left side of the room to reach a chest. Drop down and go through the portal again, making sure you enter it from its red side. Climb up the stairs again and use the platform to reach the other side of the room, towards the waypoint. Continue on and defeat the Sentinel and Sentry guards.

Continue down the stairs and interact with the pool of ancient magic.

Step on the platform and then pull yourself to the right side of the chasm, using the hook. Now check the right side of the portal for another hook and use it to get access to a chest.

Now drop down into the chasm to reset the area. Again, interact with the pool of ancient magic and step on the platform. This time, use the hook on the left side of the chasm, but stop halfway through, making sure you can hook the platform found on the other side of the portal.

When the platform you’re on and the one you’ve just pulled towards you are close together, jump through the portal, landing on the other side. This will make the hook near the next waypoint visible and allow you to get across.

Now continue through the hallways until you get to a large room with an arena. In the arena, defeat the Protectors, Sentinels, and Sentries, making sure to first use Expelliarmus on the Protectors to make the vulnerable to other spells. Defeating the smaller foes will spawn a bigger Pensieve Guardian. The Pensieve Guardian has two health bars and uses the same attacks over the entire fight. Take a moment to slot at least two red spells (Expelliarmus and Confringo work best), one yellow spell (Glacius works best) and Accio. Use Expelliarmus and Confringo to deal damage, with quick bursts of Basic Cast to allow the two to recharge. Use Glacius or Levioso when he spawns a yellow orb, Accio when he spawns a purple orb. Then, press the corresponding prompts to dodge and cast Protego when the prompts appear on screen. As you deal damage, the ancient magic bars will fill, allowing to use it for even extra damage and temporarily stun him. Rinse a repeat until you’ve won the fight.

Learn the Trial’s Secret

Once the fight is over, proceed to the next waypoint. Open the chest by the Pensieve and then interact with it to trigger a cutscene.

Return to the Map Chamber

Interact with the crystallized archway on the side of the room to return to the Map Chamber.

Speak to Fig and Professor Rackham

Walk to the waypoint to talk to the Keepers.

Speak with Charles Rookwood

Now interact with Charles Rookwood’s portrait and speak with him.

This finishes Percival Rackham’s Trials in Hogwarts Legacy.

Can’t progress past Investigate the Goblin Presence objective. Wiped out every goblin but nothing happens. I was so angry on Dead Space for glitches and now this one.

Same thing is happening to me. I have replayed it multiple times and it never progresses. I am simply stuck outside of the tower.

I was too, but it is not a glitch. You need to read a document in the tent. That will prompt the tower to “open up”, and you can continue.
