Starting location
To start the quest, follow the path north of Moonglow Garden until you find the location of Eini’s House. Inside the house, you can find Eini and Trysha. Speak with Trysha once Eini has walked out of the room and she will automatically give you the list of books she wants without you agreeing to help. If Eini doesn’t walk out, carry her with R2/RT, then put her down outside the door and talk to her to trigger the quest.
NOTE: This quest is effectively the same as The Sorcerer’s Appraisal, where you are finding the same list of books for Trysha’s father Myrddin. If you want to complete both quests in one playthrough you must create forgeries of all the books, then give the forgeries to Myrddin and the real books to Trysha.
Bring Trysha some grimoires
You must look in several locations to find the books she wants. The quest log includes some hints for the first four books.
Bring Trysha “Let There Be Light”
You can obtain Let There Be Light by going to Myriddin’s Home in the Checkpoint Rest Town.
This is Trysha’s father’s home, but he won’t actually speak to you normally and sends you away and locks his door unless you show up wearing the Courtly Tunic and Courtly Breeches, which you are required to obtain for the main quest The Stolen Throne. Once you come to the door wearing these you can enter this house, and upstairs on the desk you can find Let There Be Light.
NOTE that if you speak with Myrddin in his house he has his own quest The Sorcerer’s Appraisal where he asks you for the same list of books.
Bring Trysha “Fulminous Shield”
Fulminous Shield can be purchased from the trader Dudley located in Melve where you travel in the main quest In Dragon’s Wake. He is standing near the north entrance to the town. The book base price is 5000 G. Note after you purchase this from him here he will leave this spot, so if you want other items from him purchase them before the grimoire or you will have to track him down again in Vernworth.
Bring Trysha “Nation’s Death Knell”
Nations Death Knell can be obtained in two locations. The first is from a chest located in the Waterfall Cave dungeon, This is a very large dungeon you can access early in the game, but it would be recommended you wait until you’re around level 20 with some upgraded equipment before going in, as you’ll need to fight two bosses on the way through unless you manage to run past the first one, and then escape from the second one without grabbing any other items. You can enter either the north of south entrances to the cave, then move to the lower right spot on the 1F to reach the spot where you can go to the second floor. On 2F you can find a large room with a red chest. Opening this chest gives the Nation’s Death Knell and Howling Blizzard grimoires, but also spawns a Wight boss that will attack you.
The second location is from the Ancient Battleground dungeon. This dungeon is located northeast of the Checkpoint Rest Town and is a large field with a castle to the north that is counted as the same dungeon map.
Going up the path into the castle on floor 2F you can find a long hallway with a couple of rooms off the side. In the north room (opposite from the locked door) you can find the book sitting on a stone pedestal.
Bring Trysha “Howling Blizzard”
There are two ways to obtain Howling Blizzard. The first way is to reach the Namless Village location, far east of Verworth. In this village, you can find a woman named Wendy in the house west of the Inn.
She wants the Fulminous Shield grimoire in exchange for Howling Blizzard, but it is not recommended you do this trade if you want to finish this quest earlier in the game.
The recommended way is from the same location where you obtain Nation’s Death Knell, as you will receive a copy from the same chest.
Bring Trysha “Towering Earth”
Towering Earth can be obtained by speaking to Waldhar, who you are required to rescue from the Vernworth gaol during the main quest The Caged Magistrate. If you didn’t speak with him a second time during the escape or hadn’t picked up this quest before freeing him, you can find him by going back into the underground area in the Slums to The Gracious Hand’s vaults.
Once you have found all the books, return to Trysha.
IMPORTANT: Only give her 3 books, NOT all 5. This is important so that you have enough books left to give to Myrrdin for side quest The Sorcerer’s Appraisal, who wants the same books (because there is a second copy of Nation’s Death Knell you have 6 books total and can give 3 to each person to do everything in the same playthrough, otherwise they lock out each other). This is mandatory to get all Maister’s Teachings in a single playthrough. It’s also important that you give Trysha the real books, you could technically make forgeries at Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town, but if you were to give a forgery to Trysha it won’t trigger the next quest steps correctly and you’d miss out on the two Maister’s Teachings.
