In Mass Effect Andromeda you can find many Remnant Glyph Puzzles. This guide shows all their solutions and locations.
Solving 20 remnant puzzles in a single playthrough unlocks the trophy and achievement “Cryptographer”. Many of them are tied to quests. They are usually found at Alien Monoliths, also marked as Points of Interest on the world map. Remnant Puzzles are similar to Sudoku. First you must locate hidden glyphs that can only be seen through the scanner. Search the area around the puzzle carefully and scan the glyphs.
Now you must decrypt the Remnant Code by assigning the glyphs to a grid. No row or column can include repeats of the same glyph (only one glyph of each type per line). The same goes for each quadrant block (usually four quadrants divided by glowing lines). You can’t have two of the same glyphs in one quadrant.
Start with the lines that are only missing one glyph. This will immediately give you the last glyph for that line (whichever one is not in the line yet). Then move to the lines that are missing 2 glyphs. Piece by piece you’ll get closer to the correct combination. You can also use Remnant Decryption Keys to solve the puzzle immediately (items that are sometimes found in chests near the puzzles).
The puzzles inside remnant vaults are all missable. Once you complete a vault it will stay closed forever and there’s no way to get back in. This also means the trophy and achievement is missable.
Below are screenshots of the correct glyph combinations for each puzzle, structured by planets:
This guide is now complete! All glyph solutions have been added!
Planet: EOS
Main Mission: A Better Beginning (Quest Related)
The glyphs can be scanned on top of the towers. The puzzle is part of the main story and cannot be missed.
[Missable] Later into the quest, after activating all three monoliths, you will enter the EOS Remnant Vault (dungeon). This glyph puzzle is extremely well hidden and missable. If you don’t get it at the first chance it will be impossible to obtain later. It’s on the 2nd floor of the vault (see screenshot). Activate the hidden terminal to make a path to the opposite side. This leads to a secret area with a chest that requires a glyph combination to open. Scan the two glyphs on the walls near the chest. It rewards you with lots of powerful items.
Additional Task: Data Trail (also in Free Roam)
There are 4 scannable glyphs in the Remnant Vault during this task. They are used to open a chest that’s sealed by a glyph combination. You can also reach it in free roam without doing the task.
Additional Task: The Ghost of Promise (also in Free Roam)
Inside a remnant vault that can be accessed during this task you can find a chest locked by a glyph combination. It’s in a room with a Destroyer enemy (big robot) and one of the easiest puzzles to solve. It can also be reached in free roam without doing the task.
Planet: Voeld
Relationship Quest: Peebee Secret Project (Quest Related)
The glyph can be scanned behind the wall a few meters from the puzzle console (on the ground level, not on towers).
Heleus Assignment: Restoring a World (Quest Related)
In the quest “Restoring a World” you must solve 3 remnant puzzles scattered across Voeld. See their locations and solutions below. For the first one you must find 3 glyphs. Two on the monoliths above the console and one on a snowy mountain a little bit east.
For the second puzzle enter the frozen cave and scan 2 glyphs on top of a monolith and one in a nearby crevice.
Again you must enter a frozen cave with a puzzle and locate 3 glyphs. Two are outside, straight above the puzzle console. They are both on a 2 meter tall triangle-shaped stone sticking out the snow. The third is inside the frozen cave near the console, also on a stone sticking out the ground.
[Missable] We are still in the “Restoring a World” quest. After solving the last 3 puzzles you get a waypoint marker to the Voeld Remnant Vault. Inside the vault there’s an optional side room with a puzzle console. You don’t have to scan any glyphs for this one and it rewards you with 2 extra skill points. This puzzle is missable! After completing the vault there’s no way to get back in.
Additional Task: Subjugation (also in Free Roam)
Another Remnant Decryption Puzzle can be found while free roaming Voeld, at the end of a Remnant Vault that you can visit at any time. You go there during the “Subjugation” task but it’s possible to enter without any active quests (credit to DMI605 and Immortal_Joker for the location).
