Soaks are used to modify the effects of the Healing Gourd in Black Myth: Wukong. They can be added or removed from the Gourd from any Shrine. There are 26 Soaks in total (plus one extra from DLC).
You can fast travel between chapters at any time from Keeper’s Shrines. There’s still free-roam after the story. After the endboss you are put back in the Title Screen, here choose to Continue, it will spawn you before the final boss. You can still revisit all places from this point. Just don’t “Enter a New Cycle” in the Title Screen as this starts New Game+ and overwrites your save with no way back.
Collecting all Gourds, Drinks, and Soaks unlocks the Brewer’s Bounty trophy & achievement (PS5/Xbox).
Other Gourd Items:
- Luojia Fragrant Vines (Gourd Healing Upgrades)
- Awaken Wine Worms (Gourd Healing Upgrades)
- Gourds
- Drinks
Chapter 1: Black Wind Mountain
Soak #1: Gall Gem
Bamboo Grove > Marsh of White Mist: directly after this shrine defeat the next snake enemy and you’ll get a cutscene with a friendly NPC called “Shen Monkey” who will give you this automatically.
Soak #2: Tender Jade Lotus
Black Wind Cave > Cave Interior: Randomly harvested from Lotus plants. From the shrine, go right and you’ll find a Jade Lotus as soon as you step in the water. Whether this is a Tender Jade Lotus, however, is entirely random. Reloading the area doesn’t work. You must travel to another chapter and wait 30 minutes for it to respawn. So, better to focus on other things and come back here from time to time to test your luck again. You can also try other watery locations in the game, or, if possible, make a backup save before farming. On PS5 you can advance time by 30 minutes in system settings, reboot the game and the plant will respawn. Any Lotus plant can drop it, so just harvest all of them in the area repeatedly until you get it.
Chapter 2: Yellow Wind Ridge
Soak #3: Laurel Buds
Sandgate Village > Village Entrance: from the Shrine, cross the bridge and head up the rocky hills on your right to reach the village. In the village there’s a big gate that gives you access to the boss fight for this area. Face it and then check the right side where you can find this container protected by a shaman rat.
Soak #4: Steel Ginseng
Fright Cliff > Squall Hideout: Randomly harvested from Ginseng Plants. From the shrine, head to the Man-In Stone location. Right at the start of the path that leads to him is a ginseng plant you can gather. Whether this is a Steel Ginseng, however, is entirely random. Reloading the area doesn’t work. You must travel to another chapter and wait 30 minutes for it to respawn. So, better to focus on other things and come back here from time to time to test your luck again, or, if possible, make a backup save before farming. On PS5 you can advance time by 30 minutes in system settings, reboot the game and the plant will respawn. Any Ginseng plant can drop this randomly so keep harvesting them wherever you see them.
Soak #5: Iron Pellet
Fright Cliff > Squall Hideout: After completing Man-in-Stone questline, you can buy Iron Pellet from Man-In-Stone for 6480 Will.
Soak #6: Tiger Relic
Crouching Tiger Temple > Temple Entrance: after defeating “Tiger Vanguard” boss, interact with the statue in the boss arena (must also have defeated Stone Vanguard boss to use the statue). It will open a hatch on the ground. Go down this hatch to reach the cellar, continue through the cellar until you reach a sand slide you can go down on. Before sliding down, stop and look in front of you for a ledge with a table. It’s right at the start of the slide and you need to jump and perform a heavy attack mid-air to reach it. There you find the hidden container with the soak.
Soak #7: Copper Pill
Crouching Tiger Temple > Temple Entrance: after defeating “Tiger Vanguard” boss, take the path straight ahead to find this in a small golden container along the path. Where a shielded enemy and archer are.
Soak #8: Goat Skull
Secret: Kingdom of Sahālī > Sandgate Bound (see How to Reach Chapter 2 Secret Area): Random drop from harvesting “Licorice” plants. Facing the shrine, head south-west up the hill until you see a broken dragon statue on the ground. Next to it is a Licorice plant. These can act as Goat Skull plants. Whether this is a Goat Skull, however, is entirely random. Reloading the area doesn’t work. You must travel to another chapter and wait 30 minutes for it to respawn. So, better to focus on other things and come back here from time to time to test your luck again or, if possible, make a back up save before farming. There are also other “Licorice” samples in the area to try your luck on, harvest all of them in Kingdom of Sahali until you get the Goat Skull. On PS5 you can advance time by 30 minutes in system settings, reboot the game and the plant will respawn.
Chapter 3: The New West
Soak #9: Celestial Lotus Seeds
Bought from Shen Monkey NPC at Black Wind Mountain > Bamboo Grove > Marsh of White Mist. This becomes available for purchase at the start of Chapter 3. You can fast travel back to Shen Monkey from any shrine.
Soak #10: Thunderbolt Horn
Bought from Shen Monkey NPC at Black Wind Mountain > Bamboo Grove > Marsh of White Mist. This becomes available for purchase at the start of Chapter 3.
Soak #11: Stranded Loong’s Whisker
Snowhill Path > Mirrormere: From the Shrine, head right across the lake. There’s a hidden island in the back right corner of the lake with a single bent tree on it. Here’s the golden container with this Soak.
Soak #12: Breath of Fire
Bitter Lake > Turtle Island: Dropped by the boss “Cyan Loong“. This requires the Loong Scales from Chapter 2. After you got them, go to Turtle Island. To the right of this shrine, go to the back right corner of the island to find a small dragon statue sitting at the edge. When approaching it you will get a cutscene and it transforms to a living dragon, he’s this boss. Only spawns if you have the Loong Scales in your inventory.
