In Pokemon Sword & Shield you can unlock an upgrade to your Rotom Bike, called the Water Rotom Bike. It allows you to surf on water which opens up many new places for you. Just like the default Rotom Bike, the water variant is also an automatic (unmissable) story unlock.
How to get Water Bike Upgrade:
- On Route 9 you will automatically run into the same man again that gave you the first Bike on Route 5. He is being attacked by Team Yell and you must defeat these hooligans.
- As a reward, the man gives you the Water Bike Upgrade!
- This is an automatic story unlock and cannot be missed.
Don’t worry about this at all, just know you’ll get it automatically during Route 9.
How to use Water Bike:
Just like with the main bike you can press the + button to spawn the bike instantly. Except now you can also drive (surf) on water. Easily one of the most useful upgrades in the game and now you can explore much more of the map. Going back to old routes and wild areas is also well worth it, as you can find previously unreachable places.

You need to go to the restaurant in circhester for a cutscene and battle hop. After that you can go to route 9
So I went to route 9 and when I got there they only people there are the team tell grunts and not the old man do I need to do anything to get him to appear.
After you beat the Circhester Gym he’ll be there (normal story progression path, unmissable because you need to take Route 9 after beating the gym).
He’s still not there after we beat the dude in the gym team yell are the only ones there

I defeated team grunt and spoke to the man, got the bike, but when I went to the water the bi very doesn’t work.
I have the same problem. I beat the gym. I got the store moving but no water bike

got the water wheels, go a bunch of pokemon and the game glitched and now i dont have my water pokemon or wheels and the guy you get them from isnt there any more.
