Short-Sighted Ambition is a side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Short-Sighted Ambition side mission.

- Quest Giver: Isaac
- Requirement: Reach Bakbattahl
- Reward: 3000 XP, 16,000 G (if you give Isaac a forgery), 3000 XP, Ring of Disfavor [picked up from the pile of sand] (if you gave Isaac the real book)
- Quest Description: For some, peaceful days breed not satisfaction, but a yearning for something more. So it is with the apothecary Isaac, who seeks to improve his lot by studying a grimoire.

- Seek out a ripened quince
- Bring Isaac a ripened quince
- Visit Isaac in a few days time
- Find the grimoire’s second volume
- Deliver “On the Transference of Souls 2”
- Follow Isaac
Starting Location: Short-Sighted Ambition
To start this quest, you need to go to Isaac’s Wares located in Bakbattahl and purchase any item (one of the camping sets or the Ferrystone will work).
Seek out a ripened quince
Isaac requests you bring him a Ripened Quince as he thinks it will help his eyesight. These are a yellow fruit you can find rarely in Battahl. If you run around in the area west of Battahl you may find one, but you can more reliably obtain it by killing Goblins who will drop 1 or 2 Quince relatively frequently. Breakable items in caves such as the Tomb of Am’Ranna can also drop Quince.
Bring Isaac a ripened quince
Once you have obtained at least one Quince, you can obtain wait on the bench near the inn in Bakbattahl until it turns into a ripened Quince.
Visit Isaac in a few days time
You’ll need to leave the area and come back later, resting once at the inn is enough, then return and speak with Isaac directly.
Find the grimoire’s second volume
Isaac wants you to find the second volume of the grimoire for him, but as you walk away you will be stopped by his wife and daughter who ask that you don’t bring it to him. This does give you the option to bring him the second volume or bring him a fake which has two different quest outcomes.
The second volume can be found at Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in the Checkpoint Rest Town (you may have spotted it in his inventory earlier in the game). It is called On the Transference of Souls 2. If you have purchased it already and stuck it in storage the objective will still be in the Checkpoint Rest Town until you pull it out of storage (or rebuy it from Ibrahim’s Special Finds if you lost it somehow).
Now with it in hand, it is recommended you request a forgery of the book from Ibrahim for 2400 G. When returning to him in around 2 days you’ll receive a book called On the Transit of Souls 2. This is the book you want to turn in to Isaac for the “good” ending to this quest.
Deliver “On the Transference of Souls 2”
Once you have the book ready, head back to Isaac and turn it in. If you still have both in your inventory make sure you turn in the correct one for the outcome you want, Transit is the forgery, Transference is the real one.
Follow Isaac
Now you can follow Isaac around the opposite side of the building, where he will attempt to use the second book. If you give him the real one, it will kill his wife and daughter, but if you give him the forgery they live and he gives up trying to use the grimoire.
After the quest is complete if you get the “good” ending you can return to Isaac later at his shop where you can purchase from him the other Transference of Souls volume, which you can combine in your inventory to create a unique spell book that casts Celestial Paean (the Mage maister spell).
If you get the “bad” ending Isaac will leave the shop, but that means there is no one to run it. If you have progressed Off the Pilfered Path in the way where Hugo is alive you can ask him to start working at Isaac’s shop instead.
This finishes the Short-Sighted Ambition side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
