Introduction

Welcome to the Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles Trophy Guide! This is a relatively quick game to platinum. The main task is getting all S-Ranks in Story Mode. While the majority is super easy, there are a few that are quite hard, particularly some minigames that require pressing buttons in quick succession. The Versus Mode trophies can all be done offline against the CPU, there are no online trophies. The rest of the trophies is tied to doing the side tasks in the Story (for unlocking Music, Quotes, Memory Fragments) and completing the Training Challenges for 10 Characters which simply require beating that opponent 10 times.

Step 1: Finish Story Mode, Collect Memory Fragments & Reward Missions

First you should focus on playing through Story Mode, which takes about 4 hours. Ideally, you can already get the majority of S-Ranks along the way. Try to finish the matches with high health (above 75% health) and as quickly as possible. If you miss an S-Rank don’t worry about it, you can replay every fight directly from the Story Menu, no need to replay the entire Chapter. Any S-Ranks you missed can still be redone after the story.

Nothing is missable. To save time you should grab everything marked on the map as you go through the Story. Memory Fragments and Reward Missions are needed to unlock various Collectible Types from the Rewards Menu (Profile Photos, Quotes, Music Tracks). Everything is marked on the map by default so you won’t need a Collectible Guide for this. In the Story Menu it also shows a blue exclamation mark on Sub-Chapters where you missed a Reward Mission. If you scroll over a Memory Fragment in the Storyline it shows in which Sub-Chapter it is, then use the map to find it right away.

  •  Memory Fragment – These are the gems marked on the map. You need 50 of 53 for trophy purposes. Some unlock automatically from story progress, some are found in the world. All marked on map. It’s okay to skip 3 of them. Must also view them from the Story Menu to count for the trophy.
  •  Reward Mission – These are the blue exclamation points on the map. Doing all unlocks many Profile Photos, Quotes, Music Tracks which you need for trophies. Not all of them are needed, can still redo them later after the story by replaying the Sub-Chapter they are in.
  •  Kimetsu Points – These are the golden sparkles on the map, used to buy Rewards (which then unlock Profile Photos, Quotes, Music Tracks). Finding these isn’t absolutely necessary, but they are all along the main story paths anyway so might as well pick them up.

Step 2: Remaining S-Ranks

After the Story, finish up any S-Ranks you have left. That will most likely be the Chapter 7 Minigames, some of the Special Missions and some of the Chapter 8 Fights. The rest you probably got first try.

Refer to :gold: All Chapters Rank S for tips & tricks.

Step 3: VS Mode & Training

The only thing left are the VS Mode trophies which can all be done in 5 minutes and completing all Training Challenges for 10 Characters which takes about 2 hours total. The Training Challenges are quite easy, they are just 10x one-round matches against the same character. You don’t need to do the optional objectives for the trophy, just beat the opponent 10 times. See :gold: Always Be Prepared.

All Chapters Rank S
Achieve a chapter rank of S on every chapter.
There are 8 Chapters in total. You need S-Ranks in all of them, which is the highest obtainable rank.

To get S-Rank on a Chapter you must get S-Ranks on EVERY fight in the Chapter (and in the case of Chapter 7 the Minigames are also needed). If you have a single A-Rank and the rest are S-Ranks it won’t give you an overall S-Rank Rating on the Chapter. Every single fight needs to be S-Rank to get an S-Rating overall. Furthermore, you must also get S-Rank on Hard difficulty for Special Missions and Minigames. Story fights are only available on Normal difficulty, but the Special Missions need to be S-Ranked on Normal AND Hard difficulty. Hard difficulty isn’t that much harder than Normal difficulty though, the enemies just have a little more health.

To get a guaranteed S-Rank, you should win the match without taking any damage (having 100% health at end of fight), beat it as quickly as possible (to get all 1500 points for time bonus), Land 5 or more Skills ( :triangle: attacks), Boost and Surge once ( :l2: when the boost in bottom left of screen is charged). At the end of each fight it shows the score calculation so you can see how well you did and where you can improve. You can also check your ranks from the Story Menu at any time, click on a fight and choose “Rank Breakdown” to see the score calculation.

Most of the main story fights are quite forgiving and you pretty much always get S-Ranks. There are fights where you can still easily get S-Rank with only 50% health left, if you get all the points for beating it within the time limit.

There are only a few tricky ones. The Chapter 6-8 Special Missions (bosses) are much more challenging than the rest because they have 2 health bars. Some of the Chapter 8 story fights are also a bit tricky. In particular, the most difficult ones are Chapter 7: Tea Splasher minigame on Hard, Chapter 8: Special Mission “The Temple Fiend”, Chapter 8: Fight against Akaza. If you can do those 3 you can do the rest easily.

