Objectives:
- Explore Stillwind
- Purse the goblin leader
- Slay the morbol
- Make for Phoenix Gate
Explore Stillwind
After entering Stillwind, this will be the first time you are in a “dungeon” area. These areas in the game are ones you enter once for the story, progressing to the end defeating enemies. There is sometimes some minor exploration you can do for extra items, but typically they only contain consumables like this area. Later areas have extra accessories, but no items that you can miss for trophies. Areas after this one can be replayed through a mechanic that is introduced a bit later on.
Follow the linear path ahead to an open area. In Stillwind you can also see where to progress by a set of light butterflies that will be hovering over top of the path to progress. In this spot go underneath the log to the first combat area.
You’ll have your first group of Goblins to deal with now, and have the Magic Burst mechanic explained to you. When fighting groups of enemies you can lock on using , though when more than one enemy is near is can be helpful not to lock on and just let the targeting snap to the nearest enemy.
After they’re defeated, squeeze through the hole into the next area. If you move to the right side you can see a gap where you can squeeze into a house that contains a consumable. There are a few spots like this throughout Stillwind, but they only contain consumable items.
Keep following the path to the next area, where there is a much larger group of Goblins. After they’re dealt with you can smash through the boards to the next area, then up the ladder on the right side.
In the next area, you’ll run into Goblin Weavers for the first time. These magic enemies will charge up attacks, then shoot magic at you. If you attack them during the charge animation this will interrupt them and prevent the attack from occurring.
Kick down the boards nearby and continue following the path into the next area. You’ll have one more group to deal with, then you’ll have your first real encounter with a staggerable enemy, a larger Goblin called a Gigas. These enemies typically attack with slow swings that can be easily dodged or parried, so keep working on them until they stagger, they make sure to use Rising Flames on them during the stagger to maximize damage. After the first stagger they’ll likely use a named attack, which you can see called out in the middle of the screen. Staggerable enemies like this typically have a couple of named attacks, which do big damage but are more telegraphed or delivered in unique ways. Gigas uses Big Swing, where it swings the club around its head a few times, then spins in circles while tracking towards you. If you’re good with timing you can parry the attack itself, or just continually dodge the swings while backing away until it finishes.
Pursue the goblin leader
Once the Gigas is defeated you’ll be rewarded Hard Leather Armlets, make sure to open your Gear & Eikons menu and equip these in the Vambrace slot.
You can then continue through the breakable boards and chase after the goblin leader into the next area.
Slay the morbol
In the next open area you’ll have the first real boss fight against a Morbol. This enemy has a number more real attacks than the Gigas to watch out for, though it is generally just as slow. Its normal attacks are mostly large swipes which you can dodges through as long as you dodge while the tentacles are actually near you.
From the start of the fight, the first named attack to watch for is Bad Breath. The Morbol will wind up and spew green gas directly in front of itself, so you just need to move to the side to avoid it.
After the first stagger, it will burrow into the ground, then reappear and suck Clive in. It will do this twice during the fight, introducing the Cinematic Strike and Cinematic Evasion mechanics. Make note of the screen flashing Blue and Red for these instances, as in the higher difficulty New Game+ mode the button prompts don’t appear, so you need to know what to hit based on the color shown.
After these continue pressing the Morbol. During the rest of the fight it will really only have two new attacks. The first is unnamed, and it will suck in air and then spew out a large cloud of gas around it, similar to Bad Breath but just in the melee range around it. You can quickly dodge away from it once you see this windup start.
The second is a named attack, called Wild Rage. With this attack the Morbol will charge in the direction it is looking, slamming the ground. You can avoid this by just moving out of the direction it is moving, and watching out for when it turns around and charges the other way. When the attack is finished it lies face down for a short period, allowing more damage.
Make for Phoenix Gate
Once the Morbol is defeated you’ll have a scene to watch, then select Phoenix Gate on the world map to continue.
This finishes Lost in a Fog Main Quest in Final Fantasy 16 (XVI).
