Chapter 11: Haunted is the 11th story mission in Final Fantasy 7 (VII) Remake. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Haunted Main Mission.
Haunted starts when you complete Rough Waters.
Area: Train Graveyard
Requirement: Complete Chapter 10: Rough Waters
Objectives:
- A Train Wreck
- Toward the Light
- Someone’s There
- Pass Through the Maintenance Facility
- All Aboard for the Graveyard
- Shadow in the Control Room
- Crane Game
- Head for the Exit
- Back Amongst Friends
- Blocked Road
- Clear the Way
A Train Wreck
In the first area there is a bench and a vending machine you can use, then head up the ladder following Tifa and Aerith.
Toward the Light
Tifa points out the maintenance facility you want to head to to get to Sector 7. Go down the ladder and proceed through the train, then instead of going North towards the objective, go East through the next train car. Go to the end of this area to find a purple chest, which contains a Mythril Rod.
Head back and follow the objective, climbing over the railcar to the next area. Here you will find a group of new enemies called Cripshay, which are weak to Ice magic.
Someone’s There
When they’re defeated head into the building. Follow the path out and then through the next train car. You’ll have a group of Wererats and Cripshays to deal with, then the girls will automatically climb the ladder up the next car. Instead of following them though walk into the train car leading East. Out the other side you can find a chest containing 1 gil, followed by some spooky messages.
Go back out and follows the girls up the ladder. In the next area deal with the group of Cripshays, then take the left to find an HP Up Materia.
Go back and continue towards the objective marker.
Pass Through the Maintenance Facility
Follow Aerith up towards the front of the room. Here you will have to fight an actual Ghost. These are weak to Fire magic but will cast different barrier magic depending on how you hit them. If they cast Shield to block Physical attacks hit them with Magic, and if they cast Reflect to block Magic hit them with Physical attacks.
After defeating the Ghost go back near the entrance to the area and defeat the group of Cripshays. The friendly Ghost then seemingly opens the door to the nearby train that you can then pass through.
All Aboard for the Graveyard
Go through the train and follow the path upstairs. Instead of going where the ghost tells you head to the East of the walkway then down the stairs.
Shadow in the Control Room
Defeat the Lesser Drake, then open the nearby chest to find a Gothic Bangle.
Go back stairs and into the room to the North to fight two more ghosts. Proceed out and across the walkway to the next room, where there will be another single Ghost. Go south into the room you didn’t enter earlier, then out the side to find a chest that contains 2 Mega-Potions.
Procced forward again along the marked path. Go down the stairs to the left, and instead of climbing the ladder go around beside the stairs to find a chest that contains 3 Echo Mist.
Climb the ladder, then follow the walkway across to the other side. Drop down, then head up the stairs. Before going up the second set of stairs there is a chest you can grab on the walkway that contains 1,000 gil. You can also go to the door on the South to enter a room with another chest that contains a Moogle Medal.
Go back and up the stairs to where you can find a bench, as well as a vending machine where you can buy disc 6. Let the Battles Begin!
Through the door into the control room, interact with the marked console.
Boss Fight: Ghoul
The new mechanic here is that Ghoul switches between a physical and ghostly form. Magic does very little against the physical form (Blue), and physical attacks do barely a scratch against the ghostly form (Red). On Easy/Normal difficulty you can deal 9999 damage by using an Elixir on him.
This is another boss weak to Fire, so the exact same set-up works as it did for Abzu. He starts off the battle by launching chairs at you, just block it to reduce the damage. If you have Echo Mists, it’s best to use them in this battle as he likes to casts Silence and if he’s in ghostly form and you have no Magic, you can’t lay a glove on him. Pelt him with spells in ghostly form and his Stagger bar will fill rapidly, and he’ll always be in physical form when Staggered so you can use your powerful abilities and hopefully a Limit Break.
Later in the fight, he’ll do a crafty attack where he grabs a party member and leaves them in Bound status. Don’t attack the Ghoul holding him! Instead, look to the opposite side of the room where you’ll see another Ghoul floating. This is actually the real Ghoul, so hit him with a few attacks and the ‘fake’ one will release your party member.
Luckily, you should have just picked up Aerith’s Mythril Rod which brings with it by far her best offensive ability, Ray of Judgement. This will build up an enemy’s Stagger % rapidly while they’re in that state, and it absolutely murders Ghoul’s health in this instance. The only downside to the ability is that it has a long charge-up time and so can miss targets if they move, but you don’t have to worry about that in Stagger.
