In Final Fantasy XVI, Cheats come in the form of so-called “Timely Rings”. Since the gameplay relies on real-time action which is much different from previous games, the developers included “cheats” for players struggling with this. It’s mainly intended for players who get stuck on a boss but can also be used to on Final Fantasy difficulty in New Game+. This obviously makes the game easier. You can also earn all trophies while cheats are enabled!
How to Activate Cheat Rings
The cheat rings are automatically in your inventory from the start regardless of what difficulty you pick. Except for the “Ring of Timely Assistance” which unlocks in Main Quest 9: Fanning Embers.
You activate them by going to “Gear & Eikons” Menu (unlocked during Prologue) > click the Accessories in bottom left > pick one of the 5 Timely Rings:
- Ring of Timely Healing – When equipped, Clive will automatically use a potion when his HP falls below a certain point. Potions will be used before high potions.
- Ring of TImely Strikes – When equipped, complex ability combinations can be executed by simply pressing Square Button.
- Ring of Timely Evasion – When equipped, Clive will automatically evade attacks, as long as the attack can be evaded.
- Ring of Timely Focus – When equipped, time slows before an evadable enemy attack strikes Clive. No effect when equipped with the ring of timely evasion.
- Ring of Timely Assistance – When equipped, pet commands are executed automatically and Torgal’s actions will adapt to Clive’s. The RIng of Timely Assistance’s effects are included in the Ring of Timely Strikes.
The best ones by far are Ring of Timely Evasion (Autododge) and Ring of Timely Strikes (Autocombo). This trivializes the game to a point where you are just mashing the Square Button and don’t take any damage because it automatically dodges all attacks. Use this with caution because it can take the fun out of the game, it’s meant to be used for difficult bosses where you otherwise get stuck
You can tell which cheats are active by looking in the top left corner above the health bar. There are 5 icons, one for each ring. You can only equip 3 of 5 rings at any given time.