Planet: Havarl
Main Mission: Helping Havarl’s Scientists (Quest Related)
There are two glyphs to scan. One on a nearby monolith, the other on a stone to the right of to the remnant puzzle terminal.
Side Quest: A Dying Planet (Quest Related)
[Missable] The puzzle is in the Havarl remnant vault after activating the four lasers. There are 2 remnant consoles in the room. Ignore the one marked as the main objective and look for this puzzle in the back of the room. You don’t need to scan any glyphs for this one, just enter the solution. Once you leave the vault there’s no way to get back in, thus the puzzle is missable.
Havarl Free Roam / Open World
This one is really well hidden. There’s a remnant console in a cave, see screenshots below for the location and glyph puzzle solution. Activate the console and use your scanner to follow the yellow cables in the ground. It will lead to new consoles and eventually a gravity well. After using the well it puts you in front of the console with a glyph puzzle to solve. You must have completed the Harvarl Remnant vault to access the first console inside the cave.
Planet: Kadara
Side Quest: Healing Kadara’s Heart / The Outlaw Monolith (Quest Related)
There are three glyphs that must be scanned. Two at the bottom of the alien towers (on the side of the walls), the other one at the top of a tower.
[Missable] This is inside the Kadara remnant vault during “Healing Kadara’s Heart” in a hidden side room. You don’t have to scan any glyphs for this one, just enter the solution. There’s no way to enter the vault after completing it, so make sure you do the puzzle at the first chance.
Planet: Elaaden
Side Quest: Taming a Desert / Make This Dust Bowl Livable Monolith 2 (Quest Related)
Three glyphs can be scanned on top of the towers.
[Missable] Later into the “Taming a Desert” quest you enter the remnant vault of Elaaden. In the top right corner of the map there’s a remnant puzzle. No glyphs have to be scanned for this one. It unlocks 2 bonus skill points as a reward. Just like all the other remnant vault puzzles this will become unobtainable once you complete the vault.
Heleus Assignment: Investigate the Remnant Derelict (Quest Related)
During this quest you have to use a puzzle console to open a door (it’s a main objective, unmissable). One glyph can be scanned behind a pillar near the puzzle console. When using the scanner check for cables running from the console to the glyph.
Additional Task: Cache Flow (also in Free Roam)
There’s a chest locked by a glyph puzzle in the remnant vault of this quest. You can also reach it in free roam without doing the quest by visiting the vault in the north-east corner of the map behind some sand dunes.
Elaaden Free Roam
This puzzle can be found while free roaming Elaaden, inside a Remnant Vault directly west of the southern-most monolith (credit to Anakha for finding it).
Planet: H-047C
Heleus Assignment: The Remnant Tiller (Quest Related)
This remnant puzzle is a main objective at the very end of the quest. To unlock this quest you must first complete “From the Dust” which is triggered by investigating the quest marker in the orange dome near the Tempest landing zone (it gets marked with an exclamation point on the map once you go near it).
Location: Khi Tasira
Main Mission: The Journey to Meridian (Quest Related)
[Missable] There is only one glyph puzzle location on Khi Tasira during main mission The Journey to Meridian. Possibly the hardest puzzle in the game and it’s well hidden, easy to miss. At the start of the mission you must use a gravity well and then you can either take the path on the left or the right (there’s a main objective on either path). Take the path on the right to the objective “Garden Tower: Access the tower in the research sector”. Just before reaching the objective marker you can jump down the side of the bridge to a locked door that requires a glyph combination to open. Two reward boxes await you behind the door.
That’s all the glyph puzzle solution and locations in Mass Effect Andromeda.
darren says
i found the last vault on Voeld to be broken. i could scan the two on the surface but the one in the cave would not scan for me no matter how close i got to it. i even managed to jump onto the ice ledge beneath it, jump across on top of the pillar ledge and it still wouldn’t scan
Dave says
That is not the right one. it is actually right next to the other one outside (on the other side of the same object)
JamesH says
He said he scanned the two outside but couldn’t scan the one inside.
