Spirit of Rebellion is a Favor (Side Quest) for Durlin in God of War Ragnarok. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Spirit of Rebellion Side Quest. For an overview of all quests in the game see God of War Ragnarok All Favors.
Requirement: Acquired the Draupnir Spear (complete Main Mission 10: Forging Destiny)
Reward: 3000 Kratos XP, 750 Freya XP, 30 Whispering Slab, Mountain Splitter, Rebel Leader 
Objectives:
- Retrieve the hammer
- Return to Durlin
Starting Location: Spirit of Rebellion
At the end of Main Mission 10: Forging Destiny, Spirit of Rebellion can be started by talking to Durlin on Nidavellir Beach in Svartalfheim after acquiring the Draupnir Spear and completing Forging Destiny. He will stand next to the Mystic Gate.
Alternatively, if you did not accept the quest on your way out of Mission 10, you can still find Durlin after the story in a house of Nidavellir town to accept his favor:
Retrieve the hammer
Head to Dragon Beach in the Bay of Bounty.
Around the beach will be 3 geysers you can freeze that have totems behind them, which can be destroyed to open the Nornir Chest.
There is also a Rune Read next to the chest. Climb the chain and head up to the bridge.
Crawl under the fallen pillar to find an Yggdrasil Rift.
Continue forward to the rune slate and use it, then read the runic word to move the hammer.
Open the chest behind it for the hammer.
Return to Durlin
Head to the tavern in Nidavellir to speak to Durlin.
This finishes Spirit of Rebellion Side Quest in God of War Ragnarok.

He’s not there…what to do? Cannot return the hammer.
At what point in the story are you (what main quest in Paths menu)?
Maybe he isn’t available at certain parts of the story. I haven’t extensively tested this after each quest but some other things get temporarily locked at certain points of the story. After the story he should definitely be available at the tavern (near the mystic gateway). I’d say keep advancing the story and check back later, or fast travel to another realm and come back to see if he loaded in.
It is definitely glitched.. cannot complete this quest because the NPC disapeared, I’ve already finished main story and most side quests.
I’ve found the issue, I started the vikings funeral quest so that’s why Durlin was actually at the beach and not in its home. Need to finish that quest first and then he will be back
