Opposition Research is a side mission in Borderlands 3 (BL3). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Opposition Research Side Quest.
Opposition Research is unlocked when you have gained access to Skywell-27 during the Space-Laser Tag.

Mission Info: An Atlas spy needs help collecting dirt on Katagawa to help disrupt the alliance of COV and Maliwan.

Starting Location: Opposition Research
Locate Spy
Head to the waypoint and go downstairs into the room with the waypoint in it. Once you enter the room this portion will auto complete.
Search Body
After the “Locate spy” portion is done you will be asked to go over to the body in the purple goo. Head over to the body and use the action button to inspect the body.
Follow Blood
After inspecting the body head to the back of the room to the bathroom stalls. where the blood is leading to:
Search toilet
Once you are in the stall use your action button to use the toilet to search it.
Take tape
When you search the toilet an ECHO Log will come flying out of the toilet amongst other pleasantries, pick up the ECHO Log.
Get Katagawa intel: 0/3
Once you take the tape you will get your first piece of intel for this mission.
Locate Spy
After gathering the first piece of intel head to the next waypoint farther ahead and head into the room upstairs at the waypoint:
Search Body
Head to the body next to the table and use your action button to inspect him.
Open locker
Head to the opposite side of the room and you will see a group of three lockers, the middle one being colored red. Walk up to the locker and Open it with your action button.
Kill interrogator
Once you open the locker sirens will go off alarming everyone of your location. The Interrogator will come after you, simply end his existence.
Take key
Once you kill The Interrogator he will lootsplode revealing a key. Pick up the key he drops for the locker.
Get tape
Head back to the locker from before and open it up with the key and the tape will be laying inside for you to pick up.
Get Katagawa intel: 1/3
Once you pick up the tape in the locker this objective will complete.
Kill Maliwan
After getting your second piece of intel head forward and get to the next waypoint where you will have to clear out a room full of Maliwan enemies.
Take tape
Once all of the Maliwan are defeated head over to the waypoint and grab the tape from the Undercover Atlas Agent.
Get Katagawa intel: 2/3
Completes once you play the tape from the Undercover Atlas Agent.
Open door to data center
Head farther down the path of the Undercover Atlas Agent and you will come to a door with the waypoint on a switch panel next to the door. Interact with this switch panel to open the door.
Use central computer
Head inside the door and straight into the data center. Head straight forward to the computer with the red screen and interact with it.
Enter password
Immediately after the talking is complete you can interact with the same computer.
Enter password
Having entered the incorrect password you will get another shot. Interact with the computer again.
Kill Maliwan
Once you enter the correct password you will be ambushed by Maliwan, do what you do best and murder everything in the room.
Kill COV
Once defeating the Maliwan you will get attacked by COV. Show them it’s not okay to be alive.
Turn on loudspeaker
Head back over to the center console and use the action button to use the computer on the left side of the control area.
Clear room
Once the loudspeaker gets turned on you will get ambushed again. Once again kill everything in the room.
Upload data to Atlas
Once everything is dead head up to the central console and interact with the computer with the waypoint on it to end the mission. You are rewarded with a unique weapon trinket (a weapon decoration).
This finishes Opposition Research side mission in Borderlands 3.

I can’t complete this side quest. My game keeps crashing every time I try to drop down the large hole toward the end of Skywell 27. I’ve tried it 8 times with no luck. Anyone else have this issue? I’m on PS4.
