What is HDCP on PS5?
HDCP on PS5 means High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. It’s a copyright protection that blocks video recording devices from capturing your screen. You might wonder why a video game console has such a ‘feature’ in the first place. Because it’s legally required for Sony to have this setting. The issue isn’t the games (those can be captured using built-in PS5 capture anyway), it’s that without HDCP you could capture entire movies, online videos, streams, Netflix, music etc. with a capture card. This would create major copyright issues so manufacturers have to build in the HDCP protection.
By disabling this setting you can get your capture card to work for video game captures. But disabling HDCP will also block certain media apps from your PS5, such as Netflix. To make these streaming services work again you will have to enable HDCP. There are some ways around this, for example using an HDMI Splitter that strips out the HDCP Signal completely.

You can toggle it on and off from day 1 (so yes out of the box).
At the moment, it looks like disabling HDCP on PS5 runs old SDR games as HDR. Try it on Arkham Knight. PS5 runs it with added HDR and upscaled to 4k. Still 30fps, though.
