Final Fantasy XVI has 48 Letter Locations. Finding at least 10 Letters unlocks The Pen is Mightier trophy. The remaining letters aren’t directly needed for trophies, but some of them will start Side Quests which are important. The letters are all found at the Reading Table in Clive’s Chambers, unlocked in Main Quest 27: Cid the Outlaw. A few are read during quest objectives.
All Letters are automatic progression rewards from main story quests and side quests. By completing all quests you automatically get all letters.
If letters from side quest rewards don’t arrive right away, simply fast travel away from The Hideaway and come back and they should arrive. If not, play a few more quests and they will arrive after a while. Letters that start Side Quests will have a green icon. Always do these, you must complete all Side Quests to get enough Renown for all Patron Items.
None of the Letters are missable. They are all found after the Point of No Return which happens in Main Quest 25: The Dame. After the story you can create a “clear save” and reload this save to still free-roam and complete all relevant side content.
