Borderlands 3 Side Missions Walkthrough

Here you can find Walkthroughs for all Side Missions in Borderlands 3.

Below are links to all of the Side Quests in Borderlands 3 (BL3) ordered by planets and area where they start. There are 91 Side Missions in total. None of them are missable, you can still do everything after the story in free-roam. To check how many missions per area you’ve done, press L3 / Left Stick on the world map or zoom out to Orbit to view the total completion rate. Completing all side missions unlocks the “Getting A Little On The Side” trophy or achievement. The randomly spawning kill requests from Sanctuary’s notice board are not required for the trophy so they can be skipped.

These are all side missions in Borderlands 3 (BL3). The trophy for all side missions has been unlocked and the above list is confirmed to be complete.

Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot (DLC) Side Missions

There are 10 side missions in the 1st DLC Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot. They are not needed for the “all side missions” trophy or achievement. These are just new missions you can do for fun:

  1. Hi, powerpyx have you had any issues with the ! mark disappearing off the map, it’s happened to me twice now and both times they haven’t come back

    As a example when I entered lectra city there was 4 ! marks on the map but after I got two the others where gone

    • Yes, had the same happen a bunch of times. They usually show up again when you go near the quest marker. You can see it on the fast travel map but once you load into the map it doesn’t show up. Then when you go near the quest marker it shows up again. A bit odd how they did this.
      There are also some quests that disappear entirely and I’m not sure why, whether it’s a glitch or what. I think they will all appear again after a while, maybe just some character that went to another place for story purposes until later.

    • I noticed this as well, but I noticed it the first time when you go to holy broadcast center and you find the side mission where you go into vr, it showed multiple ! marks and said “mission giver” I think what we are running into as that the game is saying you can accept the missions at multiple locations, except when you go to that are on the map the mission isn’t at that location and only at one of them, like the vr mission is accepted after killing mouthpiece.

    • Hello I know its a Day 1 bug in the Maps UI system. It will show that there is a quest mark but its probably from another map most likley from sanctuarys map.

    • Sometimes the same quest will show up in more then one location. I had 2 and hovered over both to find that they were the same quest.

    • Hi Powerpyx for some reason the final explosive is not showing up in the location in the image what do you reckon I should do? Is this a bug or not?

Hi, One question, I for some reason dont have the quest Technical NogOut, even do I have progress very far in the game, and I realised it has not popped up in my quest, even do a friend of mine (lower level that me), just reached Meridian Metropelx and the quest showed up in the map almost instantly, and fixes or the location of the quest?, any help would be greatly appriciated.

    • It’s a rare randomly appearing quest and unlocks at different times for everyone. It can spawn on a quest board in Meridien Metroplex, check that map between every main mission (it will be highlighted as a “!” exclamation mark).

  3. 2 things PP

    1) I’m concerned as I didn’t do around 3 – 4 “kill quests” on Pandora before the mission “Sanctuary” (from hologram looking things, an example of one was after I finished “Cult Following”). I hadn’t yet read the advice that side-missions can disappear, so I triggered them and intended just coming back to them as and when without knowing they’d disappear. I know you said that these SHOULD respawn, but do they respawn at the same location or could it be anywhere in that area? A nightmare if its the latter.

    2) Where on Sanctuary is the notice board? Perhaps I haven’t unlocked it yet, I’m on the mission “Hostile Takeover”, but I have been on the ship for over an hour doing random stuff and no side missions have spawned.

    • 1) They all respawn, it’s completely random. Nothing to worry about though.
      2) The quest starts (notice boards) are in the linked side mission walkthrough.

    I have one issue there is a room in the Ascension Buff which is sealed by 2 of the alien doors which I think is the last named location on Pandora for me. Then there is Eden- 6… I was everywhere and still missing something

    • I’ll release guides for the locations over the next days. The ones you are missing are just in very specific spots that are as small as your character so they are tough to find.

    • Eden-6 is by the eriden slab to the left on a sign by the water fall nortjwest kinda on the map of floodmoor basin. Pandora is the circle of slaughter. Go to konrads hold and look for the blue arrow meaning a fast travel door heading to the slaughter shaft. Promethea is the same type of door heading to cistern of slaughter.

  5. I have 95/95 mission and 223/223 location but no trophys. Did I miss something? I have 203/194 crew challenges and 57/46 quick traveling points. Wtf idk what to do?

    • The tracking in orbit is completely broken. It also shows 36/30 eridian slabs when you found them all.
      Better to go through it map by map individually to make sure you’re not missing anything.

