Hogwarts Legacy has 75 Trait locations. Finding all Traits is required to complete all Collections for the Collector’s Edition trophy & achievement. They unlock special attributes that may be applied to gear once the Loom is unlocked in the Room of Requirement (after Main Quest #28: The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom).
None of the Collectibles in Hogwarts Legacy are missable. You can still find everything after the story in free-roam. Some story areas can’t be revisited but those don’t contain any collectibles. It’s best to play through the main quests first to gain access to everything, then do all assignments to unlock all spells, find all Demiguise Statues to open Level 3 locks, then do all side quests to open up all optional side areas for exploration. As you play through the game grab any collection chests you find. After all of this you should have most items already. Then you can clean up the remaining Collection Chests. Fully zoom out on the world map to see a collectible tracker for each region. In Hogwarts Castle you can select a section of the castle to see how many collection chests there are in that particular area.
In the Collection Menu you can keep track of how many Traits you found and how to obtain them. The menu has a heading for each obtaining method, e.g. some collectible types are bought from vendors, some come as challenge rewards (after completing a challenge tier click on it in challenges menu to get the reward), some are from exploration which means collection chests, some are quest rewards. DLC bonus items are not needed for any trophies & achievements.
This guide lists the items in the same order as the in-game Collection Menu. This makes it easy to compare against your in-game list what you are missing.
Potential Bug Warning: There are reports that some players end up with 74/75 Traits. This happens if a Collection Chest from a Bandit Camp doesn’t reward you with a Trait (can happen randomly). You can prevent this by reloading last autosave if a collection chest from a bandit camp doesn’t give a Trait. Pay attention that each Bandit Camp Collection Chest gives a Trait.

Exploration
The following items are rewards from Collection Chests. It is RANDOM which chest contains which item. For example, when you make a manual save in front of a Collection Chest, open it, reload save, you will get a different item each time. Every Collection Chest in the game is assigned one category of collection item – meaning it will always give either an “Appearance” or “Trait” or “Wand Handle” or “Conjuration” – but which item exactly it gives is random. For example, the same chest will always give a Trait, but it’s complete luck which Trait exactly you receive. Because they are all random no specific location data can be provided because there is no fixed location for any of these items. You will have to open ALL Collection Chests in the game to obtain all Collection Items / Exploration Items.
The Collection Chests containing Traits are specifically found in Bandit Camps! The Bandit Camps get marked when unfogging the map. The chests also show up on the minimap as white chest icons when nearby.
For all Collection Chests by reward type see Hogwarts Legacy All Collection Chest Locations.

Currently there is a bug that makes you get stuck at 74/75 Traits. One random Exploration Trait is missing. This has happened to multiple players and has also been reported multiple times.
Stanzo says
Happened to me at 73/75 I’ve went over the entire map and I didn’t miss any chest at camps
TR7 says
Yes, I’m also a victim. Need one more for Platinum. Do you think they’ll fix it eventually?
Danny says
Yep. I double checked everything and the one I’m missing is from a main quest ‘scorching 1’ they need to sort it so I can hand my field guide in ?
RooЯ says
Ya I’m stuck at 74/75
I figured it out and I’m missing Ambush 1, I assume y’all are missing the same one.
Danny says
No I’m missing scorching 1. Unmissable as it’s from a main quest but I don’t have it :/
Vinny says
I’m missing Laceration 3
tony says
im Missing disarming 3 and cant find it anywhere
Treena says
I’m missing Control lll and have scoured the map and have all the chests. So frustrating.
PhantomFear94 says
I’m all but certain this has happened to me. I have 72 items left to collect between wand handles, traits and configurations. I have all 15 butterflies and all vivariums, so it doesn’t make sense for that one to bug. Have a feeling is this one. I’ve accounted for ones I’m set to receive as challenges and I’m 3 short.
RooЯ says
Retract I found it
I had to look up all bandit camp locations and I found one hidden to the east and of Marunweem
Beez says
Wow i saw it thank you so muchhh, the east of Marinweem
PhantomFear94 says
74/75 traits is a common bug (I think I’ll be 72 or 73/75 based off what I have left). This bug has had several replicants over all systems, and they’ve been pretty prompt fixing other issues.
Kellie Warren says
OUTSTANDING Guide, so helpful! Thank you very much!
I do have one question: For the Bandit Camp Traits: Do I need to have found a LEVEL I trait first (example Cruelty I) before I can get a level II or III of the same (Cruelty) trait to drop?
PowerPyx says
No, you can get Level II / III traits before the Level I trait. It’s completely random what chest contains what. You could even make a manual save before one chest, if you don’t get a high tier reload save and open it again until you get a high tier.
Ryan says
Yeah, I am missing ancient magic 3 trait which isn’t even earnt from a chest but I have definitely done it and can apply it at a loom. Guess I’ll have to wait for a patch.
Kellie says
Thank you PowerPyx for your reply! I spent a few hours today hitting a bunch of bandit camps and your game-save-reload tip helped me to get all the Level III traits that I particularly wanted. ? Thanks again!!
PowerPyx says
Glad to hear it 🙂
davey says
Stupid question: I’ve done all bandit camps and I’m still missing 2. What can I do?
Francesco says
I’m at 74/75, all bandit camps completed. I saw a video of a bug chest that once opened it gave no reward, trying to go to that field I saw that he made me reopen the chest even though the field was full from the minimap. opening the chest again I did not receive any rewards
Nooj says
Any info on this glitch being fixed? A dev on Twitter get it sent to them? Having to 99% + 1 Trait the game for a 2nd time is out of the question lmao
ikki says
if any one finds disarming 1 let me know im stuck 74/75