It’s best to focus only on the main story first and mop up the S-Ranks after the story. You can select any fight directly from the storyline without needing to replay the chapter. It will let you jump straight to the fight you didn’t get S-Rank on. If you lose too much health, either back out to storyline to restart the fight, or let the opponent defeat you and then choose to restart from Last Autosave (don’t pick “Continue” option as it voids the S-Rank).

S-Rank Fight Tips:

  • Recommended Team & Attacks (Fast way to finish Matches for Time Bonus): Kyojuro Rengoku + Sakonji Urokodaki – with Kyojuro do :l-right: + :square: > :l-right: + :triangle: (repeat 3 times to juggle enemy in air) > :l1: to finish with Sakoni’s team attack. This should juggle the opponent in the air and does an easy 25-hit combo that deals a lot of damage. You don’t absolutely need to do 3 special :triangle: attacks in a row, the more hits you do the less damage they deal. Just do as many as your special attack meter permits (blue bar at top of screen, recharges automatically over time). Kyojuro is unlocked in Chapter 8, so at the end of the game.
  • Alternative Team (Easy Method to finish with 100% Health, but slower): Zenitsu Agatsuma + Sakonji Urokadaki – with Zenitsu, let his Special Attacks recharge (blue bar at top of screen), then spam :triangle: + left stick combos on the enemy. This attack has really good range. After landing the first hit, tilt the left stick in the direction of the enemy and again press :triangle: and repeat as many times as your Special meter allows. While your Special Attacks recharge, run in big circles around the arena to avoid the opponent and always spam :l1: when a support attack is ready. It’s a pretty easy way to win any match with 100% health left, no skill required. However, it’s not always the quickest method and you may lose out on a time bonus. For some opponents it works great, for others it’s too slow (on some of the later Special Missions it’s too slow).
  • Always dodge sideways :circle: to evade enemy attacks. After they miss an attack, press :circle: (without tilting left stick) to rush to the opponent and then unleash the combo described above.
  • When an enemy starts glowing, he/she will do a series of powerful attacks. During this just focus on running / dodging sideways in big circles around the arena and spam :l1: support attacks after the enemy finishes an attack animation. The :l1: support attacks are a good way to deal extra damage while you run away, which lets you finish the match quicker for the time bonus points.
  • Generally, dodging :circle: is safer than blocking :r1: . Blocking can be good for some of the Chapter 8 bosses, but other than that I only used dodge & running away.
  • For Chapter 8 Temple Fiend Special Mission, when he summons 2 copies of himself at the end, you can target them with the Right Stick to kill them, or try to evade them and keep focusing on the main boss (if the main boss dies, the match ends instantly). Try around what works better for you. Focusing on his 2 copies takes longer, so you might lose out on the time bonus if you’re not fast enough, but ignoring them makes it harder to not get hit. Always spam the :l1: support attacks and try to land a quick :triangle: attack when he is glowing and bombards you with attacks, the main difficulty is finishing this fight quickly to get the time bonus. Akaza is another Chapter 8 fight that you need to do pretty much perfectly with 100% health left, got to learn his attack pattern perfectly which can take many tries.

Chapter 7 Minigame – Gourd Breaker S-Ranks:

Buttons are usually connected by a colored line. You need to hold the first button and then release it when the second button gets to the ring in the middle of the screen. E.g. if there are two :x: Buttons following each other and they are connected by a line, you would hold the :x: Button when it reaches the ring in the middle of the screen, keep holding it and let go when the 2nd :x: Button reaches the circle in middle of screen.

Try to get many “Great” ratings for S-Rank. When you need to break the 4 Gourds after reaching certain point thresholds, you must tap the last button very quickly. On Hard difficulty the Gourds require more button presses to be destroyed.

The button pattern / order is the same each time, so it’s just a matter of learning by repetition, memorizing the buttons and building muscle memory. You don’t need all Great ratings for S-Rank. Just don’t get any bad ratings and get mostly Great ones and break the Gourds quickly.

Chapter 7 Minigame – Tea Splasher S-Ranks:

You need to press the buttons when they are inside the rings in the middle of the screen. The most important part is to build up a long combo by not missing any button presses (not getting any “Bad” ratings). Ideally you can get mostly “Great” ratings, but it’s still better to get only some “Good” ones than to miss a button entirely as it would reset your multiplier.

