There are 44 Lorestone Locations in Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice. Lorestones are collectiles that provide story info when activated. Finding all of them unlocks the gold trophy “Stories From the North”.
As the name suggests, they look like big stones and have a glowing glyph on them. Use your focus (press R2) to activate them.
There is a collectible tracker on the Lorestones themselves. You will notice different looking glyphs and a few dots between them. Red glyphs are missing ones and white are collected ones. The dots stand for the different chapters / areas. Each unique area or story part is divided by a dot. Meaning if there are 6 glyphs between two dots then the chapter has 6 collectible locations.
*The lorestone collectibles are missable if you progress too far! There is no free roam after the story and no chapter select! For this reason it is recommended that you get them in chronological order and make a manual save game backup at the start of each chapter (in case you miss one). The amount of lorestones collected does carry over to the second playthrough but the runes on the lorestones will change. To avoid any tracking issues it is highly recommended you collect them all again. If you go for just the missing lorestone there have been reports of it not counting (because it shows a different rune than it did on first playthrough). They are all on your path anyway, so play it safe and collect them all again, otherwise you could miss the trophy.
Lorestones Video Guide
Chapter 1 – Prologue (4 Lorestones):
#1 – The first Lorestone is located at the very start of the game, after getting out of the boat (slightly to the right).
#2 – At the coast, after walking under the bridge and before going upstairs. You’ll run straight into it.
#3 – After the first puzzle door (must find a sign in the surroundings) you must balance over a wooden beam. On the other end of the beam is a lorestone collectible.
#4 – Next lorestone is located at the gate, after the first enemy encounter.
Chapter 2 – Illusion Trial (5 Lorestones):
When reaching the gates (after first enemy encounter) you can make a choice whether to step through the left or right gate. It’s recommended that you take the left path first!
#5 – Illusion Trial (left gate): immediately after opening the illusion trial gate walk up the hill and check the right side of the ruins. Do note that the lorestones in this chapter look slightly different.
#6 – Illusion Trial (left gate): This is one of the trickiest locations to find! A bit later into this chapter, after an enemy encounter, you will come to an area with a big locked gate. Use the illusion gate on the left side to open up a new path. Now you encounter some spooky raven figures. Keep walking until you reach the third illusion gate in this area, just in front of old castle ruins. Step through the illusion gate and the wall of the castle will disappear, revealing a path for you to get into the castle. Open up the two locked doors inside the castle. Backtrack to the illusion gate you just used and step through it again to repair the castle walls. Because the walls are now repaired the only way back inside is through the door I told you to unlock. Go upstairs in the castle and walk over the wooden beam at the top to reach the lorestone location. This only works if you have the door unlocked and the castle wall repaired.
#7 – Illusion Trial (left gate): After the second enemy encounter of this chapter it will be straight in front of you. In plain sight, you’ll walk straight into it.
#8 – Illusion Trial (left gate): Immediately in the area after the last lorestone location, investigate the far right corner.
#9 – Illusion Trial (left gate): After scanning the big red mark on the locked gate (story-related), turn around and use the illusion gate to repair a broken bridge (the one in the middle of the area. There are 3 illusion gates but you’ll want to go to the middle one). Now you reach a drawbridge that you can interact with. Go over the drawbridge and step through the next illusion gate on the other side, which removes the castle walls in front of you. With the wall removed you can step inside the castle and crawl into a cave that has the final lorestone of this chapter.
Chapter 3 – Fire Trial (5 Lorestones)
After beating the Valravn boss you will want to backtrack to the beginning. This time, step through the yellow gate on the right side.
#10 – Fire trial (right gate): Take the right path immediately after opening the initial fire trial gate. Go through the water and it’ll be in a cave in plain sight.
#11 – Fire trial (right gate): After the second fight of this trial and after escaping the burning area. Now looking at the bridge with the burning pyre in the distance, turn left and walk down the path. Turn left again to see the stone.
#12 – Fire trial (right gate): Same area as the last Lorestone. After passing underneath the bridge, this stone will be located in the burned down forest close by. At the back of this area.
#13 – Fire trial (right gate): After escaping the second burning area you reach two houses. This lorestone is located inside the destroyed house on the right side.
#14 – Fire trial (right gate): In the next area, after going through the fire again, you come to another 2 houses. This stone is behind the second house. You have to go through an open door in the back of the house. It’s the area where you have to find a total of 3 symbols for one of the puzzle doors.
Chapter 4 – Fortress (2 Lorestones)
#15 – After the fight in the fortress. Before the 3-symbol puzzle door, turn right. You’ll have to walk past this lorestone to progress in the game, it’s in plain sight and basically impossible to miss.
#16 – Same area as the last lorestone. After collecting the third symbol required to open the door, climb down the ladder on the upper floor. There’s a lorestone location next to an unlockable door (do not open the 3-symbol puzzle door yet).
Chapter 5 – Beach (6 Lorestones)
#17 – At the end of the beach area, where another symbol door is. Right next to the shore on the left, in plain sight.
#18 – This one will be right in front of you when you make your way up to the symbol door by the beach.
#19 – Continue walking alongside the shore. This one will be a bit further down the shore, past a stranded ship.
#20 – Amongst all the ships wrecks at the end of the beach. Turn right when entering the wreckage area.
#21 – In the area with the tree. Go around the left side of the tree to find this one by the shore.
#22 – In the area with the tree (same as before). Just keep walking along the shoreline and you’ll find it behind the tree.
Chapter 6 – Labyrinth Shard Challenge (4 Lorestones)
After interacting with the tree, four challenge portals will open up. You must play all of them anyway, but it’s recommended to do them in the order listed here.
For this portal head right when facing the blue glowing part of the tree (the one closest to the tree).
#23 – After taking the shard challenge portal, turn left and head for the end of the beach. It’ll be between two big rocks.
#24 – Inside the maze. Left, left and left again (almost a straight line) at the end of a corridor.
#25 – Inside the maze: Left, right and left. The roof has some holes here and this corridor is partially lit.
#26 – From the last Lorestone, turn slightly right towards a dark tunnel. Now go right, right, left, right. Here in a side room you’ll find the last collectible of this challenge.
Chapter 7 – Tower Shard Challenge (6 Lorestones)
#27 – Cross the bridge in the past and go up the stairs. It will be a round stone, in front of the Viking fortress from earlier.
#28 – Inside the Viking fortress next to the dining table. You have to be in the past for this one. Pretty hard to miss.
#29 – Inside the Viking Fortress at the bottom of the stairs in front of the broken wall. You have to be in the present for this one. Also pretty hard to miss.
#30 – On the 2nd floor of the Viking fortress. Has to be accessed in the present as well. Yet again very hard to miss.
#31 – On the 3rd floor of the Viking fortress. Turn right before going through the door. Has to be accessed in the past.
#32 – On the 3rd floor in the past. You have to lower the second bridge to reach this one. It’s right outside on the balcony.
Chapter 8 – Swamp Shard Challenge (2 Lorestones)
#33 – At the end of the first swamp area, where you have to fix the bridge. It’s behind one of the illusion gates by a watch tower.
#34 – After repairing the bridge, in the house with the 3-symbol glyph lock. When facing the glyph lock, turn around and you’ll see this lorestone in the back of the house. Do NOT scan the glyphs on the door not! If you do, it will teleport you to a different area and the collectible will be missed.
Chapter 9 – Blindness Shard Challenge (0 Lorestones)
Nothing to be found here.
Chapter 10 – Helheim (6 Lorestones)
#35 – Make your way over to the mountain once you have retrieved the sword. The next stone will be on top of the stairs, right after entering the mountain (Helheim).
#36 – Down in the caves by the reflection symbol. In the largest cave on the right. Turn right when standing in a beam of light. Hard to see in the dark.
#37 – After coming out of the caves, go up the stairs but DO NOT open the locked door just yet. To the left of the door is a dark hole with a climbable ledge. Climb up the ledge and the lorestone will be straight in front of you (in the dark, hard to see).
#38 – The next lorestone location is way after the 3-symbol door (10-15 minutes later). After opening the next sealed 1-symbol door you’ll walk under a waterfall which extinguishes your torch. Immediately after that you must light your torch again and walk over a wooden beam. On the other side, go right and you’ll see the stone next to some crucified corpses.
#39 – Same area as before, but now follow the objective and down the path on the left. You’ll see another sealed 1-symbol door in front of you with a glowing red “M”. To the left of this door is the lorestone.
#40 – In the tunnel right after the aforementioned symbol door. Hard to miss.
Chapter 11 – After Fenrir Boss (4 Lorestones)
#41 – After defeating Fenrir go up the stairs and climb the ladder on the left wall. Once you’re up there, hug the right wall and you’ll come to a room with a spiral staircase. At the bottom of the stairs is a lorestone.
#42 – After a quick cutscene you’ll be facing a huge wooden bridge. Turn around to find a lorestone behind you.
#43 – Stand on the little balcony and zoom in on the wooden bridge to repair it (press R2). Then stand, on the bridge section that you just repaired. Look for some glass shards in the air and line them up with the correct wall. This triggers an illusion and makes the wall disappear. Go to the now open wall and you’ll reach old prison cells downstairs. The stone is in the prison cell.
#44 – On top of the spiral staircase just after the area with the prison cells (before fully repairing the big wooden bridge).
That’s all of the 44 Hellblade Lorestone Locations! If you got them all you should now have earned the “Stories From the North” gold trophy, congratulations!

