Detroit Become Human: On the Run Walkthrough 100%

June 2, 2018 by dalailama1989 56 Comments

On the Run is the 13th chapter in Detroit Become Human. This walkthrough will guide you through all the choices of the On the Run level for 100% completion.

This chapter begins after completing Waiting for Hank…

This is a very long chapter – to quickly navigate this site, click on the following Branches to directly jump to them: Parking-Lot, Motel, Squat & Pursuit.

Flowchart 100% Complete

Here’s a quick overview of the flowchart for “On the Run”:
*Special Thanks to Sitron for the Flowcharts

Parking-Lot-Branch

Checkpoint: Morning Parking Lot

  • Leave Alice Asleep in Car: Unmissable, simply exit the car.
  • Find some Rusted Scissors: They are stuck in a tire in front of the car.
    • Cut and Color Hair [CROSS CHAPTER IMPACT]: Choose a color to your liking.
      • Brown
      • Black
      • White
      • Blonde
    • Remove LED: Unmissable, Kara will always rip it out after choosing her new haircut.
  • Try to open Car Trunk: Go to the back of your car and try to open it. It won’t, so we need to find something.
    • Find a Crowbar: Luckily, a crowbar will be placed on the other side of the car, close to the fence bordering the Squat House.
      • Find Some Clothes [CROSS CHAPTER IMPACT]: Once you have successfully opened the trunk
  • Check Neighborhood / Police in Vicinity: Unmissable, you have to go to the door you have entered the Lot and look through it. Kara notices that the Police is in the area.
  • Read “Cyber-Wildlife”: Placed right in front of the car.
  • Read “Android and Canada”: Placed right in front of the car.
  • Find burnt Android: Check the back-wall – a dead Android was tossed behind a dumpster.
  • Wake up Alice / Leave the Parking Lot: Unmissable, these are the next steps to proceed.

Checkpoint: Connor Investigates Supermarket

  • Police Don’t Have a Lead: Unmissable, that’s just the way it is.

  • Walk Toward Train Station: Our Main Objective here.
    • Sneak Past Police Forces / Reached the Train Safely:
      • Cross the street in the direction of the motel and use the cover shown on screen.
      • Cross the street to the left to the side of the Laundromat, turn right and use the next cover behind a bus-shelter.
      • When the Danger is gone, proceed and cross the street fast. If you are a bit too slow, you will be spotted.
      • On the other side of the street (the Motel-Side again), use the Umbrella as cover, as prompted.
      • Continue onwards and use the ATM-Cover to the right once given the choice between two.
    • Spotted by Police / Kara & Alice Run Away: continue with Pursuit-Branch.

      • Reached the Train Safely
    • Spotted by Police
      • Kara & Alice Run Away

Squat-Branch

Checkpoint: Morning in Squat

Explore Squat

  • Read “Cyber-Wildlife”: Located on the table in the room you start in.
  • Read “Android and Canada”: Located on the table in the room you start in; swipe :touchpad: to the right, to read it.

  • Revive Fire: Unmissable in order to continue. Grab the wood near the window and put it into the fireplace.
  • Check on Alice: simply bow down to her, while she is asleep.
  • Read Leaflet: Go through the door into the kitchen. Check the trashcan in front of you to find it.
  • Look at Ralph’s stuff: To the right of the kitchen, a few of Ralph’s belongings are displayed – take a look at them.
    • Steal Money: When checking the money, simply choose to steal a bit, once you have the choice.

  • Go upstairs:
    • Change Clothes: Only possible, if you haven’t stolen new clothes in Fugitives!
      • [CROSS CHAPTER IMPACT] Take Gun Back: Simply pick it up, once you have changed.
      • [CROSS CHAPTER IMPACT] Forgot Gun: Don’t pick it up and proceed. Once in the argument with Ralph downstairs, choose the :triangle: Check Gun option to realize, you didn’t pick it up.
    • Cut and Color Hair: Choose a color of your liking.
    • Remove LED: Unmissable; Kara will always tear the LED-Ring from her face.
    • Find Corpse in Bathtub: After removing the LED and before going down again, pull away the curtain to see a body. This will open a new dialogue option soon.
    • Go Downstairs: While doing so, a cutscene with Connor and Hank will play. They are standing just across the street and try to find Kara’s whereabouts.

