Hogwarts Legacy Charles Rookwood’s Trial Walkthrough

February 6, 2023 by FranciRoosters Leave a Comment

Charles Rookwood’s Trial is the thirty-fourth main quest in Hogwarts Legacy. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of Charles Rookwood’s Trial Main Mission.

Requirement: having completed Back On the Path
Reward: 260 XP, Professor Howin’s Assignment
Quest Info: I met Professor Fig at Rookwood Castle. It was crawling with Victor Rookwood’s lot and Ranrok’s Loyalists. Once Fig and I made our way inside, we discovered that the Loyalists had broken into some sort of repository and let something out. This was alarming to Charles Rookwood. Ultimately, I completed the trial and viewed Charles Rookwood’s Pensive memory. Upon returning to the Map Chamber, the Keepers introduced me to former headmistress, Niamh Fitzgerald. I am to proceed with her trial as soon as she’s sure that I can reach it.

Objectives:

  • Meet Fig at Rookwood Castle
  • Speak with Professor Fig
  • Enter Rookwood Castle
  • Find Charles Rookwood’s Portrait
  • Connect with Ancient Magic
  • Enter Charles Rookwood’s Trial
  • Complete Charles Rookwood’s Trial
  • Continue Exploring Charles Rookwood’s Trial
  • Exit Charles Rookwood’s Trial
  • Speak to Percival
  • Speak with Professor Fig

Starting Location: Charles Rookwood’s Trial

We’ve reconvened with Professor Fig inside the Map Chamber and Rookwood instructed us to head to Rookwood Castle for the second trial.

Meet Fig at Rookwood Castle

Warp to Rookwood Castle floo flame and meet with Fig at the quest marker.

Speak with Professor Fig

Now head over to him to talk to him

Enter Rookwood Castle

Proceed to the next quest marker at the back of the castle and you’ll be ambushed by some goblin Loyalists. Then, use Wingardium Leviosa on the nearby crate to place it near the scratched wall and climb inside for a cinematic.

After the cinematic, clear the area of enemies and loot it, including the two chests containing traits. Now go up the ramparts and enter the castle and step on the scaffolding to automatically drop down.

In this room, step on the platform in the middle, then cast Basic Cast in quick succession at the three highlighted rune switches found on both sides of the room to open the door and continue on.

Find Charles Rookwood’s Portrait

Proceed through the underground area, looting as you, and you’ll eventually reach Rookwood’s portrait.

Connect with Ancient Magic

Investigate the pool of ancient magic in the room to reveal a portal.

Enter Charles Rookwood’s Trial

Proceed through the portal and interact with the door to begin the second trial.

Complete Charles Rookwood’s Trial

Go through the hall and head upstairs to interact with another pool of ancient magic.

Now go back down and stand in front of the portal from its blue side and cast Wingardium Leviosa at the chest on the left to be able to access it.

Then, while still facing the portal from its blue side, cast Wingardium Leviosa on the silhouette pillar on the right and place it halfway through where the pool of ancient magic was and the opposite ledge, so basically in front of the archway.

Now face away from the portal and go to the crate you’ve just moved, but NOT through the portal. The crate should now have turned into high enough a pillar to be able to climb to the other side and move on.

Continue along the next two bridges and stand halfway through the second one. When you’re here, look to your left for a rune switch. Cast Basic Cast at it to reveal a path leading to a small chest. Now go back and proceed to the next portal by which is another pool of ancient magic.

First off, go around the portal and enter through it from its blue side to spawn a small chest. Now cast Basic Cast at the rune switch left of the pillar blocking the way to reposition the portal.

Now the pillar should have a silhouette, meaning you can Wingardium Leviosa on it. As you hold :r2: / :rt: move to either side of the portal to be able to move the pillar closer to the portal, revealing the way forward.

In the next room, a Protector and several Sentiles will await you. Dispose of them and then continue on to the next room to interact with another pool of ancient magic.

Behind the portal is a rune switch. Stand next to the portal so you can cast Basic Cast at it and this will rotate the platform with the portal. You should be able to access a small chest.

Now step through the portal towards the statue and immediately check the right side over the bridge to find a crate you can use Wingardium Leviosa on. Levitate the crate back to the rotating platform and from here operate the rune switch again.

The platform should be in the same starting position and the crate be visible. You can now proceed to the other side to continue. In the next room, follow the wisps to find the next pool of ancient magic and interact with it. Interacting with it spawns a pillar platform.

First off, climb down the stairs and access the portal area. In here are two Protectors, one immediately visible on the left side, the other one is invisible. To make it visible, you need to step through the portal.

Now step through the portal again from its blue side and cast Basic Cast at the rune switch on the wall to rotate the bridge.

Climb up where the crate is and use Depulso on it to shoot it through the portal. Then, use Wingardium Leviosa to put it back where it was and step through the portal again.

You should now be able to climb the pillar and the rotating platform. Grab the chest, shoot the rune switch again to rotate the platform and continue on. Go down the stairs, turn left and immediately left again for a small chest. Then, continue on into the next big room and interact with the pool of ancient magic in the side room with the portal.

Shoot the rune switch to rotate the portal and cast Wingradium Leviosa at the crate above when the silhouette becomes visible. Bring the crate closer to you to reveal another chest. Now continue on the main path and into the arena to defeat some enemies. Remember to step through the portal for those you can’t see yet. Clearing the enemies spawns the Pensieve Guardian for this trial, which works in the exact same way as the boss in the first trial.

Continue Exploring Charles Rookwood’s Trial

After the boss fight, proceed to next marker and interact with the Pensieve to learn more about Charles Rookwood’s memories.

Exit Charles Rookwood’s Trial

Now leave the chamber using the crystallized door and you’ll be back at the Map Chamber.

Speak to Percival

Approach Percival Rackham’s portrait and talk to him.

Speak to Professor Fig

And finally speak to Fig.

This finishes Charles Rookwood’s Trial in Hogwarts Legacy.

Next Quest: Fire and Vice
