Early in Death Stranding you may come across so called Chiral Crystals. It will say you don’t have the right equipment to pick them up. So here’s how to Get the Chiral Crystals:
- In Story Episode 2, complete “[Order No. 8] Collection: Chiral Crystals”. This is an unmissable story quest. It’s accepted from Distribution Center West of Capital Knot City.
- During this quest you get the equipment to harvest Chiral Crystals.
- This tutorial mission also makes you obtain some Chiral Crystals.
- At the end you have to Recycle them at the Distribution Center West of Capital Knot City. Then they get added to that facility so they can be used in crafting. You can retrieve them to your inventory at any time again by clicking “Claim Materials” at the terminal.
Chiral Crystals look like golden-colored hands sticking out of the ground:
Chiral Crystals are used for fabricating all sorts of equipment, for building and upgrading structures, and to power the Floating Carrier (a special carrier device that lets you ride it like a hoverboard or put extra weight on it).
They get marked when scanning for them with 
in a 100 meter radius. They show up randomly. Most frequently they are found in BT areas and during rain. Also in gas-filled chasms in Central Region they show up very frequently. Another good area to farm is west of the Craftsman in Central Region – it’s frequently raining there with BTs roaming the area, lots of Chiral Crystals tend to grow there. The bigger the crystal looks, the more grams it will give you when harvested. Another quick way to get lots of Chiral Crystals is to get caught by BTs, then kill the Catcher (big BT monster) and it will drop lots of Crystals when you defeat it.
To get a lot of crystals get caught by BTs and kill the a monster. It will drop tons of crystals.

Another tip:
Go to places where there are a lot of those black balloon-like, jellyfish-like that hovers in the horizon. Shoot them with anti-BT weapons