Visit Trysha in a few days’ time
After giving her all the books, you will need to wait a short period for her to read through them to continue the quest. You can rest at the nearby campsite for a single day then come back.
NOTE: It is possible to Eini to randomly die from enemies nearby. If this occurs and you can’t find her you will likely need to go to the Vernworth Charnel House and revive her with a Wakestone.
Exhaust Trysha’s magick reservees
When you return Trysha will be outside casting magic. You need to wait around for her to run out of magic and calm down. You cannot directly attack her, just avoid the spells she is casting, then run up and grab her with once she becomes exhausted and stops casting spells.
Wait for Trysha to wake
After the scene, you will need to leave and wait again before you can return to see Trysha. You can rest at the nearby camping spot again for a day, then come back to the house. There will be one final scene with Trysha, after which you get a skill tome from both Trysha and Eini, completing the quest.
This finishes the Spellbound side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Grandma just doesn’t leave the house so I can’t pick the quest. Love these glitches.
Vereor says
Had the same problem. I grabbed her and took her out of the house. Ran back inside. Problem solved, lol.
Joker says
Pick grandma up and carry her outside lol. Then talk to the girl
Stretch says
You can pick her up and bring her outside
Titi says
I have the same problem…
Marthy87 says
You can actually just pick grandma up and dump her outside and then talk to Trysha.
Jake says
Nations death knell I have already picked up from both spots and used previously. Is there anything I can do? Or will I have to do new game + and do it then?
Tropxe says
You only need 3 books for this quest and 3 for the other one. There are 7 relevant books in the game, so you don’t need to forge them.
Ray says
man I fucking thought all those books are just random loots that will drop randomly infinitely in the world like some cast books. I was constantly selling them early on rip, gotta do second play through now.
Zarkos says
So far there is a lot of bug quest, lot of them have conflict, and somehow after completing the quest for both sorcerer and mage spell i got nothing, happen with a lot of quest 🙁
Sileena says
Same here but I was able to get the spell from Myrrdin by giving him a Panacea potion. It seems you need to raise your afinity with him. So far I haven’t been able to get Trysha or Eini to give me the spells though after completing the whole quest. They even each had me escort them to Melve, which no quest guide mentions, but they didn’t even give me the spells after that.
Lekarim says
There is a dealer in Checkpoint Rest Town who makes the copies. He also sells you previously sold things back. 10K for a spell.
Liquidocelot666 says
Just a tip (maybe you could add it later), but if you’re like me and didn’t check the guide before and give 3 or more tomes to the other guy asking for them (forgot his name)
There is a third duplicate, for “towering earth”
West of Balhal there could be a merchant spawning, a female Lion (don’t know the english name), if she wears a black garb, simply steal her with the thief class, and she will give you the book
If she has a brown garb, apparently killing her and wait for 3 days will make the one with the black garb spawn
In my world it was directly the black garb one so I got the book first attempt
Rift says
Trysha won’t continue her quest. I gave her the 3 books (As posted in the article), rested 1 day at the campsite. Nothing, she says she needs to study. Rested a 2nd day, same result. So, I did a bunch of other quests and slept for days while doing those. I just went back to her now as it’s been more than a “few” days and she still says: My studies are proceeding apace, thanks to you ser.” She won’t say anything more. She hasn’t gone outside to practice her magic or anything, just remains in the house. Her Grandma Eini is still alive and just says one line. I’ve carried Trysha outside, but she just goes back inside the house. No other interactions with either of them. Is this bugged and won’t complete and have to try again in NG+?
Roy says
Trysha is killed. How can I get Conjurer’s Jottings tome now? Is it still possible?
Dudemagic says
Grandma won’t give me anything. I got meteron from trash, and that was it. Grandma refuses to give me the spell
