Flight of the Fledgling is the 6th main story quest in Final Fantasy 16 (XVI). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Flight of the Fledgling main scenario chapter.
- Starting Location: Phoenix Gate
- Requirement: Complete Lost in a Fog
- Reward: None
- Quest Info: The Shields of Rosaria have marched to Phoenix Gate that the duchy’s Dominant and heir to the throne, Joshua, might hear the Words of their Ancestors, as is custom before any great battle. However, the night before the ceremony, the young prince is stirred from his slumber by the sounds of battle. The fortress is under attack, and Joshua must fight his way to his father with the aid of but a single brave Shield.
Objectives:
- Escape the stronghold
- Find the archduke
- Follow Sir Wade
- Slay the invaders
Escape the stronghold
In this main quest, you will be playing as Joshua for a short period. Follow Wade through the castle until you go through a door, and you’ll have your first enemy encounter. Joshua doesn’t have the same maneuverability as Clive, but his magic is much strong, so you can just use the magic attack to clean up enemies with Wade’s help.
Find the archduke
Keep progressing through the linear path. There will be a few more enemy encounters along the way, but you can easily clean them up with Wade by shooting them with magic whenever you enter the area.
Follow Sir Wade
After a scene, you’ll be back playing as Clive with Rodney in tow. Keep progressing through the area, and you’ll need to deal with a large group of Imperials before heading outside.
Follow Sir Wade
You’ll have another group of Imperials to deal with outside, this time with a couple of casters as well. Try to focus the casters first so you don’t have enemies shooting at you, then clean up the other soldiers. Once they’re dealt with, you’ll start the main boss fight for this chapter against Knight of the Blinding Dawn. This fight starts off with a Cinematic Evasion, so make sure to watch out for it when he jumps off the rooftop.
This enemy is an Imperial Dragoon, which is an enemy you’ll encounter a few times throughout the game, so it’s good to try and pay attention to their moveset as you’ll see it again. This enemy is generally a bit faster than the Morbol you fought prior, but the moves it pulls off are still pretty telegraphed. Most normal attacks are either large swings, thrusts, or a downward thrust after jumping. The thrust and downward thrust have somewhat short wind-ups, but can still be dodged easily by moving to the side. The big horizontal swing that deals a lot of damage has a big obvious windup, where the Knight swings his spear around himself a few times before doing a large swing, so watch for when he is standing in one place like this.
After a while, the Knight will start doing the main named attack they utilize, called Jump. The Knight will jump into the air, then slam down into a specific spot represented by a vertical beam of light. As long as you take note of when the Jump command appears at the top of the screen you can avoid both this and the later variant Double Jump by just running in a direction, as the Jump won’t occur faster than Clive’s base movement.
Otherwise keep dealing with the Knight the same as the Morbol, trying to get as much damage in on Stagger phases as you can. When the Knight is at about half health you’ll have a Cinematic Strike instance, triggering another immediate stagger if successful, after which the Knight will start doing the Double Jump attack.
After the Knight is defeated there are a few scenes, then you will be back controlling the Phoenix like you did at the very start of the game. This time the controls are a little different, as you do actually have to aim with , though there is a slight lock on represented when the reticle is a circle around the enemy so you don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to be perfect though, so just make sure to keep your aim locked on and then dodge with when the enemy Eikon flashes to charge at you.
This section is decently lengthy, and there are a couple of Cinematic Strikes to keep a watch for. Once you have defeated the Eikon of Fire there will be some more scenes to complete this chapter.
This finishes Flight of the Fledgling Main Quest in Final Fantasy 16 (XVI).