Soak #13: Turtle Tear
Bitter Lake > North Shore of the Bitter Lake: From this shrine follow the shoreline straight ahead until you reach the end of the coast. There you will encounter the optional boss “Apramana Bat“, defeat it. Then on the left you can find a big skeleton, interact with it. This will trigger a cutscene with the big turtle island dropping a green tear. Run back up the coastline where you came from, look where the big turtle is. Below the turtle’s head you can find a green item at the coast. Pick it up, this is the “Turtle Tear” Soak.
Soak #14: Sweet Ice
New Thunderclap Temple > Temple Entrance: From this shrine take the right path, go until you walk past Monks in red robes punching a tree, go down the next staircase into an area with a 4-legged monster in the middle that shoots fire from its belly (called a “Clay Vajra” in the journal). On the side of this area, upstairs above the 4-legged monster, is a small golden container, open it.
Chapter 4: The Webbed Hollow
Soak #15: Goji Shoots
Webbed Hollow > Upper Hollow: From this shrine go up the left path to find this in the last building in the corner upstairs, in a small golden container.
Soak #16: Purple-Veined Peach Pit
Webbed Hollow > The Verdure Bridge: From this shrine take the path left and keep heading left until you get a cutscene with the lady throwing knives at lanterns. There’s a room with 5 golden treasure chests here, open them all for various items including this soak.
Soak #17: Deathstinger
Webbed Hollow > The Verdure Bridge: From Verdure Bridge take the left path over the green bridge with roots growing on it, turn left, where two lanterns are drop down the right side and go forward until you go upstairs to a village. As soon as you enter the village there will be a Scorpion enemy, defeat it for this Soak (it also drops a Spirit).
Soak #18: Bee Mountain Stone
Temple of the Yellow Flower > Mountain Trail: From the Shrine go up to the next area and upstairs (past the first enemy in yellow clothes), then turn left to find this in a golden turtle container. Just before reaching a temple with two yellow-robed guards in front of it.
Soak #19: Fruit of Dao
Temple of the Yellow Flower > Court of Illumination: Kill the two monks down the stairs just before this shrine. Entirely random drop, must kill them repeatedly until they drop it. You can respawn them by resting at the shrine.
Soak #20: Undying Vine
Purple Cloud Mountain > Valley of Blooms (see How to Reach Chapter 4 Secret Area): From this shrine go across the bridge and head left. Continue up the path and you’ll find a Verdant Glow enemy (a tree that becomes alive when you get to close with red foliage). You must farm this enemy over and over again for this rare drop. It’s entirely random when the enemy drops it. You can rest at the shrine to respawn the enemy.
Soak #21: Double-Combed Rooster Blood
Dropped by Duskveil boss at the end of the Chapter 4 Secret Area “Purple Cloud Mountain”. See How to Reach Purple Cloud Mountain. Once you reach this area, take the central path and go through the village upstairs until you reach this boss at the end of the area.
Chapter 5: Flaming Mountains
Soak #22: Mount Lingtai Seedlings
Woods of Ember > Camp of Seasons: From this shrine go over the next bridge, then continue until you go over another bridge. Continue up the main path to find a golden turtle container on the right. It’s on the main path and in plain sight, hard to miss.
Soak #23: Slumbering Beetle Husk
Furnace Valley > The Emerald Hall: After beating the Yin-Yang Fish boss, this will be in the Emerald Hall on the left side, in a golden turtle container.
Soak #24: Flame Mediator
Field of Fire: Random drop by ‘Searing-Fire’ enemies, they look like big walking lava rocks. You can find them throughout the Field of Fire area. Any of these enemies can drop it so just kill all of them you see, rest at shrine to respawn them, kill them repeatedly until they drop this. From me it dropped from such an enemy directly after Ashen Pass III where the big spiked ball rolls. If you already advanced past this the ball will go away, in that case you can farm this enemy anywhere else. For example directly after ‘Cooling Slope’ shrine you can find such an enemy.
Chapter 6: Mount Huaguo
Soak #25: Flower Primes
Bought from Shen Monkey NPC at Black Wind Mountain > Bamboo Grove > Marsh of White Mist. This becomes available for purchase at the start of Chapter 6.
Zodiac Village
Soak #26: Graceful Orchid
Given to you by Chen Loong when you’ve found and brought him all 15 Seeds. See How to Reach Zodiac Village.
New Game+
Soak #27: Guanyin’s Willow Leaf
Bought from Shen Monkey in New Game+.

I think you may be missing a soak, I have one called laurel buds. I can’t remember when i acquired it, pretty sure it was in chapter 2.
Citrus says
You obtain it from the Licorice gathering spots in Chapter 2. So there are 3 exclusives Soaks which are Rare drop from gathering, 1 from Lotus Jades, 1 from Ginseng and the last is the aforementioned Licorice gathering.
Sunny says
Flame Mediator can, in fact, be obtained if the rock enemies are killed by the rolling ball.
I just obtained one by an enemy killed by the ball.

I am day 3 999 licorice…farming in the sand kingdom using the back up method. No goat skull yet am I doing it wrong or did the dev make horrid rng. I haven’t been questioning whether its just me or others are having this issue. Bug or just bad luck
Bucky says
Have been grinding Steel Ginseng for hours and hours farming the Towers of Karma route, can get about 8 ginseng in 1minute before forwarding console time by an hour.
Last soak I need for the platinum but this is proving to be a TOUGH grind.
Any better ideas or is this just pure RNG hoping it drops eventually?
Zen says
I have all the 27 soaks but didn’t get the achievements, is there something special to do ?
