Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree contains 5 new map pieces. They are needed to unfog the world map. Each map piece unfogs a new part of the map. The map pieces are indicated on the fogged map as small pillars.
They are hidden in secret areas that can be confusing to reach. This guide explain how to reach all regions and map pieces.
Map – How to Reach All Areas
This all-in-one map has all explorable main paths outlined. It will guide you to every region. They are color-coded by route. The starting point is shown as a dot. The red line is the story path, everything else is optional. You can still free-roam everywhere after the story. Also see Shadow of the Erdtree All Sites of Grace.

Map Piece #1: Gravesite Plain
From where you start the DLC head northeast to find the first map on the main path, at the Scorched Ruins.
Map Piece #2: Scadu Altus
This is found in the north. To reach the area you must first beat the Rellana main boss at the end of Ensis Castle, which is northeast from where you start. Then you can exit Ensis Castle and the map will be on the main path leading north.
Here’s the full path (outlined in red):
Map Piece #3: Southern Shore
From the “Castle Front” site of grace in front of Ensis Castle, head south and go down the path until you reach green poisonous pools with flower enemies. There you find a cave entrance leading to the “Ellac River Cave” site of grace.
Here’s the cave entrance:
You must then head further south in Ellac River until you reach the coast in the south. The map will be near the start of the coast.
Here’s the full path (outlined in blue):
Map Piece #4: Rauh Ruins
This is found in the valley in the northwest of the map. First, you must have beaten the Rellana main boss at the end of Ensis Castle. Then you can ride east until you reach Moorth Ruins. To the north of Moorth Ruins is a pool with water, there you find the cave entrance that leads to the northwest area where you find the map piece.
Here’s the full path (outlined in red):
Here’s the exact point of the cave entrance:
Map Piece #5: Abyss
This is the best hidden map piece in the game. It requires punching a hidden wall in Shadow Keep to reach a teleporter.
Start at Shadow Keep > Main Gate Plaza site of grace. Go through the gate on the right (if it’s locked you must take the long path around the left). Go upstairs and turn right, there are some small black enemies and what looks like burning boats. At the end of this path on the left you can climb down a ladder to a flooded area. Go through the waterfall and down another ladder, you come to a room with a red painting.
Hit the hidden wall to the right of the red painting, the wall will disappear.
Go through the now-open wall and interact with the coffin to be teleported to the Castle Watering Hole.
Now keep heading south, you need to use the Spectral Steed to jump over the cliffs until you reach Darklight Catacombs south of the river. Go through Darklight Catacombs (there’s a boss at the end) and you’ll reach the Abyssal Woods. There you find the map piece. Here’s the full path (outlined in orange):
Bonus: How to reach the Northeast area
One area that has no map piece but is tricky to reach is the northeast. Refer to Shadow of the Erdtree: How to Reach Northeast Area. It’s a fun secret.
