Assassin’s Creed Shadows The Hunters of Kyonyo Locations & Walkthrough

March 30, 2025 by Timmberelli Leave a Comment

The Hunters of Kyonyo is a side quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Hunters of Kyonyo mission including The Hunters of Kyonyo member locations. There are 5 members of The Hunters of Kyonyo total which you must defeat as part of the quest.

  • Region: Kii
  • Questboard Category: People of Kii > Kennyo > The Hunters of Kyonyo
  • Questgiver: Kennyo
  • Requirement: Becomes available during Act 3, possibly must have unfogged the area around the quest marker for it to show up
  • Recommended Level: Level 44
  • Reward: 5500 XP, 2 Skills: Naoe skill “Enhanced Impact” (Kusarigama) & Yasuke skill “Disabling Strike” (Naginata)
  • Quest Description: A group of bounty hunters spread across Kii are targeting Kyonyo.

Assassinate the bounty hunters

Speak to Kennyo identified by the “!” icon at Kii > Neogroji > Fudo-do Temple. Then, track this quest from the Objectives Board. Scroll to the People of Kii and select the quest below Kennyo.

Immediately, only one member of the bounty hunters is visible on the Objectives Board. With that said, if you found some of these bounty hunters in your travels, they will appear here.

Bounty Hunter Member 1: (Inumaru) The Ambusher

Rewards: 2 Mastery Points, Mending Bond (Epic Katana), Armor Piercing with Ability (Engraving), 305 Mon

Investigate the ambush site

Location: Kii > Nakahechi Route

A sole ronin waits for you at the ambush site. Take him out.

You automatically collect the quest item “Come to Yunomine” once you defeat the ronin.

Assassinate Inumaru

Location: Kii > Kumano Sanzan > Yakushi Onsen

Find this spot on the hill west of Yakushi Onsen. From here, pick off the two enemies next to Inumaru with your kunai.

Inumaru then walks up the hill toward you. Take him out there.

Inumaru automatically grants you the quest item “Letter from Inumaru.”

Bounty Hunter Member 2: Kamakichi (The Spy)

Rewards: 2000 EXP, 2 Mastery Points, Whip of the Deserter (Epic Kusarigami), To the Leader (quest item), 250 Mon

Find the spy’s hideout

Location: Kii > Saika

Head into the hideout and interact with the three objects inside.

  • Journal Entry One
  • Journal Entry Two
  • Journal Entry Three

Assassinate Kamakichi

If it’s nighttime, look for Kamakichi in Kii > Saika > Monk Houses. He wanders around there.

If it’s daytime, find Kamakichi in Kii > Saika > Saika Market right out in the open.

Bounty Hunter Member 3: Shishi-o (The Interrogator)

Rewards: 2000 EXP, 2 Mastery Points, Traitor’s Bargain (Epic Tanto), Health on Kill (Engraving), 355 Mon, Training Advice to Shishi-o (quest item)

Talk to Kyonyo

Location: Kii > Saika > Saika Temple Grounds.

Approach the temple grounds from the south and hop the wall.

Look for this hole and climb down it to find Kyonyo.

Next to him are two letters, “Update from Koyasan” and “Kennyo is at Negoroji.”

Assassinate Shishi-o

Location: Kii > Kumano Sanzan > Kumano Nachi Taisha Temple

He’s interrogating three people just west of the Kumano Nachi Taisha Temple

Bounty Hunter Member 4: Toro (The Shinobi)

Rewards: 2000 EXP, 2 Mastery Points, Call of Koyasan (Epic Bow), Adrenaline on Consecutive Hits (Engraving), 351 Mon

Talk to the guard

Location: Kii > Koyasan

NOTE: The Shinobi can only be found at night.

Talk to the guard looking over the dead body.

Talk to the head monk

Head to the Monks’ District in Koyasan just west of you.

The head monk stands outside the gate of the Monk’s District.

Set up the ambush

Follow the head monk into the Monks’ District.

When he goes into the house, interact with the note on the table in the center of the house.

Then, talk to the head monk.

Find all 4 of the lit lamps in the building and extinguish them.

If the 4 lamps do not appear as quest markers, then you need to wait until nighttime. It takes about 30 minutes of actual game time before daytime turns to night. There is no way to fast forward time, unfortunately.

Assassinate Toro

When all four lights are out, Toro makes his approach on the house.

Follow his movement using Eagle Vision and find an assassination vantage point.

Bounty Hunter Member 5: Tsuchi-Gumo (Bounty Hunter Leader)

Rewards: 2000 EXP, 2 Mastery Points, Flowing Peace (Legendary Long Katana), Health Segment on Armor Break (Engraving), 250 Mon

Talk to Kyonyo

Location: Kii > Iseji Trails

NOTE: Tsuchi-Gumo trains alone during the day. You can still take him out at night, but he has plenty of enemies around him.

Interact with Kyonyo.

Assassinate Tsuchi-Gumo

Follow Kyonyo. You need to manually follow him this time.

When you reach a cliffside, you get a dialogue choice:

  • [I’m going alone.]
  • [Let’s go together.]

The only difference between these two options is immediately after this cutscene. Kyonyo and his allies surge the first area of the castle, then disappear when the first round of enemies are dispatched. Logistically, this draws attention to the entrance. Either go in and fight with them or let them distract the enemies while you sneak in elsewhere.

Choosing to go alone makes this slightly easier, especially during the day. Either way, Tsuchi-Gomo is in relatively the same place. He just ends up outside during the day.

You can go to the west side of Akagi Fort and find this spot to climb into it.

During the day, he trains outside the same building. He still has enemies around him, so it’s not much easier during the day.

Talk to Kyonyo and Kennyo

Find Kyonyo and Kennyo just south of you by the road.

This finishes The Hunters of Kyonyo in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