It’s just a matter of practice by repetition. It can seem difficult at first but the button pattern / order is always exactly the same each try. So the more times you try it, the more muscle memory you will build for the button order. It can be a bit frustrating at first so try for 15 minutes and give it a break, then try again a bit later. After a while you’ll know the button order from memory.

I’m On It
Clear a special mission for the first time.
See :silver: Special Agent.
Special Agent
Earn S ranks on five special missions (difficulty: normal).
There’s 1 Special Mission per Chapter (except Prologue). There are 8 Chapters, so 8 Special Missions. They unlock at the end of the Chapter and are bonus boss fights. You will need to S-Rank all of these anyway for :gold: All Chapters Rank S.

For the purpose of this particular trophy, only 5 on normal difficulty are required.

Déjà Vu
View a memory fragment.
See :silver: Never Forget.
Reminiscence
View 25 memory fragments.
See :silver: Never Forget.
Never Forget
View 50 memory fragments.
There are 53 Memory Fragments in the game. For trophy purposes you only need 50, so 3 can be skipped.

Some are automatic story unlocks, can’t miss them. Others are picked up in the Chapters. They are all automatically marked on the map by a gem icon . In the Story Menu it shows you where missing Memory Fragments are when you scroll over them. You can then replay the particular Sub-Chapter if you forgot one (no need to replay the entire chapter from scratch). In the story Menu you always see the Memory Fragments branching off from the Sub-Chapters, which is a quick way to tell what Sub-Chapter they are from. Because they are all automatically on the map you won’t need a Collectible Guide for this one.

Important: To pop the Memory Fragment trophies you must also VIEW the fragments from the Story menu (blue icons in story branch). Just collecting them isn’t enough. You are allowed to skip their cutscenes by holding :circle: and it still counts as having watched it. The ones you haven’t watched will show a red exclamation mark in the Story Menu, which goes away after having watched them. This way you can quickly tell which ones you have left to watch. Some collected Memories will show up under older Chapters, e.g. in the Prologue.

Entranced
Trigger a Trance Memory.
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. Trance Memories are mini-cutscenes that trigger during certain boss battles automatically over the course of the game. Can’t miss this. You will see the first Trance Memory during the Prologue after your first fight, so this will be your very first trophy in the game.
Smashing Gourds
Clear Gourd Breaker in Chapter 7: The Butterfly Mansion for the first time.
See :bronze: A Lotta Hot Air.
A Lotta Hot Air
Earn an S rank in the Gourd Breaker minigame on normal difficulty.
Gourd Breaker is a minigame in Chapter 7. It can be replayed from the Story Menu after doing it for the first time. To Get S-Rank you must break all 4 Gourds in the time limit.

The button pattern / order is the same each time, so it’s just a matter of learning by repetition, memorizing the buttons and building muscle memory. You don’t need all Great ratings for S-Rank. Just don’t get any bad ratings and get mostly Great ones and break the Gourds quickly.

(Don’t) Spill the Tea
Clear Tea Splasher in Chapter 7: The Butterfly Mansion for the first time.
See :bronze: In Too Steep.
In Too Steep
Earn an S rank in the Tea Splasher minigame on normal difficulty.
Tea Splasher is a minigame in Chapter 7. It can be replayed from the Story Menu after doing it for the first time. To Get S-Rank you must reach the last segment of the score meter at the top of the screen (but you don’t need to fill it all the way to the end).

There Can Only Be One
Play VS Mode for the first time.
Go to Title Screen > VS Mode > Offline Match > vs. CPU > Play one Match with any Characters.
A Taste for Competition
Win in VS Mode for the first time.
Go to Title Screen > VS Mode > Offline Match > vs. CPU > Win one Match with any Characters (can play on Very Easy difficulty).
Ultimate Finish
Get an Ultimate Art Finish in VS Mode.
Go to Title Screen > VS Mode > Offline Match > vs. CPU > Finish a match with :r2: Ultimate Art Finisher. Over the course of the match, your Ultimate Art bar (bottom left of screen) will automatically fill up. The Ultimate Art must be the final hit on the opponent. You can set “Rounds to Win” to 1 in Match Settings (VS Mode > Offline Match > Match Settings).
Combo No. 25
Get a 25-hit combo in VS Mode.
For an easy 25-hit combo, play Kyojuro Rengoku as your main character (automatically unlocked from story) & Sakonji Urokodaki as your teammate.

Press :l-right: + :square: > :l-right: + :triangle: (repeat 3 times to juggle enemy in air) > :l1: to finish with teammate’s attack.

