Introduction
Welcome to the Arise: A Simple Story Trophy Guide! Arise is the moving tale of an old man who gets magically reawaken after his death to relive through the bittersweet events that have shaped his life and his partner’s. It is an emotionally dense journey during which their memories will come alive and time bends to your will. A journey of joy and pain, of happiness and suffering, through which you will learn yourself how life can be beautiful but also unforgiving.
The gameplay in Arise is rather simple: you need to make use of your time-bending skills to get through fairly linear levels and their platforming challenges. Each level can give you up to three trophies: one for completing it, one for picking up its Collectibles, and one for taking on a specific challenge, whether it be passing through specific objects, or completing the level without being hurt or dying. The latter ones are by far the most difficult trophies in the game which, with enough practice and knowledge of the layouts, will become a bit less painful as you reach Step 3.
One more thing: nothing is missable and you can replay levels as many times as you want by holding in the Limbo (the snowy mountains that serve as the level select screen) next to a level’s statuette to replay it.
Step 1: Play through the Story while getting all Collectibles
Your first step is simple. Just play through this amazingly well-written story and refer to the Collectibles Guide to get all Collectibles during your main playthrough. Don’t worry about the hardest trophies just yet. It’s better to first get a feel of these levels’ layout and what you’re supposed to do in each one of them before attempting these challenges.
Step 2: Collectibles mop-up (optional)
During this step, get any Collectibles you may have left behind and take advantage of this optional step to familiarize yourself even more with the hardest levels. Collectibles save as soon as you pick them up, so you can exit a level as soon as you’ve gotten what you need.
Step 3: Take on the hardest trophies
This will be the hardest step on your way to unlock the Platinum trophy. Level 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are by far the most challenging ones, each of which requires you to get through the level by either not stepping on specific platforms, getting hurt/touched, or dying. Getting through these levels unscathed will be quite challenging, simply because restarting checkpoints doesn’t work in case you misstep or get hurt. This is why it’s suggested to get through these challenges once you’re very familiar with these levels’ layouts. By this step, if you’ve followed this roadmap, you should know them quite well. With practice and patience it’s not too bad.

Gone with the wind Touch 200 dandelions |
||
In Level 1 – She: you can see white dandelions on the various small islands when the level is in its spring form. To unlock this trophy, simply walk through them and they’ll release their petals. Normal white flowers don’t release petals and stepping through them doesn’t count for this trophy. It has to be dandelions only. If you’re thorough, you should unlock this trophy when you get to the fourth island.
Bubble addict Explode 100 dew drops on Level 2 |
||
In Level 2 – Joy: there are dew drops spread around the level. As you progress through it, explode all the ones you can reach by walking through them. Restarting checkpoints won’t respawn the dew drops, but don’t worry as there’s plentiful. If you’re thorough, you should unlock this trophy halfway through the level.
Bushman Step on 50 passable bushes on Level 3 |
||
In Level 3 – Away: there are bushes you can walk through. As you progress through the level, walk through any bush you see and you should unlock this trophy towards the end of the level. It should be noted that progress doesn’t reset if you replay the level. This means that if you have walked across, say, 40 bushes, on your first run through the level, you just need to walk across 10 when you replay it.
Sorrow Finish level 4 without being touched by a single sorrow |
||
In Level 4 – Alone: this level takes place in a dark forest during a thunderstorm. In order to unlock this trophy, you need to make it through the forest without being touched by the sorrows (the dark figures surrounding the forest). Getting touched voids this trophy and restarting the checkpoint doesn’t work. This means that if you get touched even once you need to restart the level from scratch. The only way you’re allowed to die is by falling or drowning. If for some reason you’re about to be touched by a sorrow, quickly hit and restart the checkpoint. This trick won’t void the trophy.
To prevent the sorrows from getting to you and make it across the level, you need to rewind and fast-forward time to make lightning bolts appear and stop it when they appear with . By doing so, the sorrows will vanish and you’ll have more room to progress. However, you cannot always rely on bolts. Sometimes you just need to be quick and rush through the sorrows if you see even a small gap among them and lightning bolts cannot be summoned. Remember that jumping from a high place slows you down and slowing down time doesn’t work on sorrows. It is suggested to take care of this trophy when you’ve already played the level once for the story and maybe a second time for the Collectibles. By doing so, you will have familiarized yourself with the level well enough to tackle it without too many problems. If you’ve done everything correctly, this trophy will unlock when you see the light of day again and the subsequent cutscene starts playing. |
||
Purple hater Finish level 5 without stepping on a single purple flower |
||
In Level 5 – Romance: you need to use time on lily pads in order to make it across the level. The lily pads come in three colors: green, fuchsia and purple. You’re allowed to step on the green and fuchsia ones, but NOT on the purple ones. This means that sometimes you may have to play with time in order to create a path that allows you to step on the right ones. You can’t step on the purple ones. If for some reason you’re about to land on purple lily pads, quickly hit and restart the checkpoint. This trick won’t void the trophy. If you’ve done everything correctly, this trophy will unlock upon starting of the final cutscene.
