Introduction

Welcome to the Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness Vietnam DLC Trophy Guide! And Welcome to ‘Nam! This short DLC is set during the Vietnam War and you will find yourself playing as “the Cowboy” trying to to find your buddies and extracting out of the hot zone, after your helicopter crashed.
This DLC can also be played in Coop and features all the neat mechanics from the main game, such as capturing outposts, small mini-tasks, Guns for Hire and a new addition, Air-Strikes. Join the Fun!

Step 1: First Playthrough with Kill-Trophies and rescuing your Buddies

Enjoy your first stay in ‘Nam. Take your time and approach the PoW-Camps carefully, so that you can free your fellow soldiers. Take care of the two kill-related trophies along the way.

:bronze: Make them count
:bronze: Wendell’s Story

Step 2: Second Playthrough on Survivor Mode

In Survivor Mode, you will have less health and a smaller inventory. Blast across the map until you find a vehicle and make your way to the final battle.

:gold: Roguelike

Step 3: Third Playthrough in Action Movie Mode

In Action Movie Mode, you’ll have four weapon slots and don’t have to deal with the AA-Guns but can use Airstrikes at all times. Should make an even faster run than the two previous ones.

Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness Vietnam DLC Trophy Guide

Welcome to Nam
DLC Vietnam: Get back your gear at the helicopter crash site.
This first story Trophy is unmissable. After the introductory cutscenes and having seen your Sarge die, you are able to escape your PoW-camp. You will be attacked while unarmed and have to run away from the enemies’ fire. After about a minute and getting roughly 150 meters close to the crash-site of your helicopter, an icon will appear on-screen and lead you to its exact position. It will be guarded by two enemy soldiers and a few tutorial screens with stealth-tactics will be shown to you.
Once you’ve picked up your gear, this trophy will pop and the main mission start.
Leave no one behind
DLC Vietnam: Free the 3 US prisoners of war (Host only).
This Trophy is missable.
While your main objective of this DLC is to reach the evac-point, any good soldier would try his best to save his captured buddies. Because your Sarge sadly was already killed, there will be your three buddies left, Joker, Moses & Yokel.
They will be scattered around three different enemy camps spread over the map. You can either find them yourselves by getting close to camps or reading intel at other outposts/houses. Their locations are pretty much along the “main way” towards the end of the mission. If you actually “run past” a location, you will get an info via radio and the location added to your map.
Approach the camps as stealthy as possible and try your best not to get spotted. If your captured buddies are killed, they are gone for good and you need to start a new playthrough to get all of them for this trophy.
This shouldn’t cause too much trouble. Simply interact :square: with them – like any other hostage from the Main Game.US Prisoner Locations (click image to enlarge):

Once they have been rescued and fight alongside you, it is okay if they die permanently.

Make them count
DLC Vietnam: Kill a total of 25 enemies with airstrikes (Host only).
Airstrikes are a new feature in this DLC – they will be introduced while you take on the first outpost. While using the binoculars  , you can press :r1: to order an Airstrike to that location, which will be executed in less than 5 seconds. They have quite a large radius and can easily kill ten enemies at once, if they are close to each other.

You will start with three strikes and can have up to five in total. Completing outposts and doing side-tasks will award you with additional strikes. Make sure to use them once in a while, because you can’t get more than five.
Using them won’t break your stealth-streak (see trophy below), so don’t be too shy.
There is a restriction to use them. Once you enter a new territory, you’ll need to destroy the Anti-Air-Guns with explosives. Once the AA’s are gone, you can use Strikes again.
At the end of the main mission, you have to defend the Landing Zone and get infinite strikes, as soon as you’ve deactivated the two AA’s. If you didn’t get the trophy while playing, you should be able to get it at the very end, as there will be quite a few waves of enemies coming your way.
Silent Death
DLC Vietnam: Perform 25 stealth kills while you have the 4 survival instinct tokens.
Playing stealthy rewards you will Survival Instinct Tokens. For each stealth kill, you will get one token and up to four in total. They will help you tag enemies and staying stealthy – see screenshot below for their exact perks.

To stealth-kill an enemy, approach them from behind and press :r3: to silently take them down. Once you have racked up four stealth-kills in a row, all the next stealth-kills will count towards this trophy.

If you get spotted, the Tokens will disappear and you have to regain them again, to benefit from them and make the kills count for this Trophy.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to get all 25 kills in one go, they are cumulative.

