Assassin's Creed Shadows Topple the Traitor Walkthrough

Topple the Traitor is the 65th main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Topple the Traitor main mission.

Quest Description: Akechi Mitsuhide betrayed his superior, Oda Nobunaga, as the mastermind behind the Honnoji incident.

Meet Hideyoshi

To track Topple the Traitor, navigate to the Objectives Board. Scroll to the Shinbakufu group and select the quest in the Akechi Mitsuhide thumbnail.

Hideyoshi’s camp is down the road from Oyamazaki Village. Follow the river to get there.

After a short conversation with Hideyoshi, you get a confirmation to begin the mission:

[Let’s go.]
[We need more time.]

You must choose “Let’s go” to progress the story.

After a cutscene, you get an opportunity to choose your character.

Assassinate Mitsuhide

The end goal is to reach the building directly across from the area. As Yasuke, fight your way through the enemies until you reach the castle.

As Naoe, the easiest route is to turn left and run along the outside wall.

When you reach the castle proper, use your grappling hook to climb up to the first roof.

Go to the south side and look over the edge. There is an opened window.

Drop down to the window and enter the castle.

Right in front of you is a staircase ladder going down. Go down to progress the story.

Next, you take control of Yasuke. You can jump on the horse at the bottom of the stairs if you want. Either way, Mitsuhide cannot get away from you.

Also, even though you can shoot from a horse, you cannot hit him with projectiles while chasing him.

He eventually stops at the dock at Oyamazaki Village.

This man plays dirty. Regularly, he blows up sand in your face followed immediately by a charged heavy attack. This is choreographed by him raising his sword up with both hands kind of slowly.

The sand itself does a ton of damage. If you get caught by both skills, you basically die.

Also, if you see him block your attacks with a fancy move, dodge away immediately. He will follow up with a heavy attack.

The one tip is to keep moving to one side. It makes his dirt kick almost useless. That skill needs you directly in front of him to work. So, don’t stand in one place for too long.

When you eventually break his armor, Naoe replaces you.

It’s worth mentioning that if you die before Naoe appears, then the last checkpoint sends you back to when Mitsuhide started fleeing.

In this phase, he attacks much, much faster. If you can get the hang of his fast attacks, then he is pretty simple, since Naoe is so much faster than Yasuke. However, if he gets one or two hits on you at all, you’re done.
