The Light of Alfheim is the 4th story main quest in God of War (2018, PS4). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Light of Alfheim Main Quest.
The Light of Alfheim triggers automatically after completing A Realm Beyond.
Find a Way to the Light
Travel down the bridge until you encounter some large pink tentacle-like vines. There will be a glowing orb in the middle of the vine. Throw the axe through the orb to destroy the vines, and clear your path. Continue down the path, destroying the vines as you go. You will also run into dark elves for the first time. They can be irritating with their fast attacks and ability to fly. The easiest method of dealing with them is to use Atreus’s bow shots to stun them and use a stun finisher using the R3 button. Deal with dark elves, destroy vines, and continue to follow the path until you reach Sindri’s shop on the beach. Look to your left to find a boat that is wrapped in tentacle vines that you must destroy to continue.
Free the Boat
Circle around the tree to the left so that you can line up all three glowing orbs in a row, then throw your axe through all three at once. If you miss and don’t get all three, the orbs will regenerate and you will have to try again. If you hit all three, the boat will be freed. Interact with it to push it down the beach and into the water.
Get to the Ringed Temple
Paddle the canoe down the river until you reach the Lake of Light. Pull up to the dock directly in front of you. Atreus will run to the sand bowl on the platform and find that there aren’t any runes in the area to give you a clue what to write. You’ll have to get back in the boat and look for the clue. Continue to the north-east, and dock in front of the temple. Watch a cinematic, then face off against a bunch of dark elves. To the left and right of the dock will be two large wheels to crank downwards. Each one will raise a section of the bridge. When both are raised, Atreus will comment that the shape of them together forms a rune.
Find a Way Into the Temple
Go back to the sand table and Atreus will comment that the pillars and ring that you have just raised form an elvish rune, then he will use it to activate the sand table. The pillars will spread apart to reveal a large underground area, and the platform you are standing on will start to descend into the Ringed Temple Trench. There will be a short cinematic that leads into a fight with a large number of dark elves.
Reactivate the Ringed Temple Bridge
After the dark elves are dead, follow the path to the northeast to fight a few more dark elves. On the right side of the trench will be another wheel to crank, causing the floor on both the left and right sides of the trench to be lowered. Throw your axe at the gear to the northwest to freeze the platform in place, and then go through the tunnel to the left of the gear that was revealed when the platform lowered. Once in the tunnel, recall your axe. In the next room will be another wheel to lower the platforms behind you if you want to go back. Instead continue to the east, and come out in a room with more tentacle vines to destroy. Again, line up all of the glowing orbs then throw your axe through all of them to clear your path forward. Boost Atreus up, then climb up to trigger another cinematic and another dark elf fight. You’ll automatically start the fight in Spartan Rage which will remain active for the entire fight, so exploit it.
Once all the dark elves are dead, approach the right wall to get an interaction prompt which will trigger a brief cinematic followed by a quicktime event where you hammer the circle button to cause a section of the wall to fall down creating a path forward. There will be another short cinematic which will lead into another dark elf fight. This time, you’ll be back to your regular attacks so again use Atreus’s arrows to help you to easily stun the elves.
Follow the waypoint to the north and go through the door into another circular room, then through another door to the east. Drop down to the bridge below you, and kill some tentacle vines to cause the light bridges to reappear. Go across the bridge, then turn left and climb the crack in the wall under the blue crystal above you. You will again fight some dark elves, and also a Stone Ancient! These new enemies are large stone creatures that are resistant to damage. Wait until their chest opens up for their attack, then do a heavy throw with your Leviathan Axe to damage it, and immediately roll away to avoid their beam. Damaging their open chest will cause small stones to fly out. Pick them up off the ground and throw them back at the ancient to stun them (Note that you don’t have to wait for their chest to open up to use these stones, but it is still more effective to do so.) Kill dark elves to get health drops if you run low on life during the fight.
Follow the waypoint to a large tentacle vine and interact using the circle button to free the main bridge above you.
Go Back Up to the Ringed Temple Bridge
Follow the light bridge to the west, and through a door to a circular room with an elevator in the center. Use the elevator to return outdoors.
Enter the Temple
Run up the main bridge to the northeast towards the Ringed Temple. When you reach the other side of the bridge, you’ll see that the door ahead of you is sealed.
Find Another Way Into the Temple
Follow the path to the right of the sealed door. The path will take you down some stairs to Sindri’s shop. To the left of the shop, next to the stairs will be a small rough tunnel leading into the temple. Drop down to the path below, and fight a huge number of dark elves. Follow the waypoint, killing dark elves as you go, until you eventually reach a series of gaps to jump across. Then turn left and climb up to a ledge above you, and jump across a gap to a handhold on a wall. Shimmy to the right, following the handholds through a circular gap in the wall to the right. Continue right across the wall until the wall turns to the right, then climb up to the top of the wall and fight more dark elves.