      I’ve also had a few bug reports on various trophies so wouldn’t be entirely surprised if this is a bit glitchy (due to broken tracking).

  6. I can’t get Pandora’s top mouthpiece to show up, I’m at 97% complete on the drought and it’s the one last thing not open or available. I’m on mission “space-laser tag” and I was able to go back and do all the other stuff I missed. I’d this a case of missing side quests that will eventually reappear?

    • I’ve still seen “Pandora’s Top Mouthpiece” around after the story (in various places, e.g. on Sanctuary). It definitely reappears, no missions are missable.

  7. I have found all of the named locations on all planets, as well as visited the 3 circles and even all 6 proving grounds… still at 220/223 locations :/

PowerPyx i haven’t had a random mission pop up on the bounty board in sanctuary all game and i have now completed all the main missions and all side missions that pop up normally through normal play. is there a way to keep refreshing sanctuary to make them pop up. like maybe keep fast traveling to a different area and then back to sanctuary?

  9. Does the “Mission” overview in the Planetary or Galaxy Map also include the Sidemissions? Cause that would mean that the “Kill xy” Sidequests doenst count for the Trophy.

  10. Are the kill requests supposed reappear after you complete them?
    As every single one i have done so far has. I’ve killed Norman Bates three times now and he still is back again on the kill board. I hope this does not prevent me getting the trophy.

  12. one of the side missions is bugged for me no matter how many times I complete it. It doesn’t count towards my side mission completion it the dynasty diner at rolands rest that will not complete no matter how many times I do it.

    • The last one is “Baby Dancer” from Claptrap on the ship at the end of the game after you’ve done everything else with Claptrap, which takes you to Devil’s Razor. The repeatable burger quest isn’t the one you’re missing there.

    • One of those missions is bugged out on devils razor. I have 7/9 but have completed all 8 missions. The last is any dancer for the ninth. I should be showing 8/9

    • A lot of the area counters are bugged. For me Ambermire on Eden-6 showed 4 missions but there are only 3 there. I got the trophy anyway, it doesn’t void anything. Once they release a patch for the wrong counters it should show correctly but in the meantime even with glitched counters the trophies / achievements unlock fine.

    • Have you done the quest childhood end in konrad’s rest? It completes in devils razor, rolands rest. It counted as being in devils razor although it starts in konrads. That finally got me 9/9 for devils razor.

  13. i met a problem were i cant play claptrap side missions which they are Baby Dance and The Kevin Konundrum. the complete all side missions trophy is my last trophy to platinum and these two mission cannot be played

  14. So at the top you say there are 72 side missions, but in the orbit menu where you track them it says I’ve done 74/80. Is this bugged or I’m I still missing something? Thank you

    • Ignore the tracking in Orbit, it’s completely broken, the numbers are all wrong (based on version 1.01).
      It’s better to check the tracker map by map to see in which area you’re missing one. But even those can be glitched and show higher numbers of missions than actually exist. All a bit weird.

  17. I can confirm you do NOT need to do any of the Sanctuary rare bounty board quests for the trophy. I got the platinum without doing a single one of them (they never appeared for me).

  18. I’m only missing this trophy to get the platinum. NONE of the kill requests side missions appeared for me. And I always check the sanctuary for them. Hopefully they are not glitched !!!

    • Yes, matchmaking counts.
      I did one of them through matchmaking, one solo, and one I hosted and had someone join me. Got the trophy just fine.

  22. Last two questions PP, sorry.

    1) For the Dynasty Dash side-missions, the name of the one in Eden-6 and Pandora slightly changes when they become “repeatable” after initially beating it (i.e. Dynasty Dash: Eden-6 becomes Dynasty Dash: Floodmoor Basin). Do you need to repeat them once more (i.e. is the “repeatable” side-mission a new one, or is the name change just a bug?)

    2) I know you need to go near them to trigger unlike other side-missions, but is there still a story-based pre-requisite to trigger the “Discover X Trial” Proving Ground side-missions? In terms of story-progression I’ve just arrived at Nekrotafeyo, and “Discover the Trial of Supremacy” is the only one I can see on the map. I went near a couple of others upon returning to Pandora, and nothing triggered at all. I’ve only just received them ability to read Eridian tablets, so maybe that is what it is?