Sometimes the scanner is really fiddly and just won’t scan something it is pointing at. You almost have to aim off the object to get the yellow outline allowing you to do the scan.
Dave says
You’re missing a remnant console in elaaden in the vault.. it’s an optional one in the far upper right hand corner of the map.. it’s a 5×5 puzzle
Tony says
Did you find the solution?
Vandrew says
And does this mean there’s more than 20 in case you miss the one in Eos?
dave says
yes there are. i got the achievement without doing the south east Elaaden one or the H-O47c one
thanks for the help finding the missable ones guys. missed a few in my first run
Turtles4days says
I have the solution if anyone wants it.. Took me forever to solve
PowerPyx says
It’s in the guide now.
Brian says
I really need to know if there are any missable puzzles? I would like to get the Platinum trophy with only 1 playthrough. I’m waiting to play the game until I find out since this is the only missable trophy
PowerPyx says
The missable ones are marked in the guide now.
Misko says
How many puzzles are there in the game total???
Tony P says
You guys rock, thanks heaps. Without you I’d still be getting sun burnt.
wooz_N7 says
as of this writing, if I am reading your screenshots correct, you have listed 19 total puzzles, with 2 on Havarl.
I have found 3 puzzles on Havarl, and I got the 3rd puzzle after clearing the Havarl vault, so I can’t confirm if you can do it beforehand.
start by the 2nd forwarding point from the Tempest and looking towards the home base, look left and walk towards the remnant walls. There is a roekaar in a small cave trying to solve a remnant console lol, but this is the starting point. just solve the trail of remnant consoles and it will lead you to the 3rd puzzle on Havarl.
good luck
PowerPyx says
Found 20 glyph puzzle locations now and updated the guide. I think that’s all of them.
Ftwrthtx says
THANKS! Time to start another playthrough so i can get that trophy.
Brian says
I missed one of them so I’m wondering if I can just go back to my save file at the beginning of the eos vault and start playing from there since that was the first puzzle. Or do I need to start the entire game over? I’m just worried about it glitching and not awarding the trophy
PowerPyx says
Yes you can reload the save from first vault and play from there.
OTPYG says
Thanks for this guide,
Any chance of a map location screenshot of the Cache Flow location on Elaaden please? The side mission is a random pain in the butt.. Thanks 🙂
PowerPyx says
Added, thanks for asking!
A video is also linked at the start of the guide now. If anything is still unclear that should help 🙂
OTPYG says
Really appreciate it, thanks very much!!
Anakha says
There’s at least one more missing from your video. Found another remnant base on Elaaden, directly west of the southern-most monolith, right before a large pit in the SW corner of the map. Means there’s at least 21 now, so at least a little hope for anyone that has only missed 1.
PowerPyx says
Thank you! It has been added to the guide.
Kremost says
Could you also please add where the glyphs for this puzzle is located? I can’t for the life of me find them.
Kremost says
oh ffs… Like 2 seconds after that comment, I found the last glyph I was looking for… Sometimes I just hate my own stupidiy… Anyways thanks for the glyph solutions overall, they’ve saved me a bunch of time 🙂
Blunt says
Where is this puzzle supposed to be? I searched the whole vault there but could not find it. Only a glyph on a wall
kaathe says
btw in that thing- on the opposite site wills pawn a destroyer, if you then jump down there you will find a data core.
(on the other side where you scan the glyphs and solve the puzzle is just a 100 research “thingy”
Liam Dunn says
I got the achievement before I reached the last one. You missed a Remnant puzzle on Elaaden near the bottom. Can’t remember where it was exactly as it doesn’t show the icon on my map. It’s not quest related either.
Nightzoltan says
Thanks dude you´re a life saver, these puzzles where killing me! I personally hate them. Thanks Again for this guide.
Andrew says
Can you just use the override function if you have the right items? Or will that not count toward it?
Alig200 says
Override then screenshot the solution and fill it out again if you want to play it completely safe.
