Make for the belltower
At the start of this main quest, you are on the Twinside rooftops. To progress, follow the left side of the rooftop until you can walk on a platform to the left, allowing you to continue along the linear path to the next area.
After the scene, you’ll automatically drop down to ground level and can continue further. You’ll shortly encounter the first enemy group of the chapter. Most enemies in this first section are the Imperial Dragoon Knights and the normal things that come along with them, so nothing really to worry about.
In the second enemy wave, you’ll have to fight a Dragoon Lancer as a miniboss. These ones only use the base Jump and Double Jump attack, so shouldn’t be tough to deal with. Once they’re defeated continue through the rubble to the next area.
Continue on the path through the sewer dealing with the crabs along the way. On the other side interact with the lift to head back to street level.
Progress through the next two enemy groups, the second will include a Dragon Aevis as a second-wave miniboss. When they’re all dealt with you need to go through a gate on the left side of the area to continue.
Continue along the castle battlements until you reach a larger area where you’ll fight a second Dragoon Lancer. Deal with them and continue into the next room. Go down the stairs where the enemies were and at the bottom on the left you can open a chest containing the accessory The Favor of Earth (Raging Fists) before going through the doors into the next area.
Slay the white dragon
You now have a boss fight against the White Dragon. This one is very similar to the Akashic Dragon you fought before, using basically the same basic move set throughout the fight, so they shouldn’t be too challenging overall. The main differences are that they have a couple of different projectile attacks they can use, so watch out when they are farther away from you in the arena as they will shoot sets of tracking bolts at you.
One new named attack they have is called Heavenly Host, where they will summon a group of slow-moving orbs, followed by a volley of tracking bolts. The orbs only move in one direction, so you can avoid them by just moving to the side.
Another new named attack they will perform is Emanation, likely after the first stagger. The boss will summon a number of crystals that float around, then shoot lasers from above and at ground level for a period. The lasers can be dodged through, so that’s the best bet to avoid them. At the end of the attack the crystals converge on one spot, creating a damaging explosion that you can avoid by getting out of the circle on the ground.
Close to the end of the fight, it will likely perform Dragon Dance. Most dragons will do this, but the attack is unique to them because they just perform all of their other attacks in a row, so for this boss, you need to do things like avoid the lasers and more volleys of bolts.
Speak with Jill
After a number of scenes, you will be temporarily reunited with Goetz. You can interact with him here to upgrade your gear and purchase consumables (he’ll have items available that are an upgrade over what you currently have equipped), then speak with Jill when you are ready to continue.
Make for the heart
In the next area, you’ll be progressing through the ruins of the castle, dealing with a large number of Akashic and Thrall enemies. This whole area is very linear, so keep following the path through the groups of enemies. After you defeat the Lich miniboss in the second group of enemies, climb the next ledge and check immediately to the right for a chest that contains the accessory The Breath of Lightning (Judgment Bolt).
Keep following the path through the area, and eventually, you will encounter an Undertaker as a miniboss. These times when you encounter them as a miniboss they’ll have the same moveset as when you fought them as a main story boss, so they’re relatively simple to deal with.
Slay the necrophobe
After progressing far enough you’ll encounter the second main boss of this quest, the Necrophobe. This human-sized boss uses mostly ranged magic attacks, mostly of types you’ve seen before with a bit of a twist. Their handful of melee attacks all use an obvious-looking sword they construct from the orbs floating around them before swinging, so those attacks are generally easy to avoid.
The magic attacks they use correspond to the color the orbs turn before the attack happens, so you can use this to judge and avoid them. Red is a slow-moving orb of fire, blue is a quick moving bolt of ice, and purple they will shoot a series of three orbs at you.
After the first stagger phase they will perform Elemental Dissonance. This isn’t an attack on its own but is signaling they’re going to start performing different attacks now. They’ll start using named versions of the elemental spells which you have to avoid. Firaga they will summon a circle of fire orbs around themselves which will move a short distance out while spinning. You can avoid this by backing up out of range then moving between the gaps, or just dodge towards the boss right when the attack happens.
Blizzaga is still a single bolt, but causes damage along the entire distance in front of where the boss is aiming, so quickly move to the side when they start the attack.
They’ll keep doing these attacks now, along with a different melee attack that can juggle you if you are hit, so try to avoid this when you see them summon the sword. After the second stagger phase they’ll start charging a purple attack with the prompt “Dark energies swirl…”. This functions the same as the one when you fought the Coeurl, where lightning bolts will hit the ground around the boss, which you need to avoid while putting damage into it.
After stopping the purple attack they’ll get one more set of attacks, which are Dualcast versions of Blizzaga and Firaga. These function the same as before, but now every one of the attacks will occur twice, so you need to dodge two waves of ice bolts or two rings of fire orbs.
