Final Fantasy 16 (XVI) All Chronolith Trial Locations

June 21, 2023 by PowerPyx Leave a Comment

Final Fantasy XVI has 7 Chronolith Trial Locations. Finding and completing at least one Chronolith unlocks the Trial Run trophy. You need all of them for a trophy-related Curiosity item. They are Eikon-specific challenges. There are 7 different Eikons and 1 Chronolith Trial per Eikon. You gradually unlock the Eikon abilities from main story bosses, they are the combat skill trees.

It’s best to keep the Trials until the very end of the story (or after the story). Craft Gotterdammerung first, it’s the best weapon for the first playthrough. By this point you will be sufficiently leveled too. Your equipment and level carries over into the trials. So the further you advance the game, the easier the trials will become.

How Do Chronolith Trials Work?

  1. Activate the glowing Chronolith Stone to start the trial.
  2. Each trial consists of 3 rooms with 3 waves each (9 waves total) + 1 boss at the end.
  3. The goal is to defeat all enemies before time runs out. You can get time bonuses by landing certain combos and Eikon-specific abilities.

Trials can also be replayed from the Arete stone in The Hideaway.

Chronolith Trials Strategy

  • First you will want to reach the end of the story at Main Quest 67: Back to Their Origin. At this point you can craft and equip the Gotterdammerung. It’s the best weapon. The damage output helps to beat trials faster. Most trials aren’t available until the end of the story anyway.
  • Finish all other side content first. This will get you to Level 45+ at which point the Trials are much easier.
  • Set difficulty to “Story Focused” in System > Game Settings.
  • Equip the Autoevade Ring (“Ring of Timely Evasion”). For the first 6 Trials also equip the Autocombo Ring (“Ring of Timely Strikes”). Now just mash :square: to do automatic combos, the ring will automatically do good combos that give time bonuses. Manually trigger Eikon abilities as soon as they are recharged.
  • Activate Limit Break ( :l3: + :r3: ) in the third wave of each stage to defeat the enemies faster. When paired with Eikon abilities it gives a good damage bonus.
  • In the 7th Trial for Odin you will want to unequip the Autocombo Ring because it would trigger the Zanetsuken at the wrong times. For Odin’s Trial simply spam Level 5 Zanetsuken each wave and it will instant-kill all enemies. Focus only on attacking with Odin’s Blade and using Odin’s Eikon abilities to charge the Zanetsuken quickly. Don’t use Zanetsuken at Level 4 because it won’t kill all enemies. At Level 5 it kills every enemy in one use. For the boss in the last stage use 2x Zanetsuken Level 5 and finish him off with other attacks.

Chronolith #1: The Hand of Hyperion (Phoenix)

  • Location: Rosaria > Martha’s Rest > Greenheaves.
  • Strategy: Set difficulty to “Story Focused” in game settings. Equip Gotterdammerung and Autoevade / Autocombo Rings and max out all abilities for this Eikon. Just spam :square: button and Eikon abilities. Activate Limit Break in third wave of each room.

Chronolith #2: The Hand of Dione (Garuda)

  • Location: Dhalmekia > The Krozjit Echoes
  • Strategy: Set difficulty to “Story Focused” in game settings. Equip Gotterdammerung and Autoevade / Autocombo Rings and max out all abilities for this Eikon. Just spam :square: button and Eikon abilities. Activate Limit Break in third wave of each room.

Chronolith #3: The Hand of lapetus (Ramuh)

  • Location: Sanbreque > Caer Norvent River Gate > Norvent Valley
  • Strategy: Set difficulty to “Story Focused” in game settings. Equip Gotterdammerung and Autoevade / Autocombo Rings and max out all abilities for this Eikon. Just spam :square: button and Eikon abilities. Activate Limit Break in third wave of each room.

Chronolith #4: The Hand of Titan (Titan)

  • Location: Dhalmekia > The Velkroy Desert > The Northern Velkroy Desert
  • Strategy: Set difficulty to “Story Focused” in game settings. Equip Gotterdammerung and Autoevade / Autocombo Rings and max out all abilities for this Eikon. Just spam :square: button and Eikon abilities. Activate Limit Break in third wave of each room.

Chronolith #5: The Hand of Mimas (Bahamut)

  • Location: Sanbreque > Royal Meadows > Cape Orsiere
  • Strategy: Set difficulty to “Story Focused” in game settings. Equip Gotterdammerung and Autoevade / Autocombo Rings and max out all abilities for this Eikon. Just spam :square: button and Eikon abilities. Activate Limit Break in third wave of each room.

Chronolith #6: The Hand of Rhea (Shiva)

  • Location: Waloed > Eistla > The Angry Cape
  • Strategy: Set difficulty to “Story Focused” in game settings. Equip Gotterdammerung and Autoevade / Autocombo Rings and max out all abilities for this Eikon. Just spam :square: button and Eikon abilities. Activate Limit Break in third wave of each room.

Chronolith #7: The Hand of Enceladus (Odin)

  • Location: Waloed > Vidargraes > The Badbach Conservatory
  • Strategy: Set difficulty to “Story Focused” in game settings. Easiest method is to charge up Level 5 Zanetsuken for each wave by spamming abilities and repeatedly attacking with :x: + :square: . Unleash the Level 5 Zanetsuken to instant-kill all enemies in each wave. Unequip the autocombo ring because it would trigger Zanetsuken prematurely. The Level 5 Zanetsuken is a bit slow to charge but it gives you bonus time and is guaranteed to instant kill all enemies which is faster than fighting them one by one.

That’s all of the Chronolith Trials in Final Fantasy XVI (FF 16). For all other Collectible Types refer to Final Fantasy XVI Collectible Guide.