Police Arrives

  • Ralph wants a Family Meal: When Kara goes downstairs she witnesses Alice being scared by Ralph jumping around with a knife and a dead animal.
    • Agree to Sit: When Ralph asks you to sit, press :x: to do so.
    • Refuse to Sit / Ralph Threatens Alice: When Ralph asks you to sit, press :o: to refuse.
  • Sit at the Table: No matter what you chose before, you will eventually sit down.
    • Discuss Corpse: If you have discovered the body upstairs, press :o: to bring up the subject.
    • Try to Convince Ralph: Press :x: BLUFF, to talk nicely to Ralph an make him understand to let you go.
    • [CROSS CHAPTER IMPACT] Threaten Ralph: If you have your gun on you, press :triangle: to threaten him.
  • Ralph Apologizes: If you didn’t choose the gun before, Ralph will apologize for his behavior.
  • Disturbed by Connor: No matter what you do, Connor will always arrive at the scene.

Checkpoint: Connor investigates Squat

  • Enter Squat: When controlling Connor, simply walk around the corner and enter the building through the regular door.
  • Interrogate Squat Android:
    • Squat Deviant informs on AX400: [CROSS CHAPTER IMPACT] If Kara threatened Ralph with her Gun a few seconds back, Ralph will tell Connor immediately that Kara & Alice just ran away.
    • Squat Android keeps quiet: If Kara didn’t threaten Ralph with the Gun, he won’t give up their location and Connor can start to investigate.

Investigate Squat Ground Floor

  • Analyze Squat Android: Move closer to Ralph and press :r2: to analyze him – you have to find the three clues on his head.
  • Check Upstairs: Head up the stairs. Connor will stay in the middle of them and ask Ralph if there is anyone upstairs. Ralph declines and Connor believes him.
  • Check Table: Go past Ralph and look at the clues on the table. Dinnerware for three and food seems suspicious to Connor.
  • Check Fireplace: The burning fire also irritates Connor, as Androids don’t need warmth.
  • Check Kitchen: Go to the door and peek inside – no one will be inside.
  • Hank Commands Connor to Leave: If you wait for a long time and don’t find Kara & Alices’ hideout, Hank will come in and order you to leave.
    • Squat Android disappears / Kara & Alice undiscovered in Squat: When Hank enters, Ralph will be gone and it appears as Connor is alone in the room. Connor & Hank will leave and Kara & Alice will crawl out of their hideout and thank the returned Ralph.
  • Check under the Stairs / Squat Android attacks Connor / AX400 and Child escaped: If you keep a lookout for Ralph’s Stress-Level once Connor walks around, you notice that it will go up if you get closer to the stairs and arcade-machine. If you step too close to the side of the stairs, Ralph will hold Connor, while Alice & Kara run away.
    • This will lead to the Pursuit-Branch below.

Pursuit-Branch

Many decisions of either branch will lead to the Pursuit-Scene between Connor and Kara. See all possible choices below.

  • Reach Fence too late (1/2): When you gain control of Connor again, simply don’t move at all. The chase will fail about 30 seconds later, with unknown whereabouts of Kara & Alice.
  • Reach Fence too late (2/2): When you gain control of Connor again, run towards the first checkpoint, where the police officer leads you into the alley. Don’t run any further and let them escape over the freeway.
  • Reach Fence in time: Be quick enough to reach the fence, while Kara & Alice are just climbing it down.
    • [only on experienced difficulty] Car hits Kara & Alice: Fail the QTE while crossing the first set of lanes.
    • Kara & Alice reach Middle Section: Pass the QTE while crossing the first set of lanes.
      • Hank orders Connor not to go / Connor obey’s Hank’s Order: Press :x: GIVE UP when standing at the fence with Hank.
        • Kara & Alice get to the Other Side: Pass the QTE while crossing the second set of lanes.
        • [only on experienced difficulty] Car hits Kara & Alice: Fail the QTE while crossing the second set of lanes.
      • Hank orders Connor not to go / Connor pursues AX400: Press :o: GO when standing at the fence with Hank.

