How many chapters are there?
PowerPyx says
I’m not done with the story yet so not sure on number of chapters (main missions) but what I can say is that there’s 95 missions total. This can be seen when zooming out on the map (press Triangle / Y to zoom out from Map to Orbit) and then pressing L3 / Left Stick to see number of total missions, collectibles etc.
It’s probably around 20-30 Chapters (I should have the story done later today and then will have more info).
PowerPyx says
Done with story now. It’s 23 chapters (main missions) in total. So that means 72 side missions to bring it to the 95 total.
Brad m s says
Are all side missions unmissable?
PowerPyx says
Nobody has all of them yet so it’s unclear. Will add it to the page once I got all of them and know for sure. There’s still free roam after the story and nothing should be missable. I kept them for after the story and will go through everything over the next days. Some will disappear during the story and then reappear at different points in the game. And some are just rare spawns that are there one time and then take a while to reappear (particularly the kill quests from notice boards).
PhantomFear94 says
I’m finding that side missions appear on what I presume is the notice board on Sanctuary whilst I’m on planets, but when I fast travel back they disappear immediately. Hope these don’t take an age/never respawn….
Enjoying the game but randomly spawning side missions is one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard of, especially when you add an achievement for doing all side missions. If they were just for levelling, it wouldn’t be so bad.
Someone on TA suggested that they got the achievement after doing 62/72 side missions (i.e. ignoring the kill-related ones on Sanctuary) but I can’t confirm.
PhantomFear94 says
Okay, getting somewhere. I am basically crossing off your WIP list here, and the only two listed I haven’t yet seen after Kill Norman Bates and Kill Demoskaggen. Otherwise I’m more or less on track.
I also found that kill missions started spawned for me AFTER completing Hostile Takeover. Before that, I would never have any and/or they’d disappear, after completing Hostile Takeover the same ones you list seem to appear for the most part. Even though they are random, I think they are random within a certain soft-locked range.
PhantomFear94 says
Only other question – for the random spawn quests, is it enough to just trigger them but leave then in your quest log for a bit, or do they also disappear after actually starting them if you leave them long enough? I found Killavolt quite challenging at Level 14 so I intend on leaving the boss until I’m Level 20, but I know the kill-missions are usually random spawns so I’m nervous it’ll disappear. After 2 hours and a planet change its still there, so I’m hopeful as long as you start the random side quest you can just bank it for a while.
Gage says
As long as you accept them form the board they just stay in your inventory until you kill the enemy.
PhantomFear94 says
I’m pretty much on track with you by Main Mission blood drive, except Wildlife Conservation didn’t spawn after Life of the Party…should it be immediate or not?
PowerPyx says
You need to have reached Konrad’s Hold area first, as that’s where the mission takes place. It’s a little bit further into Blood Drive main mission.
PhantomFear94 says
Thank you 🙂
PowerPyx says
Mission list is all complete now. Some of the links are still being added over the next few days but all missions are on the list.
Jokke says
Great list, thanks :D. Seems that one Eden-6 side mission is missing from list: “Irregular Customers”. Typo probably.
So Circle of Slaughter missions are not in games mission list, but do you know if they still count towards trophy/chievo? And do those two repeatable missions count (maybe have to finish once?)? Adding to confusion, “kill xxx” missions are added to game menus totals, but are not valid for “Getting a Little on the Side”?
These would bring total missions to 92 (not games broken 95). Right?
PowerPyx says
Good spotting, fixed, thank you!
Circles of Slaughter only show in the mission list while they’re active, but after completion they’re not longer in the log. Because Circles of Slaughter are needed for other trophies you gotta do them anyway. Whether they’re needed for the “All Side Missions” I’m not 100% sure as I did the Circles & Trials before finishing up Side Missions. I have a friend of mine confirm this for me shortly (next couple of days). Once I know I’ll add a note to the guide but gotta do them anyway for platinum.
I also completed the two repeatable Dynasty Dash missions again. They’re probably not needed, also need confirmation on this. They only take 5 minutes though so to be safe replay them once.
And yes, the Kill Requests add +1 Mission to the total you see in Orbit. But they are not relevant for the trophy. I’m thinking only the ones that go in the mission log are actually relevant.
And turns out there are 114 missions total (23 main + 91 side). The game sometimes showed me 95 and sometimes 96 total but this is completely broken. Some area-specific counters are also broken e.g. in Ambermire it tells me there are 4 missions in the area but the game doesn’t have 4 there.
The tracking sure is a mess in this game. Hopefully next patch fixes it.
Jokke says
Nice, thanks for info :). You mean 114 when counting absolutely every mission? I.e. 23 story missions, 64 “real” side missions, 2 repeatable side missions, 3 Circle of Slaughter, 16 kill requests and 6 Proving Grounds second time (actual trial that will not appear on completed missions list)?
Uh-huh, luckily I’m enjoying game too much to have urge to rush though it, so I’ll get there somewhat later :D
PowerPyx says
Yes 114 when counting absolutely everything listed here (including non-mandatory kill requests). All of these add +1 mission to the count.
PhantomFear94 says
Hey PP. Genuine spoiler oversight I’d imagine but something to be aware of. As you’ve mentioned in its respective wiki, “Fire in the Sky” can only be done after the main mission “In the Shadow of Starlight”. However in your guide its places as a to do for the mission before, “Footsteps of Giants”
This in of itself isn’t a massive issue, it’s clear once clicking on the side-mission’s wiki page you need to wait, but it accidentally reveals a spoiler. I’ve been doing side missions as I go along exactly as you list them, to minimise backtracking. Because of this, I’ve been checking the details of side missions as and when I’m on the mission to do them. By doing so, I found out a spoiler in Fire in the Sky’s description i shouldn’t know, and if it had been in its proper place (i.e. a side mission during or after the final mission “Divine Retribution”) the spoiler wouldn’t have been there.
It’s not a big deal for me personally, I love your guides and it is what it is, but some people may not like to see spoilers that close to the end of the main story.
PowerPyx says
I’ve moved it down to “In the Shadows of Starlight”.
It’s both a follow-up to Bad Vibrations and Shadows of Starlight. But you’re right, probably better to put it under Shadows of Starlight. Thanks for your feedback 🙂