Keep avoiding these and putting in damage and the boss should go down shortly.
Make for the heart
After the boss is dealt with, continue following the path ahead up into the building. There will be a number of scenes, then you will be fighting Bahamut as Ifrit. This section starts with a couple Cinematic actions, first a Strike, followed by an Evasion.
After this you will be standing on solid ground and the first part of the fight starts. Bahamut spends a lot of time in the air here, so you are generally better off avoiding his ranged attacks and then just shooting charged fireballs at him. He will occasionally slam into the ground sending out a damaging wave you can jump over, but then will stick to the ground for about 10 seconds where you can quickly charge in and get at least one melee combo in.
This will happen a few times, then there will be a scene and you will learn Spitflare, which is a ranged ability performed by pressing + . As the game prompts you, you should do this when Bahamut performs Quintessence, where he summons a long line of orbs in front of you. Direct the beam to destroy all the orbs, then return to attacking Bahamut.
He will then also start performing Aura Burst, which is an area explosion around himself. Use Wildfire with to quickly dodge out of the area.
After the first stagger phase there will be a scene, then you will be playing as Phoenix like you did earlier in the game. This section is a shooter again, where you need to attack Bahamut by aiming at him and shooting with . Where you are aiming is also where Phoenix will fly, and you need to keep this in mind to avoid attacks, though you can also evade with . You should generally always hold to charge up your attack before releasing, as this shoots a more damaging beam that last a few seconds.
Bahamut will shoot blades of light at you during this section, which you can perform Precision Dodges to avoid when they turn gold just before they reach you.
Keep damaging and avoiding the attacks. When he summons sets of orbs try to destroy them quickly so that they don’t damage you. He will eventually cast Megaflare, which you can avoid by rotating around the edge of the screen while dodging.
This fight will progress through a few sections, though they are largely the same. The main new thing that occurs in the second section is he will summon sets of orbs with their own health bar. If you don’t quickly destroy these they will shoot a laser towards you until they are destroyed. Try to take them out with one charged shot.
The third section of the fight is largely the same, he will just summon more orbs that start moving around more quickly if they aren’t destroyed. In the fourth section he will immediately summon 6 orbs at once, which you need to take out as quick as possible to stop him using Gigaflare on you.
After destroying the orbs there will be a scene, and you will return to playing as Ifrit. This functions the same as the first part, though Bahamut has a couple of new attacks. The first is called Mortal Coil, where he shoots an orb that causes a damaging pillar. Later on he’ll do the same thing, but three in a row called Triple Coil that you need to avoid.
After a point, he will start performing Teraflare, and you need to quickly move into the bubble that the Phoenix is creating. After you do there will be a Cinematic Clash to avoid damage.
After this, the fight returns to normal. Bahamut will likely perform Quintessence again, which you can avoid in the same way as before by shooting Spitflare at all the orbs. Keeping damaging Bahamut, and when he has a small amount of health left there will be a Cinematic Clash to finish this portion of the fight.
After some scenes, you are now in space. There will be a Cinematic Strike immediately before the normal combat. This section is closer to the prior Ifrit combat in that you should be aggressive and try to melee Bahamut, as you are both effectively flying. The new ability Lightspeed allows you to immediately warp towards the boss with , so use this whenever you need to close the gap to them. Note that you ONLY move toward the boss with this, so you can’t use it to avoid attacks unless you are trying to move toward the boss.
Bahamut has a similar set of attacks to start. Megaflare is used a lot which is one you can avoid by warping toward him with Lightspeed. He will also regularly attack with large lasers that sweep across the area, but you can dodge through when they are near you.
He will also use Aura Burst, which you should get out of by holding and moving away, don’t hit or you’ll just warp into the damage area.
After the first stagger, there will be a scene where you need to perform a Cinematic Evasion to avoid damage.
Bahamut will now start doing a number of new named attacks which you need to watch out for. The first one, Radiance, he’ll summon a number of lasers that rotate around him. Don’t be fooled by them being on two different levels, as they’ll both hit you if you touch them, so try to follow them as they rotate and dodge through them when you need to.
He will start using Gigaflare here as well, though this one is a single beam that will rotate toward you. Avoid this by dashing away from it using Wildfire.
After the second stagger, he’ll likely use the final new named attack, Celestial Foundry. This summons a wall of lasers that will shoot toward you after a few seconds. So avoid this if you are close to the center of the area, quickly dash towards Bahamut using Lightspeed. This should put you beside the boss, on the other side of where the lasers are shooting.
Once he reaches very low health again, he’ll start performing one more Cinematic attack, and you perform a Cinematic Clash to finish the fight.
Return to the hideaway
After all the scenes are complete post boss fight, select the Hideaway to proceed.