Death By a Thousand Cuts
Finish off your opponent with a Light Attack: 5-Hit Combo in VS Mode.
Go to Title Screen > VS Mode > Offline Match > vs. CPU (Very Easy difficulty recommended). It’s also recommended to set the match length to 1 Round (VS Mode > Offline Match > Match Settings).

Weaken up the opponent to about 15-20% Health. Then activate Boost :l2: and while Boost is active press 5x :square: (without using left stick) to do a Light Attack with a special animation at the end. This will actually cause more than 5 hits, which is fine for the trophy. What the trophy means is that you must press :square: 5 times to trigger the “5-Hit Combo” animation (which only works after you Boosted with :l2: and you can’t tilt the Left Stick). You can also see this by pausing the Match and going to Command List > Normal Attacks > Light Attack 5 Hit-Combo. Just make sure that the final hit that ends the match is the animation that plays when the 5-Hit Combo ends.

Perfect Record
Win in VS Mode without losing a single round.
Go to Title Screen > VS Mode > Offline Match > vs. CPU > Finish a match without losing a Round. You can set “Rounds to Win” to 1 in Match Settings (VS Mode > Offline Match > Match Settings). Also play on “Very Easy” to make this even easier.
On Second Thought…
Perform an Emergency Escape in VS Mode.
Go to Title Screen > VS Mode > Offline Match > vs. CPU > While being attacked by the opponent, press :l1: and left stick to be saved by your teammate. Must have 2 “Support Bars” in the top left corner (next to your teammate’s icon). The Support Bars charge automatically over time.
Practice Makes Perfect
Play Practice mode.
Go to Title Screen > VS Mode > Practice > Start and end one Practice session.
A Fast Learner
Clear a Rank 1 challenge in Training.
See :gold: Always Be Prepared.
The Student Becomes The Master
Clear a Rank 10 challenge in Training.
See :gold: Always Be Prepared.
Always Be Prepared
Clear 10 characters’ Rank 10 challenges in Training.
Go to Title Screen > Training. There are 12 Characters with 10 Challenges each (Tanjiro, Sabito, Makomo, Sakonji, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Murata, Giyu, Shinobu, Kyojuro, Hinokami). The Academy Characters don’t have Training Challenges.

For this trophy you only need to finish the Challenges of 10 Characters, meaning you can skip 2 Characters.

They are just normal one-round matches with 2 extra requirements. For the trophy you don’t need to do the optional objectives at all. You only need to beat the opponent 10 times for trophy purposes, which will count as “cleared”.

Each Challenge takes about 60-90 seconds with loading times. This trophy will take about 2 hours total (100 Challenges x 1 – 1.5 minutes each).

Potential Bug & Fix: If this trophy doesn’t unlock after the 10th character challenge, a fix is to also complete the 11th and 12th character Challenges and it should unlock.

One of a Kind
Customize your Slayer ID.
Go to Title Screen > VS Mode > Slayer ID > Change the Profile Photo or Quote. You should automatically have some available by playing through the story.
Photogenic

During the Story complete Optional Objectives, get S-Ranks, complete Special Missions, collect & view Memory Fragments to unlock more Profile Photos. They are then unlocked in the Rewards Menu. You can also keep track of how many you got under Title Screen > Archives > Profile Photos. There are 385 total in the base game without DLC, you only need 200.
Memory Lane
Collect 200 quotes.
During the Story complete Optional Objectives, get S-Ranks, complete Special Missions, collect & view Memory Fragments to unlock more Quotes. They are then unlocked in the Rewards Menu. You can also keep track of how many you got under Title Screen > Archives > Quotes. There are 341 total in the base game without DLC, you only need 200.
Audiophile
Collect 50 music tracks.
During the Story complete Optional Objectives, get S-Ranks, complete Special Missions, collect & view Memory Fragments to unlock more Music Tracks. They are then unlocked in the Rewards Menu. You can also keep track of how many you got under Title Screen > Archives > Music Tracks. There are 85 total in the base game without DLC, you only need 50.
No Panel Unturned
Unlock every panel of a single reward board.
The Reward Board is found under Title Screen > Rewards. There is one reward panel per Chapter (+1 for Prologue, +1 for Kimetsu Academy). For this trophy you must only get all Rewards in 1 of the 10 Reward Panels. The easiest option is the Prologue Panel. When you scroll over a tile on the Reward Panel it shows how to unlock the Reward. You can also buy them with Kimetsu Points, which you find in the story (golden sparkles marked on map) and from completing the Training Matches for different Characters. The Prologue Panels are very cheap to buy.

