God of War Ragnarok contains 53 Legendary Chests. This guide shows all their locations and solutions how to open them. They are the golden chests and always contain a useful reward.
For trophy purposes you only need the ones that contain Jewels of Yggdrasil to fully repair the Amulet. But if you want 100% completion you must open all of them. This guide also lists the reward for each Legendary Chest so you can quickly locate the most interesting ones that have items you want.
None of the Legendary Chests tied to 100% completion are missable. You can still get all of them after the story. The ones in Atreus’ story sections are technically missable because you can’t go back to them but they don’t count as collectibles for 100% completion, and if you missed them the rewards are available for purchase in the blacksmith shop.
For more Collectible Categories see » God of War Ragnarok Collectible Guide. The Legendary Chests are also included in the guides by region.
Note: Legendary Chests from Atreus’ story sections don’t as collectibles and aren’t needed for 100% completion. You can’t go back to those after the story but any items they contain can then be bought from the blacksmith shop, so nothing is missable.

At the top of Nidavellir town, there is some gas/wind coming out of a wooden pillar. You need the Spear weapon for this one (unlocked during Main Mission 10: Forging Destiny). Throw the spear at the wind in the pillar, this creates a path to climb up. After climbing up you find a Legendary Chest above.
#6 – Myrkyr Tunnels (Fog of Fimbulwinter – Heavy Runic Attack)
You go to Myrkr Tunnels later in the story. To get back here after the story, fast travel to the Mystic Gateway Svartalfheim > Nidavellir Beach (automatic story unlock). Burn the vines by shooting purple arrows at them and use your chaos blades to ignite them. Behind the vines is the legendary chest.

The legendary chest is behind the locked gate, if you’re here after the story you can simply climb up the left wall to get behind the gate. Go through this region, killing all enemies along the way to complete the favor. After passing through the region you’ll end up on the other side of Cliffside Ruins, where you must lower a chain bridge. Next to the bridge is a Legendary Chest on a lower platform. However, it’s blocked by golden ore and you can’t jump down. To blow up the ore, place 3 purple runic arrows from the wall to the floor.
