The Apprentice is Chapter 4 in A Plague Tale: Innocence. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of Chapter 4 “The Apprentice”.

Reach Laurentius’s Farm
Amicia and Hugo managed to escape the rat-infested crypts and are now one step closer to the Laurentius’s farm, the alchemist.
Before heading down the main trail, we need to make a brief detour for a collectible (Curiosity 7 – Hermetic Vessel). From the start of the chapter go down off the trail to the right, then continue forward past the dock until you come across a tree stump. Sitting next to it is the collectible.
Now we’re ready to continue. Go back to the main trail and continue on until you see some grass. From here a kind of a lengthy stealth section starts. Remain hidden in the grass a throw a rock to the armour pieces inside the chest to attract the guard nearby. When the guard walks back to his station, you’re free to go.
Continue downhill and hide behind some logs to distract the next guard. You should have a pot in your inventory. Use it to distract the guard, so that he takes the opposite direction you need to take. If you don’t have a pot, slingshot him in the head from behind so that he doesn’t see you.
For the next section, remain hidden in the grass and throw a rock to the scarecrow-looking vane to distract the guard and then instruct Hugo to walk to and crawl through the hole in the house opposite you so he can open the window and let you in. As Hugo walks to the hole, make your way to the next bush behind a wooden ledge.
Then, throw another rock at the vane to distract the guard one more time and make your way inside the house.
Once you and Hugo are inside the house, grab a pot from one of the shelves and use the hole in the wall to throw it in order to distract the nearby guard and continue unspotted.
Next, stay hidden in the grass and wait for the next guard to pass until he’s on the bridge.
Then, feel free to continue to the next section. Here, a guard will come up and down the stairs leaving you enough time when he goes back to his station. Alternatively, you can knock him down with a rock.
Next, take the pot from the barrel and throw it to distract the guard and jump over the ledge with Hugo.
You will then reach an orchard. Here Hugo will want to play hide-and-seek and this is where we can unlock the chapter-specific trophy Found!. You need to sneak up on and find Hugo before he finds you using :square:. Use the pictures below for the right path to take.
While we’re here, we need to pick up a collectible (Gift 4 – Diary of An Alchemist) that is found by a wooden boat on the lake shore.
Next, continue on by entering the building next to the pigs and then out the window.
Coming up is a large cornfield section during which you will have be quiet and use stealth as much as you can. Start by throwing a pot to distract the first guard.
Then, move to the next cornfield and as the walking guard approaches the standing guard, throw a rock at the vane to distract both of them and continue behind the haystack and hide in the next patch of grass.
If necessary, throw another rock at the vane to distract both guards one more time before moving on. Then, go hide behind a fence as shown in the picture.
Use the same tactic: throw a rock at the vane to distract the guard close to it and another rock at the pieces of armour to distract the guard in front of you.
When the way is safe, move behind a haystack as shown in the picture and then in the next cornfield.
Now, we have the last three guards to sneak past. The first two guards have the same walking pace and can be sneaked up on when they both turn their backs on you.
In the next cornfield, wait for the guard with the lantern to walk in the opposite direction as you and continue when it’s safe.
If you follow this path the third and final guard won’t spot you and you’re free to continue under the archway and up the opening.
As you make your way to the farm, Hugo will suffer from another fit to his head. He’s getting weaker and Amicia volunteers to shoulder him.
As you approach the farm, swarms of rats will come out of the ground. For the first part of this area, run from torch to torch.
Then, we there are no torches left, use the pictures to circumnavigate the big puddle of mud and then climb up the wall.
Now, equip a rock to destroy the chain and have the rats killed by carcasses of pigs.
Continue on until you find some sticks. Grab one and use the torch shown in the picture to light it and create a path to the firewood to light this one, too.
Take another stick and keep going until you come across a cart with a brazier on it. Light the brazier and start pushing the cart uphill until you get to the farm’s gate.
We’re finally safe!
Find Laurentius
Before entering Laurentius’s house, there’s something we need to get. Behind the house is a collectible (Herbarium 2 – Aquilegia), so grab that.
Feel free to explore and grab materials if you want. When you’re done, enter the house from the open window.
Inside the house is another collectible (Curiosity 8 – V.I.T.R.I.O.L) that we need to pick up. Go up the stairs and enter the last door on the left. Inside the room, on a table is the Curiosity.
Now retrace your steps and open the first door on your right to find Laurentius and his apprentice, Lucas. Laurentius has been infected by the plague and Lucas warns us to keep our distance. Laurentius somehow knows the reason the Inquisition hunted Amicia’s and Hugo’s family, but he doesn’t share his knowledge with us. Laurentius suggests Hugo, Amicia and Lucas they disappear to Chateau d’umbrage, a safe castle, to avoid the Inquisition and further swarms of rats, but before departing Lucas has to finish crafting the Ignifer. Amicia will help him for a new and useful weapon in her arsenal.
Enter Laurentius’s Laboratory
Follow Lucas out of the room. Meanwhile, a horde of rats has found its way into the house. Destroy the lantern by the wheel and then shoot the hams down to attract the rats to them.
While the rats are busy devouring the hams, seize the opportunity to leave the house and follow Lucas into the barn. The place is crawling with rats, so you must find another way to get in.
Follow Lucas to a bag of feed. This will attract the pig inside the barn. Yes, that’s exactly what’s going to happen to the poor pig. Lucas will shut the pig in and lead us to a ladder in the back of the barn that we will use to climb inside.
Once you’re inside, get closer to the lantern to shoot them down. With no light in their way, the rats will scurry to the pig and eat it alive. This has cleared the way for us though.
Climb down the ladder and approach the hatch. Lucas will open it for us. Now we’re inside Laurentius’s laboratory.
Grab the Materials for Lucas
For this next objective, you simply need to explore the room and pick up the ingredients needed to make Ignifer: sulfur and alcohol. You may already have the ingredients in your inventory. When you’re done, talk to Lucas for a brief tutorial on the mechanics of the Ignifer.
Light the Embers with Ignifer
As soon as you’ve created your first Ignifer, the room will be invaded with more rats. To scare them away, equip Ignifer from your inventory and aim at the embers in the center of the room.
Go Back to Laurentius
Time to get back to Laurentius. Retrace your steps by climbing up the ladder and then use Ignifer to ignite the firewood to create a safe area amongst the rats.
As Amicia apologises to Hugo for her rude manners from earlier, Laurentius’s farm catches fire and is invaded by new swarms of rats. No time to dawdle. Time to escape.
Flee from Laurentius’s Farm
Use the haystacks to run and use Ignifer to set them on fire when in need to create a pathway.
Use the embers on the mill sails to continue on and move when the sails are closer to the ground.
Keep running like hell until you reach a boat. Once you escape the rats and reach the boat, Chapter 4 will end.

This took a few goes to succeed. You have to get the line of your run right to escape the rats with a zigzag at the end to escape the last few. Also hold the trigger to keep running. Pumping the trigger slows you down.
