Final Fantasy XVI has 22 Curiosity Locations needed to obtain the “For the Hoard” trophy. Only the 22 Curiosities displayed in Clive’s room at the Wall of Memories count for the trophy. There are many more Curiosities that don’t count, such as Orchestrion Rolls (music sheets), anything bought from merchants, and from beating bosses without taking damage. The extra Curiosities are optional and not needed for anything, so they can be ignored. The only small exception to this are the 4 Upgrade Curiosities which you do need for “With Two Ds” trophy.
This guide shows all types of Curiosities for the sake of completion. The extra Curiosities (Orange) aren’t needed for any trophies and can be skipped. Only Clive’s Chamber Curiosities (Blue) and Upgrade Curiosities (Green) are needed for trophies.
Color Coding:
- Blue Curiosity = DOES count towards “For the Hoard” trophy.
- Orange Curiosity = DOESN’T count towards “For the Hoard” trophy.
- Green Curiosity = DOES count towards “With Two Ds” trophy.
None of the trophy-related Curiosities are missable. They are all found after the Point of No Return which happens in Main Quest 25: The Dame. After the story you can create a “clear save” and reload this save to still free-roam and complete all relevant side content. Some of the optional Curiosities from beating bosses without suffering damage are semi-missable, but they aren’t needed for trophies, and there’s still Stage Replay after the Story to go back.
Most Curiosities are automatic rewards from main quest and side quests. A few optional ones come from chests, merchants, and bosses. One is received by talking to Tarja later in the game, and one is for completing all 7 Chronolith Trials. The six Signboards are also part of the Curiosities, you will get them automatically while going for all Curiosities because they count towards the 22 displayed in Clive’s chambers.

- Curiosity: The Circle of Malius – For the very last Curiosity you must complete all stages of all 7 Chronoliths (one per Eikon)! Easiest method is to equip Gotterdammerung, fully upgrade all abilities of the Eikon used in the trial, equip the autoevade & autocombo rings. This way you can easily beat all trials by just mashing and spamming the Eikon abilities.

- Chronolith #7: The Hand of Enceladus (Odin) – Location: Waloed > Vidargraes > The Badbach Conservatory – Note: easiest method is to charge up Level 5 Zanetsuken for each wave by spamming abilities and repeatedly attacking with + . Unleash the Level 5 Zanetsuken to instant-kill all enemies in each wave. Unequip the autocombo ring because it would trigger Zanetsuken prematurely.
- Chronolith #1: The Hand of Hyperion (Phoenix) – Location: Rosaria > Martha’s Rest > Greenheaves.

hopefully the shield ensign isnt needed because it can be missed i spite of what guide says i imported save from demo and shield ensign wasnt in my inventory which is after the supposed “auotomatic story unlock”.
PowerPyx says
It’s not needed. As explained at the top, the curiosities marked orange don’t count for trophies or anything. Only the ones marked blue count for the trophy (the ones displayed in Clive’s Room). So you’re all good 🙂
Ben says
The Circle of Malik’s is inventory but not appearing on wall of memories. The trophy will not pop and I believe it’s glitched.
PowerPyx says
That’s definitely not normal. As soon as I finished the last trial it was on the wall for me and trophy popped. It was my last Curiosity but don’t think that matters.
If you have an older manual save or autosave, reload it and redo last trial to see if it appears on wall.
thx says
FYI – for me the trophy popped after I went back to the hideout to inspect the wall. There was an icon indicating something new was ready. Initially, the item just went in my inventory without the trophy popping.
Icek says
Are curiosities transfered to a new game +? Or are they tied to a save?
Shizzlebob says
Nigel failed to give me the first Morganbeard extract after completing Root of the Problem side quest. It’s still missing from the Wall of Memories, and I even have the Invigorated Morganbeard extract. I’ve tried going back and speaking to Nigel but he just has canned dialogue.
Might want to watch out for this one. I also have the “With Two Ds” trophy.