Find a Way Into the Hive
After all the dark elves are dead, throw your axe at the red glowing area on the wall to cause a toothlike cage to retract, revealing a red fleshy tentacle beneath. Interact with it to cause a new light bridge to appear. Go across the bridge, and follow the path to the left, killing some nightmares. Eventually the path will lead you back to another platform with dark elves and another toothlike structure. Kill the elves, and again destroy the large tentacle to cause yet another light bridge to appear. Go across the bridge and continue to follow the path to the left, which will lead to a ramp upwards.
Break Into the Hive
At the top are three groups of three tentacles each that you can line up and destroy with an axe throw. Once all three sets are destroyed the path into the Hive will be opened.
Investigate the Hive
Go through the newly revealed tunnel into the Hive. Follow the waypoint to a crack in the wall to climb up, then follow the path through a tunnel until you reach the Light of Alfheim.
Destroy the Hive and Claim the Light
Follow the path upwards to the left. At the top will be another tooth/tentacle combo that you will have to destroy. This time, instead of a bridge, it will cause the Hive to start to collapse. Drop to the bridge below and trigger a cinematic that leads to a large dark elf fight. Follow the path, killing elves as you go. Try to not get hung up on the endless waves of elves, and keep pressing forwards. Luckily these dark elves are very weak, allowing you to power through them easily. At the end of the path, destroy another tentacle and it will trigger a cinematic. You will land on a platform right next to the Light of Alfheim. There will be a long cinematic, which leads to a dreamlike sequence. There is only one path through the dream, and the only thing you can do is move forwards.
Eventually you will return to the platform, bringing with you the Light of Alfheim. The cinematic will show you apply the light to Atreus’s bow, allowing you to create light bridges by firing light arrows at the giant blue crystals attached to walls. Immediately after the cinematic, shoot a light arrow at the blue crystal across from you to create a light bridge forwards.
Find a Way Out of the Temple
Travel over the light bridge and follow the path forwards, dropping down to the platforms below. You’ll find yourself on a semi-circular platform with a large blue crystal lying on the ground, and two very obvious sockets for you to pick it up and plug it in. Plug the crystal into the socket that is on the edge of the platform and have Atreus shoot it with light arrows to create another bridge. Climb up and go over the light bridge, then follow the platform to the right. Have Atreus shoot the two crystals across the gap, creating bridges. Go across the bridge to the left, follow the platform across the gap to the right, then come back across the second bridge. When you are halfway across, turn around and look up and to the southwest. There are three tentacle orbs to line up, and kill with one axe throw. This will free up a crystal above you, which Atreus should now activate. Destroy the remaining tentacle orb on the northern wall to reveal a crack that you can climb up to the upper level. At the top, fight another wave of dark elves.
Go over the newly created light bridge to the south, and climb the stairs at the end of the path. At the top of the stairs will be a force field blocking an archway. Look up at the top of the archway, and you’ll see a blue crystal hanging above the door. Throw your axe at the circular wooden target at its center to cause the force field to drop, and the crystal to fall to the ground. Pick the crystal up, and carry it to the top of the stairs. and plug it into the socket there. Have Atreus create a light bridge, then climb the platforms to the right of the crystal to reach the platform above it. In the middle of the light bridge, face south and line up the three tentacle orbs and kill them with an axe throw. Go back down to the crystal, pick it up, and place it in the socket that was behind the tentacles on the south wall. Again have Atreus create a bridge. On the other side of the wall north of the crystal, there will be a circular tunnel above head height that you can boost Atreus into. He’ll run into the tunnel, across the bridge, and reach a sand table above and to the left of the large blue door, which he will use to activate it. Opening the door will trigger a cinematic of the light elves streaming into the temple.
Return to the Boat
Go down the bridge, and turn to the right to return to the elevator.
Use the Sand Bowl Lift
Take it down into the trench, then follow the checkpoint all the way back to the elevator with the sand table. Attempting to use it, will trigger a boss fight against the Dark Elf King, Svartáljǫfurr! He has a number of dangerous attacks, some which cause darkness reducing visibility significantly. He will also fire bolts of energy from his spear, which will hit the floor then build up and explode. Finally, he’ll also charge you and try to impale you on his spear if you don’t roll out to the sides. Once he is dead, have Atreus use the sand table to activate the elevator.
Return to Tyr’s Temple
At the top, get back in your canoe and paddle back to the temple.
Realm Travel Back to Midgard
