In Hogwarts Legacy the maximum level is 40. This guide explains the best XP farming method to level up fast. The main story alone will get you to about Level 25.
During story you must level up between quests. Most quests only give around 180 XP upon completion which is not a lot. Some collectibles also give you XP but there are limited quantities of them and they can be hard to reach or require late-game spells.
Fastest XP Farming / Leveling Method
The fastest XP farming method is to replay Battle Arenas. These can be repeated infinitely. Every enemy you defeat earns you 10-50XP towards Challenge completion. Because there are so many enemies spawning in waves, the XP earned per minute is significantly more than doing side quests. However, this stops working once you completed all Combat Challenges, but until then this will get you level-ups pretty quickly.
There are two battle arenas. The faster one to farm is North Ford Bog battle arena because it has weaker enemies that die faster. There are a lot of spiders and other low-health enemies in this arena. When you arrive at the arena, use Revelio (press D-Pad left) to highlight 20 vases around the entrance. Destroy these vases to open up the arena.
The Feldcroft arena is a bit slower but features different enemies, so once you completed all combat challenges related to enemies from North Ford Bog arena you can switch to that one. If farming one arena gets too boring you can switch it up and try the other arena or do some side quests. You need all side quests & collectibles anyway for 100% completion and to earn the platinum trophy & 1000 gamerscore, and they also count towards other challenges which give XP. But if you are in a hurry to reach the level requirement for the next main quest, then just grinding North Ford Bog battle arenas is the fastest way until all Combat Challenges are completed.
This is where you find the two battle arenas:
#1 – North Ford Bog region:
#2 – Feldcroft region:
There is also a Dark Arts Battle arena in Forbidden Forest but it’s a Pre-Order DLC so it won’t be available to all players. It’s not as effective as the North Ford Bog arena anyway so don’t worry if you don’t have access to this, just if you do you can play it to switch things up.
In the mid 20’s level-range you will get about half a level up per battle arena (if you haven’t finished the combat challenges yet). In the mid 10’s level-range you can even gain a full level up from a single run. The last few level ups are quite grindy and even after reaching 100% completion you may have some farming left to do.
Alternative Methods
Eventually, you will stop getting XP from enemies when all combat challenges have been completed.
Another great method that will also earn you lots of money is to find Collectibles. See Hogwarts Legacy Collectible Locations.
Catching beasts is also fairly quick. However, to use this method you must first finish Main Quest #28: The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom. After this you unlock the Nab-Sack which you can use the catch beasts.
Unfog the map to get Beast Dens marked by white paw-icons. Catch the beasts using the Nab-Sack and sell them at Brood and Peck in Hogsmeade for a profit (this is also the fastest way to farm money repeatedly). You get 30 XP and 120 Money per beast. The XP are rewarded right away when catching them, the money is rewarded when selling them. The advantage of this method is that you combine money farming with XP farming. The downside is that this stops working when the challenge for catching beasts has been completed. Also see All Beast Den Locations.
Go for Beast Dens near fast travel points. Use Revelio to mark all beasts which makes them easier to see. After clearing all quick Beast Dens, fast travel to the other end of the map and skip time 3x in the row (open map and click “Wait” in bottom right – on consoles it’s R3 / Right Stick). This will respawn all beasts. In some cases you may need to skip time more often but skipping 3 times is usually enough to respawn everything.
Most beast dens have 3-4 beast (90-120 XP) and a few have even 6 or more beasts (180+ XP). After you unlocked the flying broom and activated all Floo Flame fast travel points in the open world, you can get around very quickly.
Eventually you will have completed the challenge for rescuing beasts too. Then your best bet is to focus on other tasks that count towards challenges. Once you completed all tiers for a challenge you stop getting XP for the associated tasks. In other words: finish all Challenges and you will get to Level 40.