Important: Towards the end of the level, you’ll have to step on many lily pads (some of which are also purple) to make it across a big waterfall. When the lily pads stop you’ll have to use some wind swirls to reach the area at whose end is a dancing statue. If you somehow die in the water while using the wind swirls, the game will create a checkpoint that is on top of a purple lily pad, thereby voiding this trophy. So, be careful not to die in this section of the level. |
||
Bouncer Perform 100 jumps on jump pads on Level 6 |
||
In Level 6 – Fruit: you need to use time to lower and raise some platforms that will allow you to go higher and higher. After a brief cutscene in which the man is building what resembles a crib, you’ll have to make it even higher by using bouncing pads. To unlock this trophy, you need to perform a total of 100 jumps on said pads. Given that there’s nowhere as near as 100 jumping pads in the level, it is suggested to perform 100 jumps on the same pad as soon as you step on the first one. Just note that in order for the jump to count it needs to be a long one and not a short one. To perform a long jump, you need to press when you touch the pad.
Fire safety Finish level 7 without touching fire once |
||
In Level 7 – Ashes: you need to make it through the level without touching the fire even once, and without being killed by it. You’re allowed to die by falling and from sorrows here (only being touched by fire voids the trophy). When you’re touched by fire, the screen will quickly flash red. Just like in Level 4, restarting checkpoints doesn’t work.
To make it across the level, you need to use your time-bending skills to control the fire. When you do, it is suggested to hold to move fire much more slowly. Without holding , fire moves a lot more quickly, thereby increasing the risk of touching you. The tricky part is when you hang from a rope and need to reverse time to reveal a rambler bridge. As you reverse time, the rambler will lower but fire will come near you, making it easier for you to touch it. This is why you need to swing with and manage time with your . It may take some time for you to get this right and if you keep struggling a smart way to go about this section is to ask a friend to help you out with a second controller, so that you don’t have to manage time as well as you swing. If you’ve done everything correctly, this trophy will unlock when the last cutscene begins. Important: The fire’s hitbox is a little glitchy and sometimes you’ll be touched by it even if you’re visibly not close to it. To avoid this, make sure, when possible, that fire is not exactly an inch away from you, but a bit farther. |
||
Gravity master Finish level 8 without dying |
||
In Level 8 – Solace: you need to make it through a space-looking setting in which you’ll have to piece together floating platforms to create paths forward. To be able to unlock this trophy, you’re not allowed to die, which means that you need to avoid falling into the void or drowning during the lily pad section of the level. There’s a way to make this trophy a bit easier: if for some reason you feel like you’ve missed jump, quickly hit and restart the checkpoint. This trick won’t void the trophy. If you’ve done things correctly, this trophy should pop after piecing the last two floating platforms together.
Warm guy Finish level 9 without dying of cold |
||
In Level 9 – Old: you’ll get through snowy mountaintops. To get across the level, the main thing you need to do is lower or raise the snow levels, allowing you to get to otherwise unreachable ledges. However, it’s not going to be that easy as the weather in this level is devilishly cold and it can kill you. To prevent this from happening, you need to take shelter near sources of heat, which in this level are lanterns. There are many lanterns across the main path, which make this level the least challenging of the hardest ones. You’re allowed to drown and fall, but you cannot die of cold. This is how you can die of cold: as you step away from lanterns, you’ll notice your screen starting to freeze at the corners and your heartbeat slowly increasing (vibration of the controller). You do not want the whole screen to go frozen or the heart to stop beating, otherwise you will have died of cold and this trophy won’t unlock. There’s also a way to make this trophy even easier: if for some reason you feel like you’re about to die, quickly hit and restart the checkpoint. This trick won’t void the trophy. If you’ve done everything correctly, this trophy will unlock when the last cutscene starts.
Caring partner Finish level 10 without dying |
||
In Level 10 – Hope: you’ll have to follow a light through some ice caves. You can control the light in the same way you have been controlling time. To unlock this trophy you need to make it to the end without dying. There are two ways to die in this level: by falling and by becoming a sorrow. The latter is the result of the light being away from you for too long. Make it a point to always have the light next to you, illuminating your path. Quickly restart the checkpoint if you feel like you’re about to die because the light is taking too long to reach you, or you’ve gone off the story path, or you’re falling. Restarting the checkpoint just before dying won’t void the trophy.
