Borderlands 3 Secrets & Easter Eggs

September 16, 2019 by PowerPyx 17 Comments

Borderlands 3 (BL3) contains a lot of secrets and hidden easter eggs you may have missed during the story. This page contains all the Borderlands 3 Secrets we could find, including Easter Eggs and References.

This is made in cooperation with our friend Dan Allen, you can also find these Easter Eggs on Dan’s YouTube Channel.

Undertaker / WWE Wrestler – Easter Egg #1

A brilliant reference to the WWE Icon and Wrestler The Undertaker. There’s an enemy that spawns in Pandora called “Under Taker”. Not only does he have the top hat but it also has RIP engraved onto it, which of course is the Deadman’s signature catchphrase.

One Punch Man – Easter Egg #2

One Punnnchhhhh! A cheeky reference to the popular anime / manga. The One Punch Man Easter Egg is located in Lectra City on the planet Promethea. Make sure to keep your distance or else you made go down in one punch ;)

Downton Abbey – Easter Egg #3

Downton Abbey is a show based around the Crawley Family set in the 1900’s. When you come across a flying creature as part of Hammerlocks Hunting Challenges and deplete its health, it cocoons itself and then emerges with more members of the Crawley family until you defeat them all. What makes this a definitive Easter Egg is the top hats and mustaches you can see on some of the enemies and they have the same names as the characters in the  TV Show.

Game of Thrones – Easter Egg #4

Easter Egg 4 is one of my favorite easter eggs in any game. A Clear nod to the TV Series Game of Thrones, located in West of Gross (Westeros). In Eden-6 you enter a dungeon where 3 dragons appear along with the Mother of Gragons, Queen of the Sewers (a reference to Game of Throne’s “Mother of Dragons”)! Even her 3 dragons resemble the ones from the show – two fire and one ice dragon.

Rick and Morty – Easter Egg #5

A great nod to the classic TV Show Rick and Morty. As part of a kill request you must defeat “Wick and Warty”. Make your way to Lectra City and to the area shown in the video. Once there if they don’t spawn fast travel to another area and come back. Only took me a couple of attempts to get them to spawn. Also a decent Legendary shotgun can drop from them!

Power Rangers – Easter Egg #6

Easter Egg 6 is a beauty! Power Troopers AKA Power Rangers are here. They are part of the quest “Kill the Power Troopers” in Atlas HQ.

Tannis Rides A Fish Again – Easter Egg #7

Tannis Rides the Fish again, this time in the Borderlands 3 (a reoccurring easter egg from previous games)! Gearbox you’ve don it again, Bravo.

Destiny / Dinklebot – Easter Egg #8

In Destiny 1 Year 1, Peter Dinklage was the voice actor for  Ghost but was ultimately replaced by Nolan North. Since then, players have referenced Peter’s work in Destiny for Ghost as Dinklebot. He also drops a loot-o-gram which is a reference to engrams from Destiny.

Moxxi’s Tip Jar – Easter Egg #9

A tip jar on the counter at Moxxi’s bar at Sanctuary can be used to give Moxxi a cash tip. Moxxi will eventually give you weapons through mail. The weapons are unique and will always be accompanied with sexual innuendos like slippery when wet.

Norman Bates – Easter Egg #10

A nod to Norman Bates from Psycho can be found through a Random Enemy Spawn mission mid-way through the game. You can also obtain his legendary item which pays homage to the character as well.

Stranger Things – Easter Egg #11

The Demogorgon, also known as the Monster, was a predatory humanoid creature that appears in the hit Netflix show Stranger Things. One more reference to a TV show.

South Park – Easter Egg #12

This South Park reference is a callback to an iconic South Park scene of Randy Marsh.

Secret Loot Cube in Nekrotafeyo – Easter Egg #13

In the middle of the last planet “Nekrotafeyo” there’s a giant floating cube. This is one of the bigger secrets in the game and cracking it actually makes the nekrotafeyo cube drop out a ton of loot. All you must do is use every elemental damage in the game on this cube. Since this actually gives loot as a reward it’s well worth doing it yourself.

Penn and Teller – Easter Egg #14

Borderlands 3 Boss Fight Pain and Terror AKA Penn and Teller was a fantastic surprise for fans of the world class magicians and it was also great to see Penn lend his voice acting talent for the characters. A real treat for us Easter Egg hunters!

Batman / Batcave – Easter Egg #15

Just like Borderlands 2 Rakkman is back, but this time with a vengeance. Once you have progressed enough through the campaign, you may come across something very similar to the bat signal. Follow it along to a mysterious cave where you will find Rakkman AKA Batman. A clear nod to the caped crusader.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater – Easter Egg #16

Within Sanctuary you will find a nod to another classic game, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Close by to the firing range you will find a screen with Claptrap riding a Snowboard / Skateboard with the title “Borderlands Pro Racer 3”.

Claptrap Secret Disco – Easter Egg #17

A hilarious little secret in Sanctuary that all players should enjoy themselves. Claptrap…never change! Song: PiSk Swing by Robert Edwards, Little Violet & Pisk

Handsome Jack – Easter Egg #18

Handsome Jack Easter Egg, in the form of handsome Jackie who also drops a legendary weapon called an Iron-Willed Nimble Jack.

God of War – Easter Egg #19

Players can find a nod to Mimir from the 2018 hit God of War in the Nekrotafeyo planet. The boat only but confirms this further as easter egg.

Lord of the Rings – Easter Egg #20

There is a late game side mission that involves players going through an abandoned mine. Already it might seem very familiar to people who have seen the film Lord of the Rings. Once you reach a certain point you will pick up a quest object near a well and hear the sound of a skeleton falling down the well. The side mission is one big recreation of the Mines scene in Lord of the Rings.

Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde – Easter Egg #21

Once again you can hunt down this duo down by randomly obtaining them in the wanted list missions in sanctuary. A clear nod to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde the fictional characters from the 1886 novel Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Weapons– Easter Eggs #22 – 72

Here are 50 References to Movies, TV Shows, Games & more within the weapons of Borderlands 3!

You missed the Demon in the Deep sidequest easteregg, which is an 1:1 omage to lord of the rings, when they enter moria for the first time and pippin is pushing the bucket into the well.

There was also the Goonies reference where you fight a midget on the back of a another enemy and they represent slog and chunk. They both wear pirate hats so you can tell. It also might be considered a double refference because of how he rides on the back of the other guy. It might also be a BlastMaster refference from Thunderdome
