In Black Myth Wukong you can collect the Spirits of certain enemies and bosses to unlock their skills. There are 54 Spirits in total. Collecting all Spirits is needed for the Fickle Forms trophy & achievement, but you will also need all Transformations.
To absorb Spirits you must first unlock the “Blessed Gourd”. Go to Bamboo Grove > Snake Trail, from there go up the stairs and to the right to find an old man. When you approach him, a cutscene plays and he gives you the Blessed Gourd. Bosses always drop purple spirits, regular enemies drop blue spirits. You can then press L2+R2 / LT+RT to transform into that Spirit to use its special attack. This is a very powerful attack with a long cooldown.
In case you forgot to pick up any Spirit it can still be collected from any Shrine. Any boss spirit you killed before acquiring the Blessed Gourd can still be redeemed at any Shrine.
Generally one of the best Spirits is the Wandering Wight, which also happens to be the first boss that drops a spirit. It gives you a passive +20 Defense buff (can be improved by upgrading the Spirit at Shrines). Its attack also deals massive damage in one hit and often staggers bosses.
You can fast travel between chapters at any time from Keeper’s Shrines. There’s still free-roam after the story. After the endboss you are put back in the Title Screen, here choose to Continue, it will spawn you before the final boss. You can still revisit all places from this point. Just don’t “Enter a New Cycle” in the Title Screen as this starts New Game+ and overwrites your save with no way back. All Spirits and everything else carries over into New Game+.
