Find Help
Amicia and Hugo managed to flee the estate thanks to Beatrice’s sacrifice. However, Hugo doesn’t know it yet and Amicia is trying to protect him from the bitter truth. There’s a village nearby. Time for Amicia and Hugo to find help. Make your way through the foliage and when you get to the market, head to a nearby dock to find a collectible (Gift 2 – Amulets and Talismans).
Enter the village which seems to be completely deserted. People are barricaded inside their houses to avoid getting infected and are hostile to anyone approaching as indicated by the big white crosses on their doorsteps, including our two new orphans. Nobody wants to let Hugo and Amicia in, despite being the Lord’s children. Why?
As you continue exploring, there’s a collectible (Soap – Curiosity 3) to pick up before crossing the stone bridge. The collectible sits on a wooden table, in the backyard of a house left of the bridge.
Hugo told us he’s hungry. We should look for food then. An apple might do. Use the pictures below to get to the tree. Simply pick up an apple to give it to Hugo. This will unlock the chapter-specific trophy Feeding the Hungry.
As you progress through the village, you’ll hear some loud voices coming from a square. Some witch-hunting villagers have been burning women who are thought of being infested and don’t seem to be wanting to spare anybody from their cleansing. Time to run, again!
Escape the Villagers
The path here is linear and your goal throughout this entire section is to always run in the opposite direction of the villagers. Use the pictures below if you struggle to find out where you’re supposed to go. Keep running until you find shelter inside a house.
The house is, however, patrolled and in order to progress we need to distract a guard. Equip a stone and throw it on the pots on the wall. When the guard turns his back on you, walk up the stairs and exit from the door.
Time to run again! Use the pictures below if you need assistance on where to go. You’ll eventually get to a workshop.
To continue on we need to move a crate near the opening, so that Amicia and Hugo can climb over. In the upper section, we need to do the same, but this time we need to unhinge the crate that is hanging above us. Equip a stone to drop it, then push it below the opening and climb over to reach the exit.
Keep following the linear path and you’ll soon be told on by an elderly woman shouting “Outsiders!” from a window. Yep, you guessed it, time to run for it one more time. When you reach the small marker square, go to the ladder first to help Hugo up. Then, go through the opening on your left to meet up with Hugo who’s above you.
Equip your stone and bring the hanging crate down so that Hugo can in turn bring it down for you. Then, climb over. Be ready to sneak past some enemies.
Follow the pictures if you need help. For the first guard, throw a pot in the nearby section of the garden, so that you have freedom to move undetected.
As for the second guard, grab a pot from either the bench or the barrel and then hide in grass. Throw a pot in the nearby section of the garden, so that you can leave the area unspotted through the gate opposite you.
Time to run again! You’ll soon reach a house. The door that leads outside is locked though. To leave the house, help Hugo through the small window so that he can unlock the door for you.
However, it’s not over yet. Time to run again. You’ll reach what seems to be a dead end, but you’ll be saved by an old woman who welcomes you into her house.
Take the Clothes from the Chest on the Upper Floor
The old lady even gives us some dry clothes. Such generosity comes a long way! Walk upstairs and grab the clothes from the chest so that Amicia and Hugo can change into them. While you’re here, grab a collectible (Incense and Herbs – Curiosity 4).
Hugo still misses Beatrice and proposes to go find her. Amicia insists on doing what the old woman suggested, to go and find Laurentius. Hugo escapes downstairs.
Talk to the Old Lady
Walk downstairs to start a new cutscene during which the old lady, Clervie, and Amicia talk about what’s been happening in the village. She tells us that to find more about Laurentius we need to ask the monks at a nearby church, but no-one dares to go there anymore. Why? Clervie notices Amicia’s sling and invites us to use her workbench to upgrade it.
Take the Tools from near the Workbench
Approach the workbench to get the tools from the barrel.
Take the Piece of Leather from the Backyard
Now exit to the backyard and get the piece of leather on top of a stack in the left corner of the area.
Fix the Sling on the Workbench
Now head back inside and interact with the workbench to craft your first sling upgrade. Follow the on-screen tutorial to craft what’s needed to continue.
Talk to the Old Lady
Head back to the dining room to talk to Clervie once more. A new cutscene ensues during which Hugo is making a ruckus with a mallet. Hugo wants to see his mum and is growing impatient. Amicia decides to tell him the truth, however not so tactfully.
Hugo reacts harshly, thinking Amicia is lying to him. Hugo runs away in anger. Ugh, Hugo! Time to go after him.
Follow and Protect Hugo
Rush after Hugo by leaving through the door in the backyard.
Thankfully, the path is pretty linear. Run forward, climb the walls, and up the stairs.
As Amicia apologizes, Hugo is being harassed by a guard. Quickly equip your sling and kill the enemy with a stone.
Then, continue through the broken gate, run up the stairs, and finally climb up the wall.
Time to get rid of a bulky, armoured enemy. The goal here is to strip the guard off parts of his armour by slinging stones at him every time his mace gets stuck on the ground. In order to get his axe stuck, you need to time your dodging using when he swings at you. Then, target the armour with a stone until the reticule turns yellow. When it turns yellow, release. Now, rinse and repeat, making sure you always avoid his mace swinging. If it hits you, it’s game over. The last bit of armour that needs to come down is the helmet. At that point, you can one-shot kill him by head-shotting him.
When the fight is over, Hugo and Amicia are reunited once more and decide to enter the church to continue their perilous journey to the alchemist.
Once you enter the church, Chapter 2 will end.
This concludes Chapter 2 “The Strangers” in A Plague Tale: Innocence. Now Chapter 3 “Retribution” starts.

Does this guide include all of the crafting material locations to be able to get the sling & equipment trophies in one playthrough?

Two helpful tips for dealing with the soldier at the end. He alternates the downward swing that gets stuck in the ground with a wide swing. It was really hard to “Dodge” the wide swing. So, just try not to be there when he swings it. Second, Once he’s lost his armor, he runs faster, BUT he also tires and you can hit him and his helmet while he’s catching his breath.
