God of War Ragnarok Path of Destruction Favor Walkthrough

November 8, 2022 by Archavia Leave a Comment

Path of Destruction is a Favor (Side Quest) for Kratos in God of War Ragnarok. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Path of Destruction Side Quest. For an overview of all quests in the game see God of War Ragnarok All Favors.

Requirement: Flood the Crater (Complete Favor: Return of the River)
Reward: 4500 Kratos XP, 1125 Atreus XP, Dragon Tooth, Dragon Claw

Objectives:

  • Follow the footprints
  • Lure the drake
  • Slay the Slag Horn

Starting Location: Path of Destruction

Path of Destruction is started automatically after crawling through a gap in the wall where the large footprints lead in The Jungle in Vanaheim, after completing Favor: Return of the River. You will need to defeat the Ogres and cross the bridge to reach this area.

Follow the footprints

Drop down the hole in the middle of the area.

Lure the drake

Raise the walls by throwing your axe at the rotating object, then freezing the gear before it goes back down.

On the wall next to this will be a Rune Read. There will also be a Legendary Chest containing an Yggdrasil Jewel.

Before you open the gate, raise the wall again and freeze it in place.

Go outside and lure the Gulons inside to the platform, then release your Axe to trap them inside.

Now pull the chain to raise the Gulons up to the drake’s lair to lure it out.

Slay the Slag Horn

Head outside and return to the drake’s lair by following the path around to the left. Crawl through to face Slag Horn.

Slag Horn will play identically to the other drakes, Gravel Belly and Crag Jaw, however he will be noticeably stronger in terms of health. Slag Horn will deal a lot of damage with its attacks, but a lot of the attacks have a lot of build up. It will do regular swipes, unblockable bites and block break tail whips, all of which can be rather easily dodged due to the build up time (however the tail swipe has an especially long build up, so don’t dodge too early or you’ll get hit).

It will also do a charge attack, which can be blocked, and if parried will knock the drake over and allow you to get in some serious damage. The most dangerous attack it will do however is an unblockable slam attack, which will launch debris out in front of it, so you will need to dodge to the side to avoid this. When at range it will also launch barbs from it tail, which can be dodged pretty easily.

Once it reaches half health, it will start doubling up certain attacks, namely the swipes which will lead into a block break swipe, and more notably the ground slam attack will happen twice (even three times once it gets down to the final health bar). As the most dangerous attacks happen when right in front of the drake, it is best to try stick to the side and attack the legs, making it easier to dodge these attacks. It’s quite manageable to get a lot of hits in without taking any damage, which makes Permafrost/Immolation/Maelstrom and their upgrades very powerful against the drake, as these will let you deal more damage if you can get successive hits in without damage.

This finishes Path of Destruction Quest in God of War Ragnarok.