Always together Activate co-op play |
||
Arise can also be played with a friend in local co-op play. To activate co-op play and unlock this trophy, you can use a second controller if you own one. Otherwise, ask a friend to help you out through the PS4 SharePlay feature. Once the game loads, activate a guest user with the second controller and then go back to the game’s main menu by pressing and Back to Main Menu. Once you’re back at the Main Menu, the trophy will unlock. |

Thanks for the guide Franci. What did you think of the game? Looks wonderful.
FranciRoosters says
The game was seriously one of the best of 2019. Solid gameplay, a tear-jerking story, and a moving soundtrack. A life lesson.
PhantomFear94 says
Well now I HAVE to buy it. Thanks for the work on this one.
FranciRoosters says
My pleasure!
rockhopper78 says
Thanks for the guide. I plan to get this game later tonight. I know you say restarting checkpoints doesn’t work for the difficult trophies. Does backing up saves work?
Like if I get through a challenging part or halfway through level, can I quit out. Back up save to cloud or usb and if I mess up just redownload save instead of having to play whole level again?
FranciRoosters says
You cannot restart a level when you play it for the first time. When you replay the levels and you mess up where you shouldn’t, quickly quitting out to the pause menu and hitting Restart Checkpoint doesn’t void chapter-specific trophies. As for back-up saves, I haven’t tested it, but it may work since saves are checkpoint-based.
Semele_Siuan says
Can confirm getting the Always Together trophy through SharePlay option, I didn’t have a second control so my sister agreed to help using SharePlay and after going to the main menu the trophy unlocked.
FranciRoosters says
Thank you for your feedback!
Woozy045 says
How do you use the shareplay feature? Does someone just have to takr over the controler or what do you mean?
PowerPyx says
You need to make a PSN Party Chat, invite a 2nd online player. In top right corner of party it will say Shareplay. This gives the other player the chance to accept your shareplay and play with you remotely over the internet. It’s a PSN feature that every game has built-in.
Woozy045 says
Oh I never knew they could actually play too, thanks!
Michael Sage says
The Fire Safety trophy is seriously irritating. I must have played through it at least 20 and still no trophy. It’s my last trophy and don’t know were I’m going wrong.
Travis M Bruno says
So just in case someone else is pulling their hair out. I’m 100% sure that I did the Sorrow trophy multiple times But never received it until I had a complete run with NO DEATHS on top of not being touched by a sorrow. Now it’s possible that Somehow I am mistaken and every “successful” run I had up until the point was actually one in which I was touched but i doubt it. If you think you’re doing it correctly but aren’t getting it, try combining it with no deaths as well and see if that works out.
Michael Sage says
I’m having the same issue with the Fire Safety trophy, after 40+ attempts it still won’t pop. If I had any hair to pull out I would have done so long ago.
FranciRoosters says
Seems like lots of you are having trouble with this trophy. As I said in the guide, the fire’s hitboxes are bit glitchy. Instead of keep trying, I’d drop a line to Piccolo Studio to let them know about the issue.
Hotspot320 says
Great Guide/Roadmap as always and although I’m playing on Xbox and most of you guys are playing on PS4, I’d like to ask if you’re having problems with the “Perfect Love” Throphy like me.
suwerenny says
Thank you! Great trophy guide. However I want to warn you all that co-op mode can glitch your trophies so that they won’t pop up. What I recommend is to get this trophy at the very end. I did this ealier at the beginning of the 10th level by using my second controller. Then I logged out 2nd player and finished the level. I should get 5 trophies by finishing this level – two rewarding me for finishing both the game and the level, another 2 for getting all collectibles of the level and the whole game and last one for not dying. Reset of the game sadly helped me to get 3 of missed trophies. Now I have all collectibles collected through the game and no trophy. Same with not dying at level 10th challenge (tried again and nothing).
Christine says
I can also confirm that co-op can glitch trophies. Me and my partner started this game earlier, with him logged in on a guest account. The trophy for starting the game in co-op popped, but only for my account.
As we continued to play through, we noticed other trophies weren’t popping. We thought maybe they would pop after beating the level, but after doing so, the trophy for beating the first level didn’t pop. I went to my trophies, but it showed the game as 0% and wasn’t syncing trophies (despite the co-op trophy having popped). Looking at the trophies through the quick menu, they were greyed out and unselectable.
We closed the game and booted it up again. Upon loading my save, all the trophies that were meant to pop, popped at once. Just for me, again. As we progressed through the 2nd level, we got a trophy (the one for getting 100 dewdrops) which popped for both my account, AND the guest account, and all trophies we earned after that point did the same.
So I assume the first few trophies were meant to pop for the guest account, but for whatever reason, got “stuck” somehow, which also made them “stuck” for me. Co-op definitely seems a little glitchy in regards to trophies, so it may be best to avoid to minimise any risk of trophies not popping when they’re supposed to, or sadly, not at all as is in your case.
