Hogwarts Legacy has 91 Appearance locations. Finding all Appearances is required to complete all Collections for the Collector’s Edition trophy & achievement. They unlock Cosmetic Alterations that can be applied in the Gear Menu by scrolling over an item and clicking the ‘Change Appearance’ button. This allows you to override the design of equipped items to have a better-looking outfit.
Important: The game constantly adds new DLC Appearances which will increase the total count when new items are released. At the time of the game’s launch it featured 89 appearances. DLC appearances do not matter for trophies & achievements, they are not needed for anything.
None of the Collectibles in Hogwarts Legacy are missable. You can still find everything after the story in free-roam. Some story areas can’t be revisited but those don’t contain any collectibles. It’s best to play through the main quests first to gain access to everything, then do all assignments to unlock all spells, find all Demiguise Statues to open Level 3 locks, then do all side quests to open up all optional side areas for exploration. As you play through the game grab any collection chests you find. After all of this you should have most items already. Then you can clean up the remaining Collection Chests. Fully zoom out on the world map to see a collectible tracker for each region. In Hogwarts Castle you can select a section of the castle to see how many collection chests there are in that particular area.
In the Collection Menu you can keep track of how many Appearances you found and how to obtain them. The menu has a heading for each obtaining method, e.g. some collectible types are bought from vendors, some come as challenge rewards (after completing a challenge tier click on it in challenges menu to get the reward), some are from exploration which means collection chests, some are quest rewards. DLC bonus items are not needed for any trophies & achievements.
This guide lists the items in the same order as the in-game Collection Menu. This makes it easy to compare against your in-game list what you are missing.

Lew says
Your guide says there are 89 appearances to collect, and yet you only list 86?
I have 88/91 on my game, the 3 I’m missing are apparently Additional Content items, so do I not need them for the collector’s edition trophy?
PowerPyx says
The 3 missing ones are DLC items which I do not have and don’t know their name.
I added them now under DLC items as “(unknown DLC item)” so that the total count comes out to 89. If anyone knows the names of those DLC items and how they are obtained please let me know.
They will frequently add more DLC items in the future. At the time of launch the total in-game count is 89 according to the Collection Menu > Appearances. DLC items aren’t needed for trophies & achievements and aren’t required for anything else. They don’t count towards the “Collector’s Edition” trophy.
Gamer James says
They are most likely from the Minding your own Business side quest, I completed this and they went missing for me.
Kurt says
Hopefully this helps with completion. I preordered the deluxe on ps5.
I have 13 additional content appearances total, 12 unlocked.
7 of the items unlocked are the dark arts items.
Beaked skull mask and house fan-atic school robe which I believe unlocked from linking wb and Harry Potter fan club account.
The last three I have unlocked are the shopkeepers coat, top hat and ensemble from the haunted hogsmeade quest (currently PlayStation exclusive).
Based off your list I’m assuming the one I’m missing is the duellists mask.
PowerPyx says
Thanks, added those 🙂
Slashdogg says
You need that House Fan-atic school
robe to get platinum?? Didnt have those accounts setup before i started…finished the game…trying to clean up collection and now i can’t get it…any ideas?
Slashdogg says
I’m dumb – in game settings – user interface options – WB Games account – Link account – got the robe
PowerPyx says
DLC items don’t count towards the Collector’s Edition trophy (this is noted many times in the article). So it doesn’t matter and it doesn’t count as an extra towards the trophy counter.
SensaiGaia1 says
It says 95/96 for me. Next to the lilac ensemble it says unknown under additional content. Anyone know what it is?
Adam says
I’m missing that one as well
Leon says
You don’t need to worry about the additional content ones since those aren’t counted towards the tracker.
PowerPyx says
If anyone remembers which quest gave “Authentic Historian’s Uniform”, please let me know.
That’s the only one I don’t have recorded.
JJK says
It’s earned by following the treasure map given by Arthur Plummly, Astronomy wing at Hogwarts
Aaron says
I’ve completed all main quests and side quests and the game says I’m missing one appearance from quests. Any idea what that could be?
Dan says
Probably the same as me. The Thief’s Coat. Or if you have that, then it is the Ashwinder Outfit. The game is obviously bugged. Trophy and platinum ruined for me.
Aaron says
Never mind, it was actually a missing appearance in additional content. I guess I don’t need that for the trophy.
Dan says
Actually, I am missing two appearances, which for some reason never popped for me. I checked your list to my list and the ones I am missing are:
Thief’s Coat – reward for completing battle arenas (which I beat and NEVER got!)
Lucky Leprechaun Overcoat – Reward from Quests challenge “Complete Side / Relationship Quests” Tier 5 (which I also completed 100% and NEVER got!)
These two appearances alone are going to cost me the trophy AND the platinum. I am really ticked off right now. The game was obviously NOT FINISHED and they should never have come out with it in this condition.
Blanchett says
I don’t seem to get the appearances from challenges to appear in the gear tab. Do you have to be at a certain point of the story?
t0xic says
After completing the challenges you have to go to the challenges tab in the field guide and click on each reward to unlock them. After doing so they should appear in your appearances collection.
Gamer James says
Although I completed the “Minding Your Own Business” quest and have the three clothing items given from this quest available to use in my gear tab, they seem to have gone missing, along with the two enemies from the collections tab. I’m wondering if this is a known bug?
Emanuele Mattana says
I miss one of these from the challenges and yet I have completed all the challenges and got everything they gave me. Don’t know what to do, this will probably prevent me from getting the platinum
willytanger says
Hi guys. I am going for the collector trophy in PS5. Got everything done except for appearances. Right now I am at 81/87. I have collected 49/49 from challenges, 27/30 from quest. 2/2 from exploration. 3/6 from additional content.
All the guide I read online said only 27 from quest. Is this a bug?
Much appreciated for any help!
Leon says
No, I counted all the ones from quests and there are 27 in total that you get from doing them.
Mick says
Please does anyone know where to find the dragon toy collection and also the dwelling collection please anyone
Q.Ravenwood says
Oddly enough I have the full shop owner attire… Yet it has disappeared from the collection overview…..
Sara Rapp says
My husband has been using his dark arts ensemble off and on this entire time and it suddenly disappeared, any ideas?