As his health lowers, he will send up purple pillars of flame around the arena and teleport around, but these are easy to dodge and you can keep locked onto him and avoid the furniture he’s slamming around. Keep exploiting his weaknesses and you’ll persevere.
Hard Difficulty Tips: Your greatest challenge here is that this chapter has another boss to come at the end, who happens to be one of the tougher ones. So for this fight, you have to carefully manage your MP against a boss who can only be damaged by magic half the time. Thanks, developers!
This just means you have to play the patient game. Don’t ignore magic by any means; there are plenty of crates in the Train Graveyard to smash and hopefully get Mako shards, but don’t go too crazy as you’ll be very grateful for close to max MP for the next boss. Luckily, you can have Elemental-Fire on both Cloud and Tifa to hammer home your advantage when he is in his physical form. Use the downtime during his ghostly form to heal or hit him with just a couple of Firagas.
Crane Game
With the Ghoul defeated the power is restored, and you can go back by the first set of stairs you came up and operate the console to drop the train car back down.
Head for the Exit
Go back downstairs and you can now go through the train car to get to the exit of the building. After going through the dropped car go to the left first and defeat the two Lesser Drakes, then grab the chest containing 3 Echo Mist.
Continue through the next train car, then you can rest at the bench before proceeding outside.
Back Amongst Friends
Outside you can flip the switch nearby to start the train turntable moving. Once it does you’ll need to deal with a group of Wererats, Ghosts, and then Cripshays that come over into this area to attack you. After all the enemies are defeated you can go back inside and rest at the bench again if you want instead of using magic or items to heal.
Go across the turntable, and instead of going up the ladder to proceed, go around to the right. Here you can find a chest that contains a Hi-Potion. After grabbing it go up the nearby ladder.
Blocked Road
Climb into the train car and pull the switch to make the train move, then follow the path forward.
Clear the Way
Climb up into the next train car and pill the switch to make this one move too. After climbing down go to the right of it, where you can find a chest that contains 2 Mega-Potions.
Continue forward and you’ll have to defeat a Lesser and Cerulean Drake, then continue around the corner to the left to activate one more train car. You can then go back to the prior one that was moved and climb up a ladder on its side, then down on the other end of the walkways. On the other side there is another bench and vending machine you can use before proceeding.
Boss Fight: Eligor
Attention: Equip Steal Materia before this fight and use it on Eligor. You can steal a unique weapon for Aerith called Bladed Staff from this enemy which is not obtainable any other way. It’s only obtainable through stealing from this one boss!
If Hell House was the hardest boss yet, then Eligor is the most frustrating. He hits fairly hard and can induce a number of detrimental effects such as Silence and Sleep. Of these, Sleep is more annoying so equip your characters with as many Headbands as you have. Make sure one of your trio brings the Shiva summon along too.
The first thing you want to equip for this fight is the Steal Materia. In a nod to the original game, Eligor is the only enemy in FF7 Remake with a unique weapon you can steal; Aerith’s Bladed Staff. Whoever is your Thief should be using the Steal command whenever they have a charged ATB until you’re successful. You’ll also want Elemental-Ice on Cloud and make sure a couple of your team have both high level Ice and Wind Materia.
Eligor is one of the few bosses that is not immune to Poison and Stop. So be sure to have those two Spells equipped. Always refresh Poison on him (ideally you’ll have a MAX Poison Materia and use your strongest poison spell). The “Stop” Spell is useful when Eligor is flying in the air.
As mentioned previously, Eligor is really frustrating. He’s resistant to physical attacks anyway, but to make matters worse if you hit the wheels of his chariot then attacks will just bounce off. You have to hit his front or preferably the back, where his frontal AoE attack can’t hit you. Just to make things more annoying, he likes to take off and fly around the arena so Cloud and Tifa can’t hit him except with Magic.
When he’s on the ground, dodge his Piercing Gaze lasers and charge attacks. Use Cloud’s Punisher Mode supported by Tifa’s punches and Aerith’s Ice magic. When he takes to the sky, change roles and have Aerith attack him (since she’s the only ranged fighter) and have Cloud and Tifa on healing and Ice magic duties (Wind magic is a good alternative while he’s flying). Aim to build the Stagger gauge as quickly as possible to bring him down where he’s vulnerable to Cloud and Tifa, and hopefully you can bring Shiva into the fray and hit him with her ice-based attacks. If he stays flying around too long, he’ll use his Javelin Bolts attack which will rain spears down on you. To dodge these, hide behind the shipping container he dropped on the map.