Immortal_Joker says
There is another glyph on Voeld when you do the Task: Subjugation.
PowerPyx says
Thanks, it has been added to the guide.
Swampy says
I count only 21 in your guide on here though , i even made a list on paper but it’s only 21. Where is No.22 in your guide?
PS: Great work, thanks 🙂
PowerPyx says
I count 22. Just scroll through it and count the solution pictures 🙂
jayd101 says
I found another remnant puzzle on Voeld by completing the Subjugation Quest Line. I think it begins as a task you need to go to the random placed Remnant pillars and destroy 4 or 5 Kett Devices and then that leads to a Vault filled with Kett. I might be wrong about the task bit I was doing them all over the place but it’s definitely called Subjugation.
Thanks for the guide!
jayd101 says
Sorry my bad didn’t see this was already posted.
Dune says
H047, there are two glyphs I scanned after completing the main quest. You can’t get them before hand, because they are behind a locked door. Any idea what they are for?
Thyago says
I only missed the one on Khi Tasira =(
I saw the door, jumped there, but don’t discovered how to open..
My sensors are crazy in this mission, everytime they vibrating indicating that there is something to find but I could not find anything, so I gave up on exploring this mission well, especially since it was already at the end of the game, I was very tense hahaha.
Thanks for the one well hidden in Havarl, missed only that in free roam.
Travis says
The door you’re supposed to open is not the first one you jump down to. That one always stays closed. After you jump to that one, turn around and jump down even further to a door on the other side of the gap. That’s the one you can open with a puzzle.
Randy says
You could have spent three more sentences on the havarl one since getting to the gravity well is the friggin puzzle.
Ardat-Yakshi23 says
I can’t find it ,just a blocked cave for me ,how to enter it ?
Travis says
You have to finish the Havarl vault first then the cave will open.
Viper says
I’m confused, the one on Havarl that is in a cave. I found the cave but there’s no console to be found anywhere. In fact the cave is blocked off by a bunch of boulders. Is there something else I’m supposed to do first?
PowerPyx says
I was able to get to it after doing the other puzzles on Havarl and completing the Remnant Vault.
Viper says
Yeah, that’s what it was. You HAVE to do the Remnant vault first.
hardmode says
Stupid remnat puzzles they have only one solution even when the hardest ones have many diferent combinations and cant even be overrided, dick move from the devs… l mean where is the fun if you have to spend hours until you get the solution those dumb asses programed or having to come here like a fucking retard in search for the correct answer?
NICKtheNINJA1 says
Lol, if only you weren’t so dumb you could figure it out on your own.
Seiferslash says
@hardmode The puzzles aren’t that hard. Even the 5×5 ones only take 5-10 minutes or so. Are you sure you’re following the rules to solve them? Can’t use the same glyphs in a horizontal or vertical row, and the same rule applies for each outlined section.
Finding the puzzles is the hard part. Thanks Powerpyx for all your efforts here. Cheers!
coroner says
You do not need to get all in a single playthrough. I missed a few at the start. Played NG+. When I got the missed one on Elaaden, the trophy popped, without finishing ones on H-047 and Khi Tasira.
TheRightBower says
Is this true? I just finished the game and only have 16.
If I could start NG+ and get 4 more…the cheevo should pop?
ICEMAN BROCK says
Cheers bud these puzzles really suck just can’t do em lol thanks for making em all easy to find aswell ??
Blunt says
Nevermind, found it at last
Chris says
Fantastic guide! I only had 13 puzzles solved prior to the Journey to Meridian mission. Using the guide I was able to find the 5 hidden vaults and complete the puzzles. The final remaining puzzle I had access to was in the Journey to Meridian mission. I would never have known about the 5 hidden vaults I was missing nor would have I found the hidden door in the Journey to Meridian mission if it wasn’t for your exceptional guide.
kokirielf says
The Subjugation mission is on Voeld not Elaaden
Cauzur says
Thank you for the help.