          • Kara & Alice get to the Other Side: Pass the QTE while crossing the second set of lanes.
          • Car hits Kara & Alice: Fail the QTE while crossing the second set of lanes.
        • Connor reaches Middle Section / Kara & Alice cross last Section / Connor catches Kara: Pass the QTE while crossing the first set of lanes.
          • Kara loses Connor: Pass the QTE with Kara while fighting.
            • Connor avoids Collision: Pass the QTE with Connor after losing the fight.
            • Connor hit by Car: Fail the QTE with Connor after losing the fight.
          • [only on experienced difficulty] Car hits Kara: Fail the QTE with Kara fighting Connor.

The only time you need experienced difficulty is when you cross the first set of lanes as Kara and Alice. I was able to get Kara and Alice run over in the second lane on normal difficulty

Instead of going to the stairs, head more to the right side. There you can see a blue door, which you can check.
Took me some time to find it aswell.

Trying to achieve 100% but I don’t understand how to get the different morning checkpoints? I have 100% completed fugitives but when I go to play through on the run I always load up in the place I picked on my first play through. Do I need to start a new story and play through that way? Or is there a way to do this just through the chapters screen?

I am pretty sure you need to re-play the chapter fugitives and always choose another location where you want to spend the night (Motel, Parking Lot or Abandonned house) and every other following chapter until this one.

    • Kate says

      June 3, 2018 at 3:00 pm

I have tried doing this a couple of times, but as soon as I load up for on the run I will always load up in the squat, even if I slept in the car or motel

    • Enrico says

      June 3, 2018 at 9:36 pm

      Strange,

I tried it myself, started with “Fugitives” then continued with “From the Dead”, “Waiting for Hank” until you reach “On the Run”.

I stopped at the abandoned house in “Fugitives” and thats right where “on the run” is starting (of course after doing all the chapters in between).

    • Omega says

      June 3, 2018 at 11:10 pm

You have 100% Fugitives? How do you get the 3rd option after the “Clerk Grabs a Gun”?
Btw, you have to replay all the afterwards chapters to get the result of your different choices.

    • Chris says

      July 29, 2018 at 4:46 am

Not sure if this was ever resolved for you because it doesn’t appear as though anybody gave you the answer. But for others who may be reading this and wondering the same thing… You need to replay Fugitives but make sure to SAVE progress and play all the way through to this chapter. You can’t change your precious choices and then skip ahead. Each choice that you change invalidates the rest of the previous play through so you have to keep going from that point with save turned on.

You might have figured this out already and just not posted again. Hopefully this will help somebody else who hasn’t made that connection yet.

You have to make sure you click on the scenario you want to replay. I did the same thing. I wanted to replay the squat scenario. Went to parking lot instead.. you can start at any of the 3 scenarios if you completed and made it to on the run

I need some help with the pursuit-branch

Connor reaches Middle Section / Kara & Alice cross last Section / Connor catches Kara
    and then
[only on experienced difficulty] Car hits Kara: Fail the QTE with Kara fighting Connor.

I tried this with not hitting or pressing a button during the fight, or pressing everything wrong on experienced level, but Kara is not hit by a car

    What am I missing here?

      I have the same problem.
Kara survives even losing the QTE against Connor.

I saw in a video that there is a further command (X) for her after the fight, but It doesn’t show up with me.

    • KillPhil says

      June 3, 2018 at 7:32 pm

      I got it.
With Kara, you have to make EVERYTHING CORRECT in the first part of the street and EVERYTHING WRONG in the second part.
Even the QTE after Connor reaches Kara.