Wendell’s Story
DLC Vietnam: Complete the game (Host only).
The complete DLC is just one large mission – and the objective is to escape.
On your first playthrough it is advised to play carefully around the camps where your buddies are held captive, because if they get killed before you free them, you need to play once more.
The ending part of this mission is a larger fight against all forms of enemies: on foot, in trucks, with AA-guns & mortars and in helicopters.

Once they have been dealt with, enter the helicopter and make the classic movie/game Vietnam-Getaway by chopper with a heavy machine gun by your side.

In the final screen, the game will tell you how many of the activities you’ve completed.
Roguelike
DLC Vietnam: Complete the game in Survivor Mode (Host only).
Survivor Mode is unlocked by beating the DLC on Normal Difficulty once.
The game is essentially the same, but this time you can carry fewer resources (only one weapon and medikit) and have less health than on Normal. When approaching the site of the final battle stick to the left side and head towards the first AA-Gun. Take out the only enemy, detonate the AA and use his mortar to aim for the second AA on the other side. Then, you are free to use your precious Airstrikes again – make use of it and stay in cover. When having picked up the document, stay in and around the house to have good cover. There are also two armor-vests and a rocket-launcher in there – they’re pretty handy to have.
80s Hero
DLC Vietnam: Complete the game in Action Movie Mode (Host only).
Action Movie Mode is unlocked by beating the DLC on Normal Difficulty once.
The game is essentially the same, but this time you can carry even four weapons and don’t have to destroy the AA-Guns in order to use your Airstrikes. So, basically, this is an Easy Mode, more or less.

So I completed this DLC twice. The first on Action Movie mode in which I saved like 3 people from the crew. The second time I played on survivor and I didn’t save any crew memebers. I did all this and I still haven’t gotten the trophy for completing the game (Wendell’s Story). Any advice?

Reinstalling the game and downloading the DLC again often fixes trophy issues.
That’s the best bet. Also delete all save games associated with the game (of course make a backup on USB beforehand so you can restore it later).

The trophy is obtainable so it seems like a case of something gone wrong during trophy set installation.

Update: apparently, you must play on Normal Mode to get that trophy. Though I have no idea how you could start in Action Movie Mode and Survivor Mode. Those games are supposed to be locked until beating it in Normal Mode first.

    Hmm Powerpyx, two issues:

    1. The survivor mode can be played in the 1st playthrough.

    2. What Steven A said above, when i finished the survivor mode for the 1st time, it doesn’t unlock the trophy “Wendell’s Story”, only unlock “roguelike”, so that is: maybe until Ubi release patch, we need 3 minimum playthroughs

And when I played 2nd time on standard mode, the trophy”Wendell’s Story” poped up

      Hi,
interesting that you both could play on Survivor the first time.
When I started the DLC, I had no option for choosing the difficulty. When I finished the first time, I had an on-screen-message telling me that now Survivor and Movie Modes are unlocked an playable.
Just tried it with a second account and couldn’t select any other difficulty from the start either.
Checked about 20 players on psnprofiles and everyone did three runs.

Have you played in someone else’s Coop-Game by any chance?
Have there been any FC5-Main-Game-Events which promised such an unlock?

Have joined someone else’s coop for the main base game but not for DLC, and i can choose difficulty for survivor for the 1st time, and 2nd run for standard, 3rd run for the action movie

the same thing happened to me, so if I make a second Standard RUN, will I unlock the trophy?

Same here Daniel. I played Normal mode for my third playthrough and did 97% of the challenges and that’s when the “Wendell’s story” trophy popped. Thank you for the reply Powerpyx.

I still don’t know how or why you guys could start on a different difficulty though o_O
dalailama1989 and I tested this and it doesn’t work for us on any account. We tried with a platinum save game and fresh game install. People on PSNP needed 3 runs according to their trophy profile and got Wendell’s story first.

There’s just no difficulty select to begin with for anyone I talked to. Not sure why it’s different for you guys.

That is strange because I downloaded the dlc as early as I could, and I was able to play any difficulty I wanted for my first playthrough. They probably have it patched by now but yes I do think you need to do 3 playthroughs. Maybe one of them has to be normal. Hope it fixes soon. Thank you again for the guide and the reply. As to those who shared their troubles with the trophy as well. Happy hunting!

Hi thanks for your guides! I have the same problem. I played my 1st playthrough on Action Movie and got 80s Hero but not the Wendell’s Story. I think they want us to play 3 times for the different difficulties to get them all. That sucks!

Do you have the EU or US-version (or any other region)?
I’m starting to think this two/three-runs issue might be across regions.

EU version. And yes I had to play 3 runs to get each trophy.

I still need the co-op trophy on the base game. I’m on PS4. My psn is theterrorhawk89. Anyone care to help me out?