PowerPyx says
If anything is unclear perhaps the video from the start of the guide can help 🙂
The labyrinth is a tricky one to follow in form of text.

I found d the one where you said slightly right then right quite easily, thanks for the help PowePyx. As of writing this, I have 10 lorestones left to find. Keep up the great guides.

So going back through my second time (this time on hard) all the runes were already lit up, normal still told the story… But that last one (#44 at the top of the spiral stairs in the end) was different. It wasn’t lit up and it wasn’t on the wheel and didnt play/trigger anything. Easiest way to describe how it looked is a backwards 3.
Helena says
That happened to me too the rune was a slanted f though

‘After beating the Valravn boss you will want to backtrack to the beginning’
On the way to #8 you drop down and you can’t get back up to where #7 was so you can’t backtrack that way.

Thanks for the guide! Just got the trophy, what a amazing game.
Annie says
Thank you so much for posting this! I missed a few lorestones on my first play through so this made it easy to grab the ones I needed the second time around.
Oval says
Got my Platinum trophy thanks to this guide. I had like 10 left to find on my second playthrough. Thanks for making it easy to follow.
Haze says
The “beast” you fight in Hel is Garm, not Fenrir.
BC says
That’s not what the trophy says. “Defeat Fenrir” is the description for the trophy you get.
