In Evil Dead you can play as the Kandarian Demon to hunt down the 4 Survivor players. In order to win as the demon, all 4 Survivors must be dead at the same time or time needs to run out. This guide will teach you the best tips and tricks step by step how to win every game as the demon.
Step by Step Walkthrough – Strategy How to Win Every Game
- As soon as the match starts, open the map (you can view the controls under Settings > Controls, depends on your setup & console). You want to find the survivors as quickly as possible to slow them down and kill them early while they are weak. The survivors always spawn at roughly the furthest point away from where the blue dagger/scroll icons are on the map, which is roughly the furthest point from where you spawn. Put a marker on the map area that is furthest away and head straight there. For example, if you start in the north of the map, the survivors will spawn in the south. If you spawned in the west, they will spawn in the east. If you spawned around the middle it’s a bit trickier to pinpoint where they might be and you’ll just have to guess and go from one place to the next until you find them. Also watch out for any text prompts on the left side that say “player is making noise” or “someone is driving a vehicle”, whenever it says this the survivors get marked on the world map for a short moment by their character icon! Immediately open the map and put a marker where they are.
- When you approach the survivors it will say “player is nearby” on the left side. This will show when you are roughly in the same area as them and you should then see their yellow (or red) outlines, depending on their fear level.
- Now start by placing traps at the exits of all buildings where survivors walk around, anywhere inside and around the buildings. When a survivor triggers a trap, possess the monster that comes out. Unpossessed monsters die in about 2-4 hits quite easily. But possessed monsters can be controlled by you, have much more health and you can deal a good amount of damage. Use quick attacks and finish your combo with a heavy attack for bonus damage. Also use your skills: Warlords can puke poison, Puppeteers can explode (use when your balance, the white bar below red health bar gets low), Necromancers can do a powerful spear stab (do 2 quick attacks, 1 heavy attack, 1 spear stab for a powerful combo). Scaring the survivors with traps also helps you build up your skill points faster so you get stronger and can dominate the match quicker.
- After earning a skill point, put it in PORTAL: BASIC (not elite). Put all points into the PORTAL: BASIC until it’s maxed out. Secondly, put all points into BOSS skill until that is maxed out. Thirdly, put all points into POSSESSION until that is maxed out. Then spend 1 point on PORTAL: ELITE and the remaining points on INFERNAL ENERGY, then TRAPS. The reason you want BASIC PORTAL and BOSS early on is because they are very strong when spawned together. Place a basic portal (fully upgraded spawns +1 extra monster and they are stronger), then quickly pick up some Infernal Energy orbs to recharge and spawn your boss. The Basic Portal monsters will distract the survivors, allowing you to quickly corner and kill 1 of them while the others are busy. Even though the monsters coming from BASIC PORTALS are much weaker, it does spawn multiple of them, whereas ELITE PORTAL only spawns 1 monsters that all survivors will fire at. The purpose is to distract them with it, overwhelm them with many monsters to keep them busy, while you do the real damage with the BOSS. If you manage to kill one survivor, do not let others revive them. Always keep an eye on the downed survivor, if someone walks over to revive them, quickly attack the reviving player. If you do well you can force an early match win with this. If the match drags on, the boss is good to use when the players activated the ritual for the blue dagger/scroll icons, it will cast a blue circle on the floor that constantly recharges your Infernal Energy, allowing your boss to stay active for longer. If the match lasts long enough to spend more skill points, then Possession will make any possessed monsters stronger and the ones coming from your portals are already powered up too. To recap what to put your points into: BASIC PORTAL > BOSS > POSSESSION > 1 POINT IN ELITE PORTAL > INFERNAL ENERGY > TRAPS > max out ELITE PORTAL. The Elite Portal can be useful if the match drags on to the very end so that you can put a Basic Portal + Elite Portal + Boss together, but the fully upgraded traps also spawn an elite monsters at a much cheaper price of only 30 Infernal Energy so it’s more cost-effective.
- After the match is over, go to Title Screen > Collection > Demons (select your preferred demon category) > spend your Spirit Points to level up. You get Spirit Points from every match, they are displayed below your User XP in the top right corner of the Title Screen (left of your User Level). Even if you earned these points playing as a Survivor you can spend them to level up demons and vice versa. Buy skills from this menu to become an even more powerful demon.
Summary: Find the players quickly > place traps, possess the monsters that spawn from trap > put all points in basic portal & boss > spawn basic portal + boss together. If match drags on put 1 point in Elite Portal so you can put Basic Portal + Elite Portal + Boss together.
Additional Tips & Tricks
Now let’s go over some extra tips:
- When you are just starting out, try all demon classes and bosses at least once to see what suits you best. You can also check Evil Dead Best Demons for Beginners for a whole guide covering this.
- You can see the survivors’ health in the bottom left and their icons on the HUD minimap in the top left. Focus on the one with the lowest health, check where their icon is on the minimap. Keep focusing on the same one to kill them and let them bleed out. The fewer survivors are left the easier it gets.
- Don’t waste your time possessing survivors with high fear (red outline). This drains your energy too quickly. It costs 100 energy plus some energy per second plus some drain when you take damage. It’s better to place a bunch of traps, spawn a basic portal, possess one of the monsters that comes out of the portal. Possessed monsters drain your energy much more slowly than possessed players. If you absolutely want to possess players, the best way is to fire their weapons from a distance at other players, which also depletes their ammo reserves at the same time, leaving them with no ammo while their teammates also use ammo to fire back and take damage.
- While possessing a monster, unpossess it when the balance bar (white bar below health) is depleted. Then you get stunned and the survivor will kill you quickly. No point in waiting to be killed, just leave the body and use that time to look for more red orbs to recharge for your next attack.
- After launching one wave of attacks, go further away to find red orbs and FULLY recharge your infernal energy (250 points by default). This is better than just getting 100 points, you can’t do much with that, even if you possess a monster you would run out of energy too quickly. Just don’t wander off too far to not lose the survivors, you don’t want them to drive away in a car while you go looking for energy.
- When survivors drive from one area to the next, possess their car (100 points) and drive it away, and if possible wreck it. This will slow them down. If they need to walk to their destination they lose a lot of time and it will build up their fear and you can spawn portals along the way to slow them down more. Remember, they have a 30 minutes time limit. Even if you can’t win by killing them all, you can win by time running out.
- If 1-2 survivors go off on their own, take them out while they are split from the group. There won’t be anyone around to help them. However, make sure you go after the ones looking for the map pieces and not people left behind running through the woods. It won’t do you much good slowing down the uncoordinated players while the good ones are doing all the objectives. After you have killed an isolated player, put a BASIC TRAP PORTAL over their dead body. Even after they bleed out, other survivors can pick up their soul to bring it to an altar and revive them. But if you put portals over the body, monsters will jump out when someone tries to revive the player. Feel free to place a bunch of trap portals around the body. That will be a nice surprise for whoever comes to the rescue!
- If in the bottom left on a dead player’s status it says “Soul is being carried” it means another player picked up their soul and can revive them at an altar. Try to prevent this. The fewer players are left alive, the easier it gets for you.
- You can also reset your skills under Title Screen > Collection > Demons > scroll over a purchased skill to remove it. Each level gives you +1 skill point. You gain levels by playing with that class and by spending your Spirit Points in that screen. The more you level up, the easier it gets.