    Thanks from the community for your hard work on Borderlands 3. Unfortunately my completion is screwed until Gearbox decide to patch the platinum-equivalent on Xbox!

    have been trying to keep up with this list as I go. I’ve noticed that the only ones that do not pop up at the same times are the Proving Grounds

    • 1) I also played the repeatable versions once because they had different names and I didn’t realize they were the exact same thing until I did them. If they are mandatory for the Side Missions trophy or not I’m not sure, probably not. They didn’t add +1 to the total mission count for me. If in doubt, play them once as it only takes 5 minutes.
      2) I remember seeing a bunch of them marked on the maps upon first arrival to their respective regions. Others I had to go near to see them. Probably just glitchy. Personally, I kept them for after the story at which point they’ll all be available.

    • Thanks, PP! I intend doing Circles of Slaughter and Proving Grounds after completion, all other side missions alongside to a) level up b) not have a huge post-game slog. This helps.

  24. “Getting a little on the side” trophy glitch on me did all the side missions . I played mostly solo ,on line off line, and with friends but I think I just did my missions. It shows that I have all the missions from the list “picture” but no trophy. Any help would be great

    • Make sure you do EVERYTHING linked on the page here (including trials and circles of slaughter). Many side missions don’t show up on the in-game quest log.
      It’s also worth replaying the Dynasty Dash in Pandora & Eden-6 once.

  26. Hey I completed the proving grounds trophy and the slaughter 3000 trophy on another friends game and when I went back to mine they wasn’t even there at all not even as completed it was probably because I wasn’t even far enough into my own game but will i still earn the complete all side quests trophy even though I did complete them on my friends game? So can i just skip those slaughter and proving grounds quests on my end?

    • Going to have to cross reference the list that another user posted and PowerPyx’s screenshots/list. If one is on the list and not on your completed, you need to do it.

  28. The game says there is a mission missing on ambermire but i just checked this list and my in game completed list and they are the same

  29. I have all the side missions you mentioned above completed however when I go to Ambermire it shows only 3 out of 4 missions completed. Any update on why that is so?

    • Just a game bug, there aren’t 4 missions there. Mine also shows 3/4 and I got the trophy, other days it shows 3/3, the in-game trackers are all broken and should be ignored.

  30. Hey PowerPyx, thanks for all your work on this. I have every side mission on your list, I have the trophy for the Slaughter Shafts, but I cant get the Proving Grounds trophy. I’ve done all 6, a couple of them several times. I’ve navigated to the planet, used the drop pods and all that.
    I’m guessing that’s why my side missions trophy won’t pop?

    Any ideas of what I can do? Thanks!

    • I’d do the following:
      – Reinstalling the game (backing up save games beforehand to make sure nothing gets deleted by accident)
      – Redoing all Trials through matchmaking or by joining a friend’s session.

      If that still doesn’t pop it then no idea, seems to be bugged hard and something went wrong in the save game files. Would require a whole new playthrough with a new character then – but potentially unlockable by redoing everything in True Vault Hunter mode. Sorry to hear this bugged on you, literally the most annoying thing that can glitch out 🙁

    • Ok, thanks! I have a character about half way through my TVHM, maybe I’ll try all the trials with that one when I get there.

  32. Hi pp
    I’ve done all my side mission but i still haven’t gone my trophy
    I went and checked to see if I’ve done them all but i couldn’t see the mission”Dump on Dumptruck” in the mission list, but there’s no mark for it in tbe map and im sure I’ve done it
    I checked the missions done for pandora and it was 32/33
    What can i do

    • I haven’t heard of that specific scenario before. If you are really sure you did everything listed here but didn’t get the trophy, then what I would do is to load a save before last side mission, reinstall the game, redo last side mission and hope that triggers the trophy. Reinstalling can help with trophy bugs, but only if you got a save before the trophy trigger (in this case the last side mission). If it’s bugged hard (like stats are stuck) there’s not much you can do about it except redo the entire game. Doing Trials and Circles of Slaughter again might be worth a shot, but might also not solve anything.

  34. Did i have to do this with the Same character ? For example the Slughter Shafts, i wanna do them with my Main char and the Sidequest with my second char.
    Does this still count for the Trophy ?

    • I only tried this with 1 single character so that’s the only thing I can confirm for sure.
      I don’t think it counts across multiple chars.

  35. For the Proving Grounds please make sure to use the Bridge travel option on Sanctuary or it will not “Discover” the Trial areas and count them as complete.

  36. Hi the final explosive is not showing up at all I’ve smashed them barrel as well nothing but ammo and such has appeared. Is this a bug and if it is what do you reckon I should do?
