- Quest Description: Participate in the customary exchange of gifts
Objectives:
- Exchange Gifts
- Clear yourself of suspicion / identify the true culprit
Starting Location: A Noble Exchange
The quest starts in the Masquerade Hall, on the Vernworth Castle grounds. You have to go there at night on a day when a Masquerade is being held. Masquerades are held every 2 nights. If there are no masked civilians inside and the guard at the door says there’s no masquerade this night, then rest on the bench in front of Vernworth Castle gate (exit from Noble Quarter) until the next night and come back. Upon entering the Masquerade Hall, an NPC close to the entrance of the round room where the guests are gathered will automatically talk to you and give this quest. The quest requires story progression, it will appear some point between Main Quest 11: Nation of the Lambent Flame to Main Quest 14: A New Godsway.
Exchange Gifts
You have to approach all other NPCs in the Masquerade Hall. When going near them they will automatically talk to you and give you a gift. You don’t have to gift them anything back. Talk to everyone, then run through the corridors near the guards until there’s an automatic dialogue scene with the guard called “Olven” saying there’s a thief at the masquerade.
Then keep walking around until Olven enters the round main hall, there will be another automatic dialogue scene where he tells the attendees the paragon staff was stolen. He says that everyone will be searched before leaving the hall, and he gives permission to subdue the culprit.
Clear yourself of suspicion / identify the true culprit
There are two ways to finish this quest.
The first option that gives the bigger reward is to subdue the guy who gave you the Paragon Staff. He is the thief. Simply grab him with R2/RT to carry him (if you don’t remember what he looks like see the image above of the quest giver). Then he gets scared and confesses to stealing the staff and after some dialogue the quest ends. This choice gives the highest reward of 7500 Gold but you won’t be able to buy the Paragon Staff from Ibrahim’s Scrap Store.
The second option is to go into the changing room in the back right corner and discard of the staff from your inventory. Stand behind the privacy screen, open your inventory, select Paragon Staff, choose “Discard”. Then hurry back to the main hall, upon arriving back there the guard will search everyone and you’ll be put back outside the hall which ends the quest. This choice gives only 3000 Gold but you can then buy the Paragon Staff from Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town for 60,000 Gold after a few days have passed.
It comes down to personal preference what outcome you prefer: if you want extra gold go with the first option, if you want the option for an extra purchasable weapon later then go with that. Either way will finish this quest.
This finishes A Noble Exchange side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
