Better to Light One Candle is a Main Story Mission in Days Gone. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the “Better to Light One Candle” Main Quest.
Objectives:
- Ride with Rikki
- Clear the Gas Station of Freakers
- Help Rikki Climb to Power Pole
- Protect Rikki
- Follow Rikki
Better to Light One Candle Starting Location
This mission will become available sometime after burning down the Church in Marion Forks in No Beginning and No End.
Clear Gas Station & Protect Rikki
The final step to get the electricity running again awaits! Ride with Rikki to the Gas Station to fix the transformer.
There is a small group of Freakers around which have to be killed in order to proceed. Stealth, Melee or Gunfire are equally good options here.
When approaching the Pole, one could assume that the Newts hanging on top of the roof could prove to be a problem soon…
They will indeed attack – about a dozen in total. Use for Survival Vision and to get an idea where the closest threats are.
They will attack you on the ground, as well as…
…Rikki on the Pole. When the blue Triangle shows on screen, you should lend her a hand. Or bullets, rather.
Once the enemies are taken care of, ride back to Camp with Rikki and enjoy the cutscene with the restoration of Electricity.

Ive tried this mission 3 times now and same issue, can’t get on the bike. Ive quit and tried other missions, but still cant get on the bike for those missions either, so theoretically I’m now stick and cant progress. worst game for bugs I’ve ever purchased.

I can’t even get this mission to start! It’s in theory active and I’ve definitely finished No Beginning and No End but nothing. Standing next to Rikki just says “no job available”. I’ve tried deactivating and reactivating it, restarting the game. I’ve done entire other missions for Hot Springs for 2 hours before returning to Lost Lake – still nothing. Any advice on how I get to play this mission with Rikki would be much appreciated. Cheers.
Ian says
I’ve just realised after an entire afternoon of gameplay doing other missions for other camps instead, that you have to go to outside of the Lost Lake front gate and stand in a very specific spot in a corner next to the gate opener person to get the mission start to trigger. Before I had to do this my bike had been parked right next to Rikki and the mechanic (band name?!) Wouldn’t it have made much more sense to be able walk up to Rikki, who was as usual with her bike, have an interact action to press and say something like “yo Rikki, ready to go work on that transformer then” (Deacon would probably sound way more condescending!). The mission could then start with them ride out of the camp together.
Bob says
I have the same problem, can anyone help with this
John says
Thank you Ian, I was about to give up on this mission and start a new game.
Drove up to the gate stood next to the gatekeeper and the mission triggered.
You have saved me days, thanks again.