During the latter stages of the fight, you’ll finally be able to attack his chariot’s wheels. Do so and you’ll quickly build the Stagger gauge and do some good damage. The key really is to get him down onto the ground as quickly as possible where all three of your characters can cause him trouble.
Hard Difficulty Tips: Just to make things even more annoying on Hard, Eligor now likes to cast Reflect so your Ice and Wind spells do nothing and you can’t use Cure to heal (he used reflect on Normal but only on himself, now he uses it on you too which blocks your Cure healing Materia). Reflect is the blue icon you get under your health bar when he starts flying, as long as that’s active your Cure spell won’t heal anyone. You can use Chakra or Pray Materia instead to heal since they count as abilities and not magic. The Poison and Stop Spells are your best friend here. Always refresh your strongest Poison Magic on him and cast Stop when he’s in the air. When he stands still in mid-air for a moment, use your strongest ice magic with all 3 characters to bring up his stagger bar quickly. Once staggered, he falls back to the ground and is less risky to deal with and the Reflect ailment will soon go away. Surviving this sequence is the toughest part of the fight.
It’s crucial you bring him down to the ground as quickly as possible otherwise his Javelins will wreck you. This isn’t a fun fight at all and just ends up becoming a test of patience, but if you’ve saved enough MP throughout the chapter you should be able to stagger him quickly with ice spells.
After defeating Eligor, continue on the main path to the end of the chapter.
This finishes Chapter 11: Haunted in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Now the mission Fight for Survival starts.

Eligor also casts reflect when fighting him in normal mode, not only hard.
james says
Heal the ghosts. if your healing materia is maxed out, curaga will one-shot the standard ghosts; takes a little more for the ghoul though.
Deathe2001 says
To replenish MP on hard after the Ghoul boss fight (although bit of a grind especially if you used alot of MP) The bench is still available to heal.
1. Sit on bench and heal.
2. Go downstairs by bench fight Cripshay’s
3. Run back to crane control (dont activate crane). Go downstairs on the opposite side to fight the lesser drake.
4. Head back to bench.
5. Goto Lesser drake -> Cripshays -> bench. Rinse and repeat
Fights usually restore MP albeit slowly. And sitting on the bench not only restores hp but resets distant enemy spawns.
Deathe2001 says
Edit:
You can use the crane. There are 2 lesser drake which you can also fight, that can respawn.
Also I suggest equipping a weapon with 50% mp regeneration boost. To makes things a lil smoother.
InsaneCaterpilla says
Even easier than this, save and restart the game. The crates will respawn and this is an even faster way of getting back your MP.

I m not sure whether it is intended or a bug but when Eligor went into his last phase the Reflect state was perma-stuck on me, meanwhile I discovered that the Prayer skill seems to heal the party even when reflected without healing Eligor. That was super neat. Also during the Javelin phase on the ground (last phase) you can cast Ray of Judgement from Aerith, then replenish, way for the next round and cast it again.

In addition:
I missed getting Shiva in but I tried Bahamut and Leviathan. Bahamut dealt around 5k and Leviathan around 3k. So if you have the choice then Bahamut seems to be the better one.
Denzel says
Eligor ist afflicted by stop which makes his fight quiet easier.
larry says
in hard mode it works only in the first part , then he gets the immunity
Labyrinth says
if you use raise on the ghoul boss, it automatically pressures him and puts him in his physical form at the same time.
Joseph says
The best way to replenish MP by far is to find some boxes/crates that when broken drop a mako shard. Immediately save and load. The boxes will be back and will again drop a mako shard as there static drops. You can rinse and repeat as many times as needed until your MP is max.
JC says
Thanks for this. Just to add a little if I may. I found that after the Ghoul the immediate boxes were light on mako shards (I tried 10x and got none), but I ran on a bit and entered a room which triggered Tifa to speak. The boxes in that room I’m so far 3 for 3.
Cody says
There’s also a Gothic bangle in the train area be for the ghoul it’s down some stairs. I’d include send a Pic of the map location if I could.
