Guacamelee 2 has 5 Key Part Locations. They are needed to open open the golden door in the chicken illuminati headquarters, to receive the holy hen’s message and to get the good ending.
This unlocks 4 trophies:
- One down… (Complete a secret Chicken Key Challenge)
- Very Special (Open the Golden Door)
- Talk to the Hend (Receive the Holy Hen’s message)
- Legend of the Timelines (Reach the good ending, collect all keys)
There are a few steps to it:
- Get the 5 Key Pieces. They are hard platforming sections and require endgame abilities. It’s best to do them after the story in free-roam, after having collected lots of health & stamina chests and having unlocked the self-healing ability + all chicken powers from dungeons. The platforming sections for the keys are very hard and will take a lot of trial and error.
- After getting all 5 key pieces, return to the Chicken Illuminati Headquarters in ‘Prison El Corazon’.
- Use the key to open the door there.
- Now you must finish a series of chicken platforming areas.
At the end you are granted the message which is needed for the good ending. - Defeat the endboss Salvador in Templo de la Serpiente.
Luckily, it’s not missable because you can replay the endboss as often as you want. After finishing the story, it creates a checkpoint before the final boss so you can keep playing / cleaning up collectibles, find the key parts etc.
When you have everything you can replay the endboss once more to pop the trophy.
Video Guide (All Keys, Platforming Sections, Golden Door Crucible)
Cactuardo Boss (Unmissable Story Boss)
The first key part is actually unmissable, from the “Cactuardo” story boss. It’s the third story boss, you encounter him in the Infierno map (2nd visit). Jump on the walls on the side (when they don’t have spikes) and fly in a horizontal line towards Zope, the little guy sitting on Cactuardo’s head. It will knock him down and Cactuardo can now be damaged for a few seconds. Repeat a few more times. Try to get as much damage in as possible. Knocking Zope down for 3-4 times should suffice to defeat Cactuardo. He drops the key automatically after the fight, no way to miss it.
Los Manglares (Hidden Enemy Gauntlet)
In the middle section of Los Manglares (see red circle on map), there’s a hidden enemy gauntlet. It’s highly recommended you keep this one until you’ve collected most of the health & stamina chests and learned the self-healing skill “Mindful Meditation” from Chamoya skill tree. This is by far the hardest fighting part in the game. Remember you can still do it after the story in free-roam, which will be much easier. To even enter the place you need endgame abilities (e.g. clearing the first yellow block that’s in your way requires headbutt power).
The gauntlet itself is – as with all keys – a lot of trial and error. The more skills and health/stamina you have the easier it will be. At the end of it you must fight 3 Jaguars bosses at the same time. Take them out one by one, don’t focus on all 3 at the same time. Here the Mindful Meditation skill comes in handy. Run to the other corner of the arena and heal yourself, then blast the jaguars with some special moves. When only 2 are left it gets much easier to heal yourself.
Templo de Jade (South Entrance via Los Manglares)
You enter this one from the south-eastern exit of Los Manglares to Templo de Jade. There are 3 entrances to Templo de Jade, you must take the southern one (see red circle on map). This is by far the hardest platforming section. You must stay in a blue light to not get burned by lava surrounding it. The blue light is the safe spot but it moves very quickly. It’s one continuous section without checkpoints and will take a lot of trial and error. The best tip is to transform into a chicken to run faster and stay at the front of the blue light. Don’t fall behind too far. Transform to Juan when you have to use eagle hooks. For other sections the chicken works best because it runs much faster.
Tule Treetops Top (enter via door in Isla Bonita)
You enter Tule Treetops Top from Isla Bonita. It’s the house in the far west. Inside is a gatekeeper, to be “worthy” to enter you must first have learned the egg-laying power. You get it by beating the chicken dungeon in the ‘Infierno’ region (in the north-west of it, just in front of the exit to Isla Bonita). Once you have it, you must lay a few eggs to feed the hungry gatekeeper and he will let you enter the Tule Treetops.
This is a super long jumping section. Luckily though, there are big platforms at certain points in between that will stop you from falling all the way down, in case you mess up. Before you enter, go get all the chicken powers by doing the chicken dungeons (golden icons on the map). Plenty of them are needed here. At later points you must transform into a chicken midair to fly to a hook, then transform back to Juan to use the eagle hook. Other sections require double pollo shot.
Infierno
This is the easiest platforming section. All you really do is fly in a horizontal line (and sometimes downwards) to destroy some flying blobs that explode after a few seconds. There’s one checkpoint in between. The second section is much longer and harder than the first but basically the same principle. Refer to the video guide if you’re unsure about any portion of it.
Opening the Golden Door, Getting Holy Hen’s Message, Good Ending
Once you have everything, return to the chicken illuminati headquarters in “Prison El Corazón”. From the talking head (fast travel point) of this area you can take the toilet straight down to the headquarters. It’s right next to the talking stone head. In case you missed the fast travel point earlier, you can get back there through Los Manglares > Agave Field > Pueblucho.
In the chicken headquarters there’s a huge door. Now that you have all 5 key parts you can talk to the hen bishop to open the golden door. Behind it awaits another super long platforming section (and by far the hardest in the game). Refer to the video guide at the top of this page if you need help at any point.
At the end the Holy Hen gives you a message. She tells Juan to take off the mask and look forward into the future, not back into the past. Now beat the final boss Salvador in Templo de la Serpiente to get the good ending. Juan now remembers to take off the mask. In this ending Juan finds back to his family instantly and doesn’t miss his kids growing up. In the bad ending he keeps the mask and returns many years later when his kids are already grown up.
If you’ve already beaten the final boss you can beat him again as often as you want. The game creates an autosave before the final boss when you beat the story. Click continue from main menu and it will put you back before the last boss fight.