    • Evrim says

      November 25, 2020 at 4:03 am

Partially correct. As long as you get across the first section (you can still miss a couple) and then you put the controller down after they get to the middle section, then it will work.

    • Eat the Path says

      February 7, 2021 at 7:46 am

      Thank you!!
I kept getting Alice across the street before I stopped pushing buttons ’cause I was scared she’d get killed before Connor got to her haha
Didn’t even think to just put the controller down after I got Connor to the middle. It’s sad how happy I was to see Kara get hit by that car ??

I have an idea about the missing option in “Investigate Squat Ground Floor”. It is directly connected to the squat android disappearing, so maybe somehow you are allowed to check upstairs. And when you find the dead body in the tub, the squat android disappears. This is pure speculation, but I have been trying to figure it out and seems like no one has the solution yet.

This is pure speculation but I think I know how to get the missing node at the squat branch. Let Kara argue with Ralph, then when Conner enters the house do nothing at all.

When Kara pulls the Gun on Ralph while arguing, he will always give up the location to Connor right away.

When Ralph apologizes to Kara while arguing, he will keep shut. If you stand around with Connor for too long then, it unlocks the “Hank Commands Connor to Leave”-node.

This doesn’t help much in figuring out how to get that last node in the Squat branch, but I thought I’d share what I tried.

As Connor, I tried wasting time outside the Squat and seeing if that would give Ralph a chance to run off and disappear. I tried walking all around the outside the house to see if there was anything at all I could interact with or look at with L1. Before going inside, you can peek in the window to spot Ralph. After that, I tried wasting time/looking around again, wondering if Connor had to see him first.

Did not work. Either I didn’t wait long enough or that isn’t the solution.

Also, I discovered that you can also inspect the box to the left of the table with the wire cutters and the toy/chocolate on it. And the arcade machine. These things don’t seem to help, though.

    • JoeShmoe says

I just tried the same thing you did. Nothing. I have a feeling the missing box is supposed to be an option to voluntarily leave. But maybe it’s bugged so you can’t leave.

Has anyone stolen Ralph’s money to see if that’ll do it? Although I have no idea why that would work.

Maybe the missing node is to do with if Kara decides to leave the squat instead of stay in the squat in “Fugitives”? Connor will investigate the blood on the fence and then the squat but won’t find anything since Kara never stayed? I can’t check this right now but if anyone else can then please let me know if this is right!

The game forces Connor to home in on Kara, so if you don’t stay at the Squat he won’t investigate it. I believe they removed the node entirely in a recent patch, however, so whatever event it might be is gone.

I just stumbled upon the flowchart pictures on another site (not sure if I’m allowed to link it here) but in those screenshots there is NO such missing node during Connor investigating the squat. I don’t know at what time they were posted for sure (seems to be May 25th) and the game language/version is french. I can see the missing node in my own savegame thus being unable to unlock it to 100%. So it has to be a bug since I don’t think someone would just photoshop the node and erase it tbh.

Is there a way that leads to Kara NOT cutting her hair in this chapter? My assumption would be sleeping at the motel and not drawing a bath for Alice? Is that even possible or do you always have to draw a bath for her? I’m busy with getting my last missing trophies, so I couldn’t check, yet.

Thank you so much for these walkthroughs! They definitely save a lot of time guessing what different nodes mean and making unnecessary re-runs. I spent many hours replaying up to On The Run, especially because of bugs in Fugitives and little mistakes on my part (not saving my choice to take the gun in Stormy Night killed me). Again, greatly appreciated! ?

I can’t unlock the node where Kara forgets her gun in the squat.
I have tried just ignoring the gun and continued, and I have also tried failing the QTE when picking it up and then continued, but I never get the “check gun” option when at the table with Ralph.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but even if you don’t have the gun in you during the “Squat” chapter, Kara can still Threaten Ralph with a knife when they’re sat at the dinner table. This will also help unlock the “Threaten Ralph” part of the flowchart :-)
