Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Taking Root Walkthrough

Taking Root is a Main Quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (ACV). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Taking Root Quest.

Reward: Root of a Mountain (Quest Item)
Mission Info: Ivaldi requires the root of a mountain to forge the magical cord, Gleipnir.

Collect the Root of a Mountain

The quest is automatically started when you have to go to Ivaldi’s Forge in Chapter 3 of Asgard (part of the main questline, unmissable). You get 2 new quests from Ivaldi in your quest log “Taking Root” & “A Feline’s Footfall“. There will also be some hints for each quest in your inventory under the quest items.

Make sure to track the quest in your quest log. Then head to the highest mountain of Asgard, it’s the south-west viewpoint of Asgard:

From the top of the viewpoint, jump into the haystack below (a short 5 meter drop). The root will be in front of the haystack. You can press / to scan for it (shows a blue highlight around it).

Riddle Solution:

1. First you must interact with the “Seed” (stone) in front of the haystack.
   
2. Select the torch from your item wheel (hold ), then throw it at the haystack to make it burn. This will burn the Seed in front of the haystack.
   
3. Pick up the Seed, carry it to the edge of the cliff. Hold / to aim and / to throw it down into the pond below.
   
4. Jump down after it into the pond. The Seed will now have grown into the quest item you need to pick up.
   

Upon picking it up the quest will end.

This finishes Taking Root quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (ACV). You must also do the quest A Feline’s Footfall to get the remaining material for Ivaldi.
