Starting Location: Bonds of Trust
Capture Aponi
Head up the path leading north from Kamaria’s Ranch, then take the second path to the left. This will lead you to a bunch of chocobos standing around mine carts. Sneak towards them. It will start the “Wrangle a Chocobo” World Intel.
Wrangle a Chocobo
- Wait for the first chocobo to turn to the left, hide behind the cart. When it turns back to the right, push the cart forward on the rails until you reach the second chocobo.
- At the second chocobo, push the cart forward (from the direction you came), until the frontend of your movable carts stops where the metal box on the left ends. Basically, your movable cart will add as an “extension” to the metal box on the left to block the chocobo’s sight. The next part is a bit tricky: you must go to the backend of your movable cart, when the bird is looking to the left you must grab the cart with and pull it to the very end of the rails. Sometimes the bird will spot you, especially if you didn’t push your cart far enough past the metal box. If it spots you, hide behind your cart immediately. This way you can pull it little by little, always pulling for just a moment and then hiding behind your cart again until the bird stops being alerted.
- When you pushed the cart to the very end, use the lever on the left to change the tracks. Then push the cart forward to the third chocobo. Let it turn to the left in your direction, when it turns around to the right you must quickly push the cart forward. Stop pushing when you find rocks on the left.
- Pick up the throwable rocks on the left. Throw them behind the fourth chocobo ( + ). When the chocobo turns around to investigate, quickly use the lever on the left to change the tracks, then go back to your cart and push it forward.
- Push your cart to the fifth chocobo. Throw another stone behind this chocobo to distract it, then push the cart all the way to the end where the blue chocobo waits.
- While hidden behind your cart, throw another stone behind the blue chocobo. When the chocobo turns around to investigate, quickly rush towards it and wrangle it with . A short cutscene will play.
Head to Training Course No.1
From Kamaria’s Ranch, head 240m south-west to the quest marker near to Cosmo Canyon Airstrip. Speak to Shani.
Complete Training Course No.1
Climb on Aponi and press to interact with the chocobo pole. You now have to play the Glide de Chocobo minigame, which requires you to earn points by passing through as many rings as possible before your talons touch the ground. This training course is fairly simple and acts as a tutorial, but essentially hold to glide and use the left stick to control the bird and use current generators’ updrafts to stay afloat.
You only need to achieve Rank 1 (1800 points) to complete this section of the side quest, but you need to hit every gate and achieve Rank III (3600 points) to earn the Crescent Sickle weapon for Yuffie, so bear that in mind.
Head to Training Course No.2
Training Course No.2 is just to the north-east of Kamaria’s Ranch.
Complete Training Course No.2
Speak to Shani again and complete the second course. You need 3600 points for Rank I, although the best prize is for Rank III (7200 points). This course adds moving rings and gets much trickier. You need to use descend to dive bomb in order to gain momentum to ascend in order to hit all the rings.
Head to Training Course No.3
Training Course No.3 is located back at Kamaria’s Ranch.
Complete Training Course No.3
Speak to Shani again and complete the third course. You need 4800 points for Rank I, although the best prize is for Rank III (9600 points). This course adds much faster moving rings and more ascending/descending is needed. With a bit of practice, you should be able to finish it although it will take practice to achieve Rank III, which you need to do in all three courses for a reward for Johnny’s Hotel.
After completing the third course, dialogue will take place and the quest will automatically conclude.