no ps4 it is impossible to get rank s in minigames (gourd minigame) in patch 1.02 (current), there is a big delay between the moment you press the button and it activates on the screen (the only solution I found for this is to press the first button twice and then hold, but after filling the green bar, it doesn’t pop the gourd)

Worked fine for me. Personally, I used wired controller setting and a 1ms computer monitor at 1080p resolution.
It’s likely input lag coming from your TV & Controller.
Use wired controller setting via USB (PS5 Settings > Accessories > Controllers > Communication Method = USB) & connect your console to a 1080p computer monitor with 1ms input lag. Most TVs have like 30ms input lag at best plus the controller bluetooth input lag. If you don’t have a computer monitor available, make sure you have your PS5 set to performance mode and 1080p max resolution, and on TV make sure that 4K / upscaling / any image processing (e.g. anti-motion blur in TV settings) is disabled to reduce the input lag. Many TVs have well over 100ms input lag with all the image processing and 4K stuff enabled. Your TV might also offer a Game Mode for reduced input lag, but in any case make sure no 4K stuff is enabled because it adds a lot of input lag compared to 1080p.

I have a 49UM6910PUA LG TV; it worked fine for the gourd smashing, but it does have a 10.3 ms due to instant game response on the TV, Along with using a wired controller (Nacon Brand).

I know what you mean, though, it was a little off in a weird way; I have played other sound based games, so I was able to do hard my first time, and on normal my second time when I figured out the rhythm, and I advise anyone else to try and learn the rhythm to it as well.

just a heads up guys. on the “Always Be Prepared” Trophy. that you have to finish 10 characters? it did not pop the trophy for me.
BUT instead i finished the 11 out 12 of them to get the trophya and got the Platinum.
so i recommend not to skip 2 instructors until you didnt get the trophy.

FWIW, I’ve had times where S Rank trophies wouldn’t pop up (generally in a scenario where I had put the console to sleep or went back to the Home Screen without quitting the game) and a sure fire fix was closing the game and loading it up again, trophies would then pop up.

I still need that last S rank on the tea mini game on hard, but one thing I’ve found to work on the bonus bosses for chapters 6-8, on top of everything that’s in the guide, is that on their first health bar, once you’ve downed a demon, you can stay close and start wailing on them right before they get back up. They’ll get hit and you’ll get free damage. This shortens the fights and the retry cycles by a lot.
Another thing I did that I found helpful was that the first time a combo connects in the fight, I’ll run the full 25ish combo, but afterwards, I’ll just chain a few normal hits with one special (typically Rengoku’s special with no directional input). I did this because with how damage decreases over a combo, I’d prefer saving energy to always have enough to start a special.

    Hey there PP!
Just worth mentioning that for “Always be prepared” you dont need to complete any optional task, just beat the instructor. I did that in both ps4 and ps5 at 1.02 version with no troubles.

Not sure what to say unless you really don’t have S rank on everything as you thought you did.

DO you need to do all the task in trainings or just beat them? do you need to points or something? I don’t see any trophies attached to it.

I had a silver on the last challenge and received left it on purpose and have the platinum. So for the training you don’t need to do the task just beat the opponent, won’t save much time since they were easy but i did reply some and was concerned of doing the task instead of finishing the round as quickly as I can.

Hey guys just got Plat (thank you for the nice guide powerpyx)

One challenge I left for last was tea splasher mini game. After multiple attempts, I couldn’t get better than an A rank. I noticed a slight delay while playing the mini game, with controller connected to ps4 via bluetooth.

Then, i tried to play with controller directly connected to my ps4 via usb cable. and i got an S rank first try.

Wanted to share in case you guys have any issue.

Easier way of getting the 25 hit combo (Most I gotten was 44 hits) was to use Rengoku like you suggested and anyone else. Build up your energy bar so you can use his ultimate art and just do the > Square, > Triangle twice (roughly 10 hits) then after the > Triangle went off, I hit my ultimate art, and it would ALWAYS connect, and his ultimate art hit for a TON of times easily over 25.

Curious, do the new DLC characters make much of a difference to the S ranks? I’ve heard Akaza is pretty broken.

So apparently, until it is fixed, All Gold Rank is glitched, at least for me locking me out of my plat. Unfortunately. Unless someone knows a hot fix or some fix, I did all of the training characters all Gold, even tried synching with the Network, resetting the console, etc and nothing
